French Quarter bed and breakfast description

Visitors to New Orleans truly enjoy the experience of staying in an historic property. Our French Creole cottage was built in 1830 by the original owner, Antoine Alciatore, remembered by locals and tourists alike for his world renowned Antoine’s Restaurant.

This suite has a private bath and is furnished with a charming eclectic mix of antiques and collectables. “Lagniappe” meaning a little something extra, is what you will experience at our home, from the inviting Jacuzzi on the lovely deck surrounded by sub tropical gardens, all recently added by us your enthusiastic hosts.

Guests may relax in our French Quarter area retreat or stroll to see Jackson Square’s street performers and artists. Famous restaurants, jazz clubs, antique shops, galleries and much more are just a few blocks away. A scenic riverfront streetcar ride will take you to the convention center and the Riverwalk Shopping Mall. Magazine Street, popular for its antique stores is just a short ride away.

We are both licensed tour guides and we love to share our knowledge of New Orleans with our guest. Don is also a native of New Orleans. We serve a continental breakfast each morning (at your leisure) in the formal dining room or on the outside patio deck. Snacks are displayed all day long.

Complimentary high speed wireless internet is throughout our home. Staying in our private home is an experience which is totally family oriented. You may keep your room as neat as you wish, there is no daily housekeeping, always extra towels upon request. Rooms are for registered guests only.

We invite families with children that cannot be left alone to stay with us. Our pets are three adorable dachshunds and many birds. Our smoking guests are invited to do so in our outside areas.

PLEASE CONTACT US FOR DETAILS TO RENT ONE OF OUR OTHER 4 SUITES/ROOMS.

The Maison de Lagniappe is all that has been described by the owners Don & Harry and so much more. I surprised my husband with a trip to New Orleans for the French Quarter Festival in April but the stay at this B&B allowed us to actually experience New Orleans. The B&B is well preserved and decorated with the charm of a home from the 1800's, with water features, antiques and relics of the day. The pictures posted are just a taste of the grand home we had the pleasure to residing in. I say residing, because our hosts Don & Harry truly made us feel at home. Allowing us to take advantage of the multi-level dwelling at all hours of our comings and goings. A hot breakfast awaited us each morning, with a variety of choices of coffees and teas and fixings, even at noon (I'm a late riser). While each afternoon, evening and night there were an assortment of snacks and drinks. We enjoyed our meals on the outside second story deck where Don or Harry would join us and the other lodgers with conversations of years past and stories of their beloved New Orleans. The proximity of Maison de Lagniappe to the French Quarter could not be better; two blocks from Bourbon Street and one block off Esplanade. Close enough to walk to the events, but far enough not to hear them once you reach the B&B. However the best part of the experience was Don & Harry who are full fledged tour guides! Therefore any questions we had were thoroughly answered, all recommendations of activities and eateries were excellent and accompanied by some history or a story. Words cannot convey the warmth my husband and I experienced while staying at Maison de Lagniappe with Don & Harry, but hopefully our intention of going back will give you an indication.

We celebrated our first anniversary with a trip to NOLA and this place was the cherry on top. Don and Harry made us feel just like family. From the beautiful room with the most comfortable bed to the baked goodies everyday, it was the perfect place to stay. Located in the back of the quarter close enough to walk to everything, but away from all the loud bars and noise-makers. It was perfect in every way.

What can we say- a lovely "home away from home"! Excellent location with wonderful, helpful hosts and a perfect location for walking to just about everything you could want in NOLA! Harry's fresh baking was much appreciated every morning and Don's information about all things New Orleans made our stay very special. We will return soon we hope!

Perfect accommodations for a reunion of old friends. Outside seating area on the porch to congregate and enjoy coffee and chatting. Great location - easy to walk to Bourbon Street. Don and Harry are wonderful hosts and we all enjoyed Maison de Lagniappe. I do regret missing the rehearsal of "Swan Lake" with the tu-tu's and the four-four's....

After booking a cruise from New Orleans, my wife & I wanted a nice place to stay for a couple days to celebrate our Valentine's Day anniversary upon our return. Hotel rates were sky high due to the NBA All-Star Game, so what were we to do? Thanks to VRBO, we discovered a lovely place called Maison de Lagniappe. We couldn't have made a more wonderful choice! Don and Harry are such gracious hosts, assisted by the sweet furbaby girls Varucca, Friede, and Lillie (she loves belly rubs, btw!) Inside, you'll think you're in an antique shop with all the charming pieces throughout; our bed actually pre-dated the Civil War. You can relax in the beautiful backyard garden, which was quite green for mid-February. The hot tub made for a perfect place to wind down after our walks in and around the French Quarter. An upstairs porch is great for enjoying some quiet time or visiting with fellow travelers. Then, there's the kitchen. Continental breakfast both mornings was tasty. Homemade biscuits, Don's Mexican quiche, and Harry's biscotti were our favorites. You can enjoy snacks throughout the day and evening, too. In addition, Don and Harry are happy to answer any questions you may have on things to see and do in the Big Easy. We can't wait to make a return trip to New Orleans, and when we do, Maison de Lagniappe will be our home away from home!

My husband and I were in the right place at Maison de Lagniappe. Don & Harry's warm welcome and assistance were the perfect match for an unforgettable stay. The Garden Room had just the right comforts, privacy and security—the bed was super comfy. I’m a no-frills kind of gal, but came to appreciate being able to sit in the garden and continually discover new little wonders within. We were able to walk to many venues (French Quarter, Canal Street, French Market, and more) or catch a bus or tram within blocks of this B&B. We especially appreciated the recommendation of Tours by Isabelle. We'll be sure to book with Harry & Don on our next trip.

This was our second stay with Harry & Don. Our friends were staying down the street in another b&b and they were jealous because we were sleeping in luxury and they were on futons & air mattresses!! Harry would not have any guest of his sleep like that ! Harry will tell you the best spots to eat and things to see! It was so nice I didn't want to go home. I'm home sick already !!! Can't wait to go back !:) see you soon Harry & Don

What can I say about Don & Harry that hasn't already been said in every review.... Some of the most genuine, kind, thoughtful, magnanimous and most of all... REAL people you will ever have the pleasure of meeting. The second you set foot in their home, you take a deep breath and know you made the right choice. You feel as though you are at Grandma's house on vacation. Beautiful antiques adorn every space, the smell of Harry baking sweet treats fills the air and laughter is heard often. Don & Harry seem to attract like-minded people so the house is filled with guests that are just as welcoming and sweet as they are. We ate, we drank, we snuggled with the dogs. Lilly Dog would come downstairs and hangout on our couch every morning. We fell in love with all of it... the neighborhood, the house... everything was perfect! The pictures do not do this wonderful place justice. Every room is FAR bigger than they appear online. We rented the downstairs with the whirlpool tub. It was so big we had to ask around to see if that huge space was really all for just us! We will be back! I have told all my friends, family and anyone that will listen about Don & Harry!

My husband and I spent our honeymoon with Don and Harry and their three little ladies (the resident dachshunds) over Halloween. Everything was just wonderful - the bed was super comfy, the collection of antiques is unparalleled, and Harry's homemade treats account for at least 3 of the 7 pounds I gained in NOLA (the rest being attributed to Eating My Weight In Oysters, and Never Drink the Green Drink). We spent an evening on the deck in the back of the home with some other guests, talking and having a few beers, and the overall tenor of the Maison de Lagniappe lends itself so well to this air casual comfort (Don told us to make ourselves at home so I kept changing the water in the dogs' dish - I have 3 cats; this is what I do at home). Their home is walkable to the main drag on Bourbon Street, Frenchman Street, and some places in the Marigny you don't want to miss. If you can, try to catch Don and/or Harry for a chat - they're wonderful people and their stories are treasures unto themselves. And at the end of the day, it's Don and Harry that have created in their home this amazing, relaxing, comfortable space in which you simultaneously feel like an honored guest and part of the family, and it's that very reason that you should not hesitate to stay with them at the Maison de Lagniappe.
