The owner was very nice. She was friendly and helpful and let us know if we needed anything, to contact her right away. We did not have high expectations. The photos are accurate, so we weren't expecting luxury. We were expecting basic, comfortable lodging for our family of four during our week in SF. This should not be a vacation rental. It would be ok for someone living long term, who could see (and hear) what they were getting into before they made the commitment to rent. We arrived at the rental and had to walk through a dark, cluttered garage area to get to the unit. Once inside, the unit had very low ceilings that I could touch. Also, plumbing pipes came down through the ceiling in various places, and when the occupants upstairs took a shower, it was loud enough to wake us up. There are only two windows in the living room, and none in the bedroom. The bathroom has been recently updated and is in good shape, but again, no windows. There is a door in the living room that cannot be locked from the inside, not sure where it goes... The main room is done in natural wood, and the lighting is dismal. Most of the furniture seems to be second hand from the owner. The kitchen is truly funky. We didn't plan on cooking, but it would have been difficult. The lighting is poor, and the sink is located beneath the counter/bar so you cannot really see what is going on. It is literally at about thigh level. The coffee machine was dirty, as was the kitchen sink. There were cobwebs in the rafters above the bed. We were told to park in the driveway, but the bushes on the sides were so overgrown that everyone had to get out before I pulled in. The worst part was the noise. From 6:30am to 1:00am, there is activity on the wood floors upstairs. the owner told us she gets up at 6:30 for work, and we heard it every morning. My wife wore earplugs and still got woken up. It sounded like furniture was being moved every morning, and when something dropped on the floor upstairs, we jumped because it was so loud. In her defense, the owner did let us out of the rental agreement after four days at no charge, but it took most of a vacation day to research a new place and pack up and move out. This is a space that has seen better days, and is not a place I would recommend as a vacation rental. I don't think it is fair to expect vacationers to put up with the noise from upstairs.Recommended for: Adventure seekers.

It was such a kick to stay in this homey, fun apartment in a non-touristy, locals neighborhood. No, there's no "chef's kitchen" to use, but with SF's variety of food to try, who wants to cook? The bathroom is newly redone and has a wonderful towel warmer/dryer, the bedroom is sweetly appointed, the living area is cozy and comfortable. One of the closest restaurants is an Egyptian place on the way to Ocean Beach -- do try it. Two major bus lines are easily accessible, so with a little patience, you can get pretty much anywhere you want to be in this wonderful city.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers.

The owner, who lives above the unit, is wonderful. She was gracious and accommodating at every turn; however, be sure you read "galley" kitchen. The kitchen is just a small frig and microwave with a sink mounted at knee level below the counter. Our granddaughters enjoyed the swingset and the resident cat. Also be aware the bedroom is directly below the owner's teenaged daughter. The first night we got almost no sleep, but the noise level was much reduced after talking to the owner. Wonderful bakery and coffee shop steps away. Excellent choice for the money.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+.

Great neighborhood, great quirky place. Roomy, well-equipped, spices and condiments, great garden, and where else would you find a toaster-egg poacher combo! Enjoyed perusing the book collection - lots on life in Victorian era. We decided to come car-free and it was great. Took the Super Shuttle to and from the airport. Take cash and get a 3 or 7 day MUNI pass at the airport - $26 for a week - best bargain in town! Or walk up to Geary from this place and take the bus ($2 cash) to Presidio station, and be sure to buy a $3 bus map. you can get anyplace pretty easily. Walk or bus to Ocean Beach. Sat. mornings, catch the small-dog walk. In GG Park, check out Japanese Tea Garden, free M-W-Fri 9-10 a.m. Natl Aids Meml Grove is beautiful. The historic carousel in kids' area also a must-see. Best lunch: Clare's Deli 3505 17th - bus 33 or 49 - great area on Mission St. near here.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.

this is the second time we've stayed at this wonderful place.everything is so clean and cozy. Pat and her family are the bests hosts.there is a bus stop right at the corner so you can park your car and leave it in the driveway almost the whole time. No driving around trying to find a place to park or paying 25.00 + in a parking garage. There was everything we needed ,internet, cable, and a great gas fireplace to have tea by. We could go on and on. Don't miss this place! If you go give lots of love to that adorable garden beast!! We stayed in a sweet little apartment in the city with an amazing hideaway of a backyard. We felt like we were living in a fairy grotto. And the back yard swing! .Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3
