Area Description: Chelsea roughly extends from 14th street and 34th street on the west side of 6th Avenue and the Hudson river. It is a great area to live in. The apartment is located on 23rd street between 7th and 8th Avenue. This is a really vibrant area of the city with a true New York feel. There are plenty of great restaurants, bars and coffee shops as well as Theaters, comedy venues and galleries. For the nightlife, the best is found between the famous Meat Packing district and the northern part of Chelsea. So you will have the best of both world. On 25th street and 7th Avenue, just two blocks away from the apartment you will find a well-known supermarket offering quality produce and organic food. The subway (red line) is located around the corner from the apartment building. It is in all honesty less than 30 seconds away from the entrance of the building. This will give you an easy access to Times Square, just 10mn away via subway and Greenwich Village.

We stayed at this apartment one full month so it became our home away from home. We enjoyed the outstanding location, made even more convenient by several MTA stations within a few blocks, one within a few hundred feet of the apartment. Great neighborhood with numerous restaurants, grocery stores and retail shops. The apartment was very clean, comfortable, had lots of natural light and colorful views of the urban scene. The building and surrounding area felt very safe, even well into the night. Lana and Fred were responsive to our text messages, and our deposit was returned the same weekend that we vacated the apartment. We would definitely recommend this apartment.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We stayed at Fred and Lana's place for about a week in November 2010. The apartment was exactly as advertised and Fred and Lana were very responsive when we had questions about the internet connection, etc. They were also very accommodating about our flight arriving a bit later in the evening. The location is really great--close to the subway and within walking distance of the High Line, Union Square, etc. The apartment is also very close to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, so it was very easy to stock up on basics for the week. Great for a shorter stay in the city.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

My classmate and I stayed at this apartment for a whole month, and it was everything we needed and more. The listing is very accurate, the apartment looks exactly like the photos shown here. The apartment building has a beautiful lobby and really helpful and wonderful doormen. We always felt safe and secure. The owner provided great customer service and was very prompt in returning emails, texts, etc. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone. Even though I was here for a month, I didn't have time to check out all the restaurants, there are so many! We loved the Thai food at Room Service on 8th Ave, Regional Thai on 7th Ave, and there is excellent/affordable Chinese just north of 23rd and 7th. Our favorite bagel place (and there are many!) was 23rd St Bagels. Try their whole wheat bacon egg and cheese. Garden of Eden was the perfect grocery store, and 99 Cent Creation on 23rd St was a great place to pick up a cheap toothbrush/umbrella/etc. Chelsea Wine Cellar on 7th Ave and 21st St has a great wine selection (especially grenacha!) if you are into that. Also, don't forget to go to West Chelsea to check out the Chelsea Market (9th ave and 15th St). There's amazing clothing, restaurants, food, and kitchen stores. I always felt safe in this neighborhood 24 hours a day. Living in this apartment and working in NYC for a whole month was great, wish we could have stayed even longer! Fred and Lana are the coolest! Thanks guys!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

We stayed 8 nights in this apartment and would recommend this over a hotel stay any day. Chelsea is a fabulous safe neighborhood, that is vibrant, gay friendly and great for feeling like a local rather than a tourist. We found the owner Fred-Alex to be very friendly, honest, accommodating and great for local knowledge. Deposit was refunded promptly on the day of our departure. The apartment was clean, bright and spacious and matched the photos online. Bathroom is typical NY compact, so a one person fit. Bedroom had a futon type bed which was firm but very comfortable it was very quiet and airy as it overlooked the back of the apartment block. It was homely enough to prepare basic meals, although there are great eating places nearby including the Chelsea markets, lots of restaurants on 7th and for a cheap lunch highly recommend Bistro East of Eighth (on 23rd near 8th Ave) in the back garden area. Subway access conveniently close by to get you to Times Square, Central Park, Financial District and Downtown. Within walking distance of the Village, Meatpacking District and SoHo. Handy to have free computer access even though the connection was slow at times. Great rooftop views at sunset and a laundry was a bonus in this friendly apartment complex. Doormen very friendly and always forthcoming with a hello. Have no hesitations of recommending this place to family or friends as an alternative to staying in a hotel. Would definitely stay there again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Hello Guys, thanks for the great review. I still have to try the bistro East of Eight garden. But I'm very partial to the small Thai food place on 22nd. Love their food. By the way just so there is no confusion. There's a real bed in the bedroom but the mattress is a Nordic type mattress not a spring mattress. Supposed to be much better for your back! Fred & Lana

This apartment is exactly as presented in the photographs - extremely clean and well maintained, and in a very safe and active neighborhood. It is located in a perfect location if you are using the subway; and the market next door even delivers prepared food - which we took advantage of for breakfast. Restaurants and Markets were close by, as well as galleries. It is a very walkable area to be in. There were four of us staying there, so we used the sleeper sofa, which was comfortable for one person, but hard on one side for the second person - which could easily be remedied with extra padding. The owner promptly responded to any requests we made, so I am sure he will address this. Since the apartment is on an avenue, it does have traffic noise, but we figured we were in NYC and that was just part of the experience, and a trade off for the great location. We were there in May, and the early sunrise came through the white blinds, so if you are light sensitive and want to sleep late, you may want to bring eye blinders. I highly recommend this property - it made our stay so easy.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you for the positive review. We really appreciate it. We now have an extra padding mattress for the sofa-bed for those who wants more softness. Just a note in regards of the noise and the location. The apartment is facing 23rd street and the bedroom is in the back of the building. So the bedroom is indeed quiet. But it is true that the living room would not be a good fit for light sleeper. Or you have to be a good trooper and think of it as part of the NYC experience like you did:) Fred & Lana

This apartment was perfect for our needs, located within walking distance to all the must-do sites in New York and two minutes to the nearest subway. The apartment is clean, comfortable and modern and has everything you need with the added bonus of a laptop, although make sure you get directions for how to log back in if you aren't computer savvy. Likewise it took us a while to work out the TV, written instructions would be helpful, although help is only a phone call away. We were greeted at the apartment on arrival (and our deposit was refunded on the day we left). This personal touch added to an altogether fabulous stay. I recommend this apartment, way better than a hotel.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 6/6
