Location: Kenwood, Sonoma County, Wine Country, California, USA (1/4 mile to St Francis Winery. Golf - On 10th Fairway)

Keywords:  View from kitchen, den, living room, master br and patio is of fairway and mountains. Single story, immaculate, private, quiet as a pin drop, great reviews, people return year after year.

The property is located directly on the 10th fairway of the Oakmont Village Valley Lakes Course (there are two public courses in Oakmont, our guests may use both). The views from the kitchen, breakfast nook, living room and master bedroom all look out on the fairway and have a mountain backdrop. Seldom would you look out and not see a doe with her fawns walking by or stretched out next to the house or just below the master bedroom window. Sometime 6-8 deer at a time. Rabbits, birds (geese, ducks, wild turkeys, woodpeckers, robins) are usually there also. Even a little red fox stops by and puts his nose on the breakfast nook window. Bring your camera.

The home sleeps four in two separate bedrooms. The master bedroom is large and features a queen-sized bed. If you are a book lover, there are shelves of books for guests along one of the walls. It has a private bath with a shower. The view from this room is of the fairway. You can watch deer go by while lying in bed, plus, there is a mountain view.

The second bedroom has a king-sized bed. The bathroom for that bedroom is steps away in the hallway. The window in this room provides nice lighting but does not look out onto the golf course.

The living room has a pullout sofa bed that can sleep two, and also has book shelves where guests may help themselves to books. The dining room table seats six. There is a flat screen TV in the living room.

There is an outdoor patio fronting the golf course with a table for dining for four. The BBQ cooker is located on the patio.

Included is a full kitchen with oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator and a plethora of plates and silverware, and plenty of pots and pans. The view from the kitchen also includes the golf course.

In the breakfast nook area, there is a hard wired computer with a 19" monitor; the connection is Broadband Internet. Printer included. Guests may connect their own laptop to the high speed Internet connection, or connect to WiFi also.

In the living room, a 47" flat screen HD TV with extensive channels available.

A one-car garage with access into the house from the garage is included. There is room to also park in one space in the driveway.

The key attraction to this one-story home is there are no adjoining walls to other units. This is a stand-alone, single-story (no steps to climb), condo and of course, there is no one above you either. It's pin-drop quiet and peaceful.

It is in an age 55+ community so no children are allowed. One of the renters needs to be at least 55 years-old. The owners, who stay there often, insist on absolutely no smoking inside or outside the property as one is terribly allergic to cigarette smoke.

Loud parties are forbidden. This is a quiet, peaceful, relaxing place.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2006

We are Tom and Greta. Greta is a retired special education teacher of 31 years. Tom is an expert on dating after 50 (Today Show and Good Morning America) and has authored several books on the topic. He is also a syndicated newspaper columnist, and has owned Tutor and Spunky's Deli in Dana Point, California, for 23 years. We have owned property for 33 years in the village of Oakmont. In 2006, we purchased this home because of its golf course location and while it is a condo, it's just like a stand alone house because there are no adjoining walls. We have elected to make our home a vacation rental because we want time to be able to come here and stay ourselves, which we do several times a year. Do we love it? You bet.

Why the Owner Chose Kenwood

The property is in the heart of the Valley of the Moon, with the St Francis Vineyard (the bell tower chimes on the hour) less than a mile away. This ideal location is located on the 10th fairway of the Oakmont Village Valley Lakes Golf Course (a 100-yard walk to the starter's shack--public course). The Oakmont deli and market is just a five minute drive away. It's very quiet and private. Perhaps the biggest reason we love our home: the parade of deer, rabbits, wild turkeys, geese and birds directly in front of the property. Occasionally, a red fox puts his nose on the breakfast nook window. Beyond the direct view of the fairway, the mountains are in the background. Very peaceful. The property is 8 miles east of Santa Rosa via US 12 and about 18 miles west of the town of Sonoma.

The Unique Benefits of this Condo

For golfers, the pro shop/starters shack for the front and back nines of this executive course is 100 yards away. We love the nearby vineyards--20 of them within a 10-minute drive, including Ledson (5 minutes), St Francis (3 minutes) and Kenwood, Kunde, Chateau St. Jean, Landmark, and Blackstone. Sonoma Co. has more than 240 wineries, all within an hour's drive. And then there are the wonderful restaurants nearby, including Kenwood, where the food is great and celebrities can sometimes be seen. We saw Tommy Smothers at the restaurant not long ago. But, it's the peace, quiet and beauty of the area that caps it off.

In the unit, Wi-Fi as well as high speed cable are present. TV includes an HD 47" Flat Screen.

Perfect Location for Touring both Napa.Sonoma Wine Country

My husband and I spent the month of August and were very happy with our accomodations. The animals in the back yard described were a delight to view from the living room and patio area. The home was exceptionaly clean and a good size for 2 bedrooms. Very very quiet which I loved. The owner was a dellight to work with and is one of the reasons I decided to rent his home. The location was great because we were able to tour all of Napa and the Sonoma area plus was only 1 hour drive from San Francisco. Restaurants nearby in Glen Ellen were wonderful and the home is close to many wineries. Would recommend very much.

Absolutely a perfect house for a vacation in the Wine Country. This home has all the modern conveniences to make your stay perfect. We just stayed for 8 beautiful days in late September. The home is a great place for one or two couples. The location is perfect for a wine & food vacation as the house is located just off highway 12, Sonoma is 25 min. away, Napa is 55 min, Healdsburg is 40 min, and Bodega Bay is only 1 hour. For the Golfer, the greens are very well kept and the whole area is very nice. My wife and I can recommend this home for a laid back vacation in the Wine Country with out any problems.

Loved this place!

The listing and photos were accurate, it was actually more spacious than expected. The home was fully stocked and very clean. We did not have to supply anything except our own personal necessities.... local wines, cheese, fruit and bread :) I would definately recommend this property. It is in a beautiful, peaceful setting centrally located to allow easy day trips to surrounding areas. All just about a 1 hour drive away, we visited Healsburg, Jenner, SF city. So many more places to visit, we will have to go back, and we will definately stay here.

We were the first lucky ones to rent this place!

Over Thanksgiving weekend in 2009, my extended family (ages 3 to 66) stayed here and found the home to be in excellent condition -- very clean and comfortable. The owner is easy to work with and kind. His attention to detail made the whole transaction understandable and easy to employ. The beds were all comfortable, as was the furniture in the living room. The kitchen was fully stocked with necessary equipment and dishes to satisfy our needs, even for a Thanksgiving meal. There's a great Mexican restaurant right near the complex that we enjoyed our first night of the stay. We look forward to returning there, as our daughter and family (including the three-year-old grandchild) live in Santa Rosa.

Cozy in the Wine Country

Guest: Pam (San Diego )
Date of Stay: 10/09/09 Review Submitted: 06/17/10

We spent five wonderful get-away days in this lovely house on the golf course last fall. I fell in love with the view and the location. The house had all the amenities we expected: clean rooms and comfortable beds, a well equipped kitchen, table on the patio for viewing sunsets, and a computer with access to the internet. The owners were most helpful in suggesting good restaurants nearby. Each morning we walked three miles along the golf course up to the Oakmont Inn, seeing many deer, rabbits, and egrets along the way. This is an ideal location for golfers with two courses at your doorstep. We enjoyed visiting the nearby St. Francis Winery tasting room and touring the Kunde Winery caves. There are many wineries in this area and a short drive will take you to top-rated restaurants in Kenwood (Kenwood Restaurant), Sonoma (Della Santina’s), and Napa (Don Giovanni). Healdsburg is a short 20 minute drive - along with the boutiques on the square, there is Charlie Palmer’s Dry Creek Kitchen as well as the Oakville Grocery. One special day we drove the Westside Road Wine Trail through the Russian River Valley. We will return soon to this wonderful centrally-located cozy house for more touring through the Wine Country.

Golf..Relaxation..and Wine Country

Guest: Ted and Mary Kay Bowersox (San Juan Capistrano CA, USA)
Date of Stay: 04/28/10 Review Submitted: 05/20/10

Mary Kay and I spent a fantastic week at Tom and Greta's place. We would definitely recommend their home for it's relaxed feel and close proximity to the fantastic Sonoma and Napa wine country. We ventured to the beautiful St. Frances and Chateau St. Jean wineries just down the road. I didn't get to play a round of golf but we went to the other course and had a very nice lunch and Mary Kay sat on the patio while I hit a bucket of balls. We also went to the nice town of Santa Rosa, Sebastapol and over to the ocean at Bodega Bay. If you want a nice vacation in a great homey setting with a golf course view... this is the place !!

Quiet and Cozy

Guest: Happy Visitor (Tulsa, OK)
Date of Stay: 03/15/10 Review Submitted: 05/14/10

What a great spot if you are over 55. The home was just as it was pictured and described on the internet. It is very well maintained and so easy to make yourself at home. The beds were very comfortable and the house was very clean and well stocked with all the necessities. When weather permitted, we greatly enjoyed dining on the patio or sipping a glass of wine while watching the wildlife. Hope you enjoy the deer, rabbits and quail as much as we did. The owners went out of their way to make us feel at ease and gave us plenty of helpful tips about the area. We found this location very convenient for exploring both Sonoma and Napa Counties. Several restaurants were outstanding: The Girl and the Fig in Sonoma, Maya in Sonoma, The Bistro in Healdsburg, Willie's Winebe Bar in Santa Rosa. If you want a burger, try Phylis's Big Burgers on Sonoma Highway. At the Ocean, eat at the "Tides." It is where they filmed Alford Hitchcock's "The Birds." (Great food and history.)

Date of Stay: 03/12/10 Review Submitted: 03/12/10

We found 407 Twin Lakes Circle to be a wonderful base from which to explore the Bay Area: San Francisco, coastal attractions, Sonoma and Napa wine country, and some great area restaurants. The accommodations are spacious, set in quiet surroundings, and provide a beautiful view of the adjacent golf course, the hills beyond, and, occasionally, even deer! What a calm and delightful scene to start and end a busy tourist?s day. Tom and Greta were very helpful and accommodating, and we are already looking forward to our return next year. This one?s a keeper!

Owner response:Arnold and Shirley were ideal guests. They stayed six weeks and are returning for two months in 2011. My partner Greta and I had the pleasure of meeting them in person at the end of their stay. We now have new friends from across the Border. Tom and Greta
