This cottage is in a great location in downtown Abington! It has an old charm to it with all hardwood floors and the older doors and antiques but with great upgrades in the kitchen and comfortable beds. Nice artwork to look at throughout the house. Everything was very clean with plenty of extra towels and linens. I would recommend this rental to anyone who is looking for a more space and a relaxing atmosphere after their days visiting Abington and the nearby areas like Damascus (for riding the Creeper Trail!), Mt. Rogers and Grayson Highlands, etc. We had a great time!!

My party of 3 visited Abingdon to run the Creeper Trail Marathon. The cottage was a perfect place to stay. We had time to attend a play at the Barter Theatre, eat at a fine dining restaurant and run the race. Very convenient, nicely furnished, clean and very cozy! I would highly recommend it!

This cottage has become an annual home away from home for my wife and I, and our toddler. We take an annual visit to Abingdon each October and the cottage has simply become an integral part of our stay. So charming and well decorated it welcomes you into it's embrace. We love the layout of the place and having the opportunity to stroll up to Zazzy'z for breakfast each morning. The historic section of town has such a wonderful feel to it and you get to be a part of that here in the cottage. The owner is very friendly and accomodating, and a real joy to chat with over at the coffee shop. We certainly look forward to returning next year. Highly recommended!

We came up to be near my cousin's wedding and enjoy our anniversary. So quiet in the cottage! The layout takes some getting used to, but the soft queen bed was totally worth it. Thank you so much!

My wife and I just spent four nights here with our 20 month old daughter. I can't say enough nice things about the place and the owners. Beautifully furnished and decorated it rapidly became a wonderful part of our vacationing experience. It was so nice getting up in the mornings and walking down to the coffee shop for breakfast and then strolling around downtown. The porch was even nicely decorated for the Fall. The queen bed was extremely comfortable and the kitchen fully equipped. It honestly felt like home. We would certainly stay here again and hope to do so in the future.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2008

About the owner: I am a retired dentist and currently the Director of the College for Older Adults at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center. My wife is a retired museum director and the author of two books on the material culture of our region - 'Great Road Style' (University of Virginia Press) and 'Back Country Makers' (University of Tennessee Press). We both love old houses and local art. This property reflects those interests.

                      Why the Owner Chose Abingdon:
Abingdon is a beautiful small town in Virginia's highlands. It has a large historic district with many restored 19th century homes and commerical structures. My wife and I live in the district and have restored several homes in it. When this adorable Queen Anne cottage came on the market 3 years ago, we could not resist. We have basically left the cottage as it was when built in 1906, but added modern amenities. We look forward to moving in it ourselves when we 'downsize' at some point in the future.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Located on the eastern edge of Abingdon's historic district, Summers Cottage is within easy walking distance of six restaurants, the Barter Theatre, the Virginia Creeper Trail (biking and walking)and other local attractions. One can take in Abingdon's historic district and Southwest Virgina's scenic beauty while staying in a home, and enjoying a small town, but cosmopolitan, atmosphere.
