Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2008

I am a retired dentist and my wife is a retired museum director. We both love old houses and local art. This property reflects those interests.

Why the Owner Chose Abingdon

Abingdon is a beautiful small town in Virginia's highlands. It has a large historic district with many restored 19th century homes and commerical structures. My wife and I live in the district and have restored several homes in it. When this adorable Queen Anne cottage came on the market 3 years ago, we could not resist. We have basically left the cottage as it was when built in 1906, but added modern amenities. We look forward to moving in it ourselves when we "downsize" at some point in the future.

The Unique Benefits of this Cottage

Located on the eastern edge of Abingdon's historic district, Summers Cottage is within easy walking distance of six restaurants, the Barter Theatre, the Virginia Creeper Trail (biking and walking)and other local attractions. One can take in Abingdon's historic district and Southwest Virgina's scenic beauty while staying in a home, and enjoying a small town, but cosmpolitan, atmosphere.

Another wonderful stay!

Date of Stay: 10/18/11 Review Submitted: 10/23/11

This cottage has become an annual home away from home for my wife and I, and our toddler. We take an annual visit to Abingdon each October and the cottage has simply become an integral part of our stay. So charming and well decorated it welcomes you into it's embrace. We love the layout of the place and having the opportunity to stroll up to Zazzy'z for breakfast each morning. The historic section of town has such a wonderful feel to it and you get to be a part of that here in the cottage. The owner is very friendly and accomodating, and a real joy to chat with over at the coffee shop. We certainly look forward to returning next year. Highly recommended!

Peaceful Weekend

We came up to be near my cousin's wedding and enjoy our anniversary. So quiet in the cottage! The layout takes some getting used to, but the soft queen bed was totally worth it. Thank you so much!

Amazing vacation cottage in the heart of Abingdon

Guest: CM&A (Kings Mountain, NC)
Date of Stay: 10/21/10 Review Submitted: 10/27/10

My wife and I just spent four nights here with our 20 month old daughter. I can't say enough nice things about the place and the owners. Beautifully furnished and decorated it rapidly became a wonderful part of our vacationing experience. It was so nice getting up in the mornings and walking down to the coffee shop for breakfast and then strolling around downtown. The porch was even nicely decorated for the Fall. The queen bed was extremely comfortable and the kitchen fully equipped. It honestly felt like home. We would certainly stay here again and hope to do so in the future.
