Why the Owner Chose Red Hook

The location of our lake cottage is ideal for a getaway from the stress and fast pace of the city. The privacy and tranquility of the lake and cottage is so inviting and peaceful. Our favorite is all of the wild life we see almost daily, such as deer, turkey or geese , rabbits , hawks, heron, swans and an occasional eagle. The wild life is abundant in the area.

A
Lake Cottage

Completely private on the lake with own private deck dock and boats.

B
Red Wing hiking trail

A great 3 mile hike just down the street from the cottage.

C
Greig Farm and Gigi Market

Great U-pick farm throughout the summer. Gigi market is a good bike ride from the cottage for a great gourmet skizza pizza and salad.

D
Tivoli

Funky college town with great restaurants for dinner.

Owner's Map of Red Hook

Our family (Bruce, Deanna and our daughter Olivia ) moved to the New York Hudson Valley area in 2000 from the west coast. Deanna has been a flight attendant for 24 years and enjoys both flying and being home . Our daughter Olivia is now going into high school and has enjoyed the country life and Red Hook's wonderful school system. Bruce worked in hotel management on the west coast for 20 years and decided a different lifestyle was needed. We had only planned on staying here for a couple of years but fell in love with the area and community and decided to stay. We built a vacation rental on our lake property to give Bruce a project and combining Bruce's knowledge of the hotel business and Deanna's bed and breakfast background from Napa Valley , California, the lake cottage has evolved into a wonderful full time business. We are grateful to our many repeat guests and our new guests for making it such a success.

    • This place is AMAZING!!!! It was more than we could have had imagined...Not only is this cabin immaculately clean and well maintained but has great perks such as a very well equipped kitchen and items available for leisure activities (kayaks, bikes, movies, games, books, etc...) We are avid travelers and it is rare to find such a gem of a place where you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. Thanks Bruce and Deanna for the attention to detail...we loved the fresh tulips and yummy chocolates! Hope to see you very soon! Kira, Freddy, Tara and Sam

    • We spent a wonderful 3 nites at your Hudson Valley Paradise on the Lake. My wife and I enjoyed the relaxation of sitting by the fireplace and on the porch overlooking the lake...and of course the hot tub. Kayaking on the lake was another fun adventure. Our golden retriever Zeke was in heaven. Thanks to Bruce & Deanna for providing this great escape only a few hours from the metropolitan area.

    • No Worries here!We chose the cottage because it is close to Bard College, for a visit with my son. It is everything and more than you can see from the ad.Tastefully decorated, great kitchen, beautiful gardens all around! Very romantic, private, and picturesque. This is excellent value for the price. Things like the nice linens, soaps, lotions, and the makings for pancakes, are just some of the unexpected treats. We would recommend this to the pickiest of travelers!

    • My husband and I, our daughter and 4 year old granddaughter (from Austin, TX)were just in Tivoli for a family wedding and spent 3 delightful days at the Painted Turtle. Our granddaughter Zoe just loved everything and didn't want to leave. She even had to have her picture taken with the chickens so that she wouldn't forget them. The write-up on the website doesn't do the cottage or the landscaping justice...everything you could possibly imagine is there. We hope to return.

    • This is our second visit to the Painted Turtle cottage and we just can't say enough about how wonderful our week was!!! The lake helped us to beat the summer heat wave and we really enjoyed using the kayaks and the bicycles. The cottage is perfectly equipped and spotless. The screened porch was our favorite place to relax and we enjoyed watching the wide variety of birds attracted to the bird feeders. We look forward to another stay next summer!

    • A slice of heaven on earth! We've rented many summer houses in the Hudson Valley and this one is truly special!!! The owners, Bruce and Deanna, have thought of everything to make the guests' stay comfortable and relaxing. The porch is fantastic, as are the decks leading down to the lake. We loved all the natural wood in the house and how well thought out the floor plan is. The kitchen was incredibly well-equiped and everything was spotless. We appreciated all the little touches to make our stay comfortable and look forward to many more summer weeks at the Painted Turtle!

There is everything you can dream of: Hot tub, kayak, canoe, hammock, birds, squirrels of all kinds... I will definitely go again.

    • This was our first vacation with our 5 month-old daughter, and it was absolutely wonderful. The cottage is very warm and inviting, and the hosts could not be more accomidating. Everything was pristine. The kitchen was better equiped than my own kitchen at home, the beds were extremely comfortable. The screened in porch was were we spent most of the evenings enjoying the fresh country air. The dock by the lake was great and the canoe and kayaks were a definite plus. It was very hard to leave this place but hopefully we'll be coming back for years to come.

    • I just recently returned back from a weekend getaway at the Painted Turtle Cottage with my boyfriend and we had a wonderful time there. It was everything it said it was and much more.. I continue to tell everyone how cozy this cottage was and how the owners left everything you needed in that cottage. The fireplace was amazing as well as the kitchen with everything you could possible need and more. You did not have to leave the cottage for anything because everything u needed was there, the view of the lake, the hammack, all were wonderful and soo relaxing. It was a great getaway from the busy bronx. I would most definatly want to return some day. Sincerly, Gabriel and Sorelis Bronx, Ny
