Property description

Pink House St Croix is an elegant 3 bedroom home, and beautiful gardenscape located a short walk from a white sand / reef flanked beach. Decorated in period antiques and mahogany, the interior features vaulted spaces and ceiling fans throughout, air conditioned bedrooms and Mexican tile floors. Coral stone outdoor living space and stone walls and brings the gardens and Caribbean Sea view in. The Pink House is located just minutes east of golf at the Buccaneer, Buck Island excursions, restaurants, shopping and the art scene in Christiansted.

The house and location are truly exceptional. It is a vacation home that feels like a home. Comfortable furniture, great views, original art, conveniences, appliances and elegant touches like a mahogany grandfather clock that gently chimes in the quarter hours. Broadband and Dish Network too (for those who absolutely can't leave work and civilization behind).

Our house faces northeast catching the prevailing trade winds, morning sun and afternoon shade. It has some history - 150 foot walk off our back patio sits the ruins of the Cecilia plantation mill (Circa 1804). And it is comforting to know that it is well built - one of the few (approximately 10% of all homes) on the island that did not loose its roof during the 100 year storm 'hurricane Hugo' in 1989.

The location is unique. It is NOT on a remote hill side, NOT separated from the beach by the busy East End Road. It's a neighborhood home built around a great beach, and quiet community. The gardens are a labor of love for my wife who is an avid gardener in two very distinct climate zones. A slide show on our web site highlights some of flowering trees, vines, bushes and cacti and fragrant plants of on our property (all photos shot on the same day).

Our beach is one of the best kept secrets on the island - beautiful white sand, lush foliage and ample shade, gradual sandy entry where you can then swim to coral reefs at Pull Point and Candle Reef and a view of Buck Island that is fantastic.

About the owner: My wife, children and I have been vacationing on the island and throughout the Caribbean since we were married 25 years ago. We love the unique culture and diversity of St Croix. We like seemingly incongruous aspects of island life - the formality of the typical island greeting ('good afternoon'), the slow pace of the day, the sustainable farms, the capture of rainwater in cisterns, the active art scene in Christiansted, the low penetration of US chain stores, driving on the left, and the ease of entry / departure for US citizens. We are pleased to share our new (to us) home and favorite island with friends and family. Pictured at left is my wife - pruners in hand standing on the rail of our balcony trimming back an african tulip tree - Caribbean sea in the background contented smile on her face. It is a favorite of mine.

Why the Owner Chose East End:
Great views, steady breeze, walk to the a beautiful beach for snorkeling and swimming (and kite-boarding for the adventurous). Traditional island architecture, wonderful gardens, great neighbors.
