Belmont Townhouse, Coolest Part of Coolest City in USA
Year Purchased: 2007
Why the Owner Chose Hawthorne
Portland is unique in many ways, it has a vibrant arts community, very green, progressive and close to the great outdoors. The Columbia Gorge is just on the edge of town and has great hiking and sight-seeing. This is one of the nicest neighborhoods in the City and a car is not required as there is so much within walking distance.

This was our second stay at the Belmont Townhouse. We travel with our children and travel on a budget, cooking our own meals. The kitchens marble counters and gas range and oven make that task easy. As for location, the townhouse has excellent public transportation access-a reason why we keep coming back. Busses are about every 15 minutes, any day. It is only minutes to downtown Portland on bus 15. There is also excellent access to Hollywood TC (red and blue line max) via bus 75. This means a quick bus trip to Trader Joes and the Grocery Outlet. Zupans (though pricey) is one block away for other items a person may need. The sunnyside neighborhood is very fun and funky, we enjoy strolling about looking at the gardens and yard decor. Laurelhurst Park is a few blocks North of the townshouse. This large park has many paved paths, lovely trees and open areas, and a recently renovated pond. We hope to be back again soon.

Our families needed a place to stay for three nights and didn't want to be separated into 3 hotel rooms. This very lovely town home was perfect for our needs! It is much more convenient than checking into a hotel and competitively priced! It is fully furnished with comfortable beds, living and dining areas with internet, televisions & accessories, a wonderful bookcase filled with great books from all around the world and has a fully equipped kitchen. It was very clean and inviting. There is a wonderful grocery store a few blocks away with great coffee and bakery and several fun restaurants. It is in a great location with easy parking, quiet at night and cozy for evening gatherings. We love to be able to wake up and prepare breakfast at our leisure and relax with the family. The owner is very amiable, a great host and, because he is a world traveler, he is very informative about the Portland area and most anywhere else. I very rarely bother with reviews but we all so enjoyed this town home, especially over a stay at any hotel, that we decided that we would recommend this town home to anyone and we would certainly stay here again should we return to Portland. Our family in Portland plans to recommend it to anyone visiting them.

This was an absolutely PERFECT place to stay in Portland. (Pictures DO NOT do this property justice, it was beautiful, and extremely clean and organized!) We were all so pleased of the location of this townhome, especially since it was steps away from the grocery store, an incredible grocery store..Zupans : ). We also enjoyed being able to walk to so many shops, and really explore the east side of the city. This was the perfect home to be able to entertain family we had coming into town for the wedding..even last minute guests...a quick run to Zupans..we could handle all the entertaining! The home was beautifully decorated, and we had everything we needed in the kitchen, and enjoyed the grill on the deck at least twice! Restaurants and bars within steps, if needed. A beautiful park in walking distance from rental..(Laurel Hurst park?) absolutely lovely. We are looking forward to renting this townhome again when we visit our son and daughter-in-law in the future..terrific experience! I especially appreciated the contact with the owner, who was extremely helpful with all my questions, concerns, and kept in contact via email throughout our homeaway.com experience..Thank you, could not have gone any smoother : )!

We really like VRBO & think that accurate reviews help all of us to decide whether a facility will best meet our needs. If it were possible, we would rate the Belmont Townhouse 3 1/2 stars. Bottom line: This is in a great location, but would probably not rent here in the future. Pro’s: Location: Close to shopping, transportation; safe & quiet neighborhood & development Private: 3 beds w/2 separate baths plus 1/2 bath on living level Washer/dryer in unit (see below) Air conditioning (important in summer/fall when temps sometimes hit 90+ in Portland) 2 small outdoor sitting areas Propane BBQ Gas stove Open & nicely decorated Reasonable cost TV/DVD player in 1 bedroom + in living room Responsive & informative owner prior to arrival Con’s Double beds - would have preferred queen or king. We did know this ahead of time, however. Intermittent WiFi - connection sporadic Dishwasher broken 1 stove burner not working Minimal cable channels - Lack of attention/cleanliness - we expect at least the cleanliness of a hotel. Found notes concerning many of these same issues left by previous groups: Wet laundry in washer & dryer discovered upon arrival, requiring us to wash/dry/fold/put away laundry from previous tenants. Plus dryer was very inefficient, requiring lengthy drying times Moldy food in refrig. Unit walls need washing and/or painting Clumps of hair on bathroom floor Sheets/blankets smelled (perhaps due to them not having been dried promptly during previous occupancies?) Personal items, money in various drawers - forgotten? Owner’s? Insufficient toilet paper for the week; no Kleenex or paper towels in unit. No unused bar soap in bathrooms - Since we planned to cook & eat in the unit most days, we requested an inventory of items in unit prior to arrival. Was assured there was plenty of everything; however, dinnerware, silverware, pots & pans were minimal. - Major temperature discrepancy between lowest floor & both top floors (an issue if all bedrooms were occupied) - Limited on street parking especially in evening - had to occasionally park 1+ blocks away, potential security issue

This place was everything we had hoped for and more. The accommodation feels spacious, light, comfortable, clean, and new. It's true that you needn't even keep groceries in the house--the glorious food store just steps away has everything anyone could want. We didn't have a car and never missed one. This was a great place to stay with our two kids while we got to know Portland--now we love the city, the neighborhood, and Steve's townhouse. We'll certainly be back.

Steve's home was the perfect place to kick back and enjoy Portland as a real Oregonian. The spacious townhome was a convenient 15 minute bus or 10-minute car ride from downtown, in an awesome neighborhood with eclectic Belmont and Hawthorne communities right around the corner. Residential yet a block away from groceries, cafes, and hookah bars. All the comforts of home in a beautiful setting, and at an excellent price. I definitely hope to return. Thanks Steve for sharing your place!

Steve's house was the perfect spot for our Portland stay. It was exceptionally clean, well decorated, quiet, and had all the kitchen tools we needed. Very comfortable couch and living room, and the house stayed nice and cool during our visit when the temps hit 100! Grocery store right next door and lots of restaurants and shops (including Powell's) within walking distance. Steve was a wonderful host and we even had the pleasure of meeting him when we arrived. The only surprise was that the beds were full size, not queen, but aside from that this one of the nicest rentals we've stayed in. Steve, thanks again for such a wonderful place to stay in Portland!

Our family of four stayed at this townhouse for 6 nights. It is extremely accessible to all of Portland and in a very safe neighborhood. My husband and I walked every morning around Laurelhurst Park and the surrounding area. Just a block away is a commercial area where you can dine, get coffee or grocery shop - although the grocery store is quite expensive and I would recommend the Fred Meyer about 1 mile away. The townhouse had all the basic necessities and with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths we all had our own space.

My wife and I have been to Portland 4 times in the last 2 years, each visit has been very pleasant. We have stayed on Burnside both east and west and a couple of times downtown close to Powells books. This was our first stay on Belmont St, not only was the street one of the most interesting but the townhouse was perfect for our stay. We were 2 couples and the house is a very comfortable size, the bedrooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable. There is a very vibrant street scene with a beautfiull old fashioned cinema and some great stores and cafes.I do recommend both the street and the townhouse to any one planning to visit Portland
