relaxing! calm.. clean.. exactly like the pictures show! bunch of bikes in the shed (some may need some air), 4 boats by the dock (1 is a 3 person boat), and really close to 2 towns with places to eat as well as small hang outs. fire pit was great for night time. all in all, it was a great time away from work and city hustling.

I rented the painted turtle for our 1st Wedding Ann. and everything was perfect.! We arrived friday and unfortunatley had to go on Sun, although we were able to use all that is offered! The cottage is very quaint, the heated floors in the bathroom was a huge plus! The loft bed for slepping was very comfortable and the kithcen was equiped with all you need. Now the best part for us was the hot tub and fire pit! We used both at night and were so happy doing so! We made smores and just chilled by the fire all night..... Then to wind down for bed we jumped in the hottub and melted away. We met bruce on our 2nd day and he was very nice... all in all its a WINNER! we"ll be back for sure. Oh almost forgot....THE LAKE AND DECK IS OUTSTANDING!

The cottage experience was a perfect little place to get away for a few days...It was clean, what Deanna and Bruce said it would be,and in a perfect location... The lake is beautiful, the house is updated and I coudn't have asked for any more than what we experienced! A great, and quick little get away from the NY metro area.

We (an NYC couple) enjoyed a delightful getaway at the Painted Turtle last month. The house is perfect -- cozy and spotless, with lots of nooks for reading, a great kitchen to cook in, and comfy beds for restful sleep. We spent our days watching colorful birds from the porch, talking to the free-range chickens (and enjoying their eggs), paddling and floating around the lake, taking walks on the country road, cooking and grilling gourmet meals and reading for hours and hours. At night, we enjoyed sunsets on the dock, curled up to DVDs, and went for softserve in town. In short, the perfect getaway. We can't wait to go back!

We stayed in this idyllic setting the “Painted Turtle Cottage” for four days in March 2011 and the only problem now is, when would be the best time to return? Spring, summer or autumn (fall)? We would imagine that every season would have its own particular charm and that a stay in this wonderful cottage would be magical whatever time of year one chose.??However, back to our particular stay. We were looking for a romantic getaway to spend the last four days of a two week holiday in New York City. We had heard that apartment rentals in the city should be avoided because of the local regulations as well as the fact that there are an awful lot of scams out there to trap the unwary. Consequently, we were a little nervous at booking through Vrbo but we needn’t have been concerned for a second.??The owners (Bruce and Deanna) were helpful and accommodating right from day one and put up with our constant questions and changes of date with the utmost patience. No question was too silly and, when I realized that we would be arriving on a Sunday – a day when all the car rental agencies are closed, Bruce immediately offered to pick us up from the nearest train station as well as suggesting that he could organize for Enterprise to come and collect us on the Monday morning.??As it turned out, we arrived at Rhinebeck station at lunch time on the allotted Sunday hardly speaking after an ‘altercation’ the previous night. However, once we arrived at the cottage and saw the welcoming log fire and bottle of wine which they had thoughtfully provided, relations started to thaw. Bruce even suggested that there was no need to cook as he was doing Mexican that night and we were very welcome to share. By the time we had washed down the last of the tacos with the delicious red wine, things were back to normal and we decided to sleep in the loft bedroom where the bed was every bit as comfortable as the one in the Kimberly Hotel where we had been staying.??We decided to spend our first day exploring the area around our cabin as well as shopping for food essentials and, again, Bruce couldn’t have been more helpful. He dropped us off at the nearby supermarket then came back to pick us up a little while later. He found us still shopping and suggested that, as he needed to buy one or two items, we should go out to the car when we were ready as he had left it unlocked. Apparently, they don’t feel the need to lock their doors as it is such a neighborly community.??I’m afraid I’m rambling b

Our plan was to get a couple of relaxing nights away and we got exactly what we wanted. This is a peaceful and immaculate cottage. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub surrounded by the snow and quiet in the evening. The cottage has everything that you need for a nice getaway.

This cabin is so lovely, and Bruce and Deanna are outstanding hosts. It is warm, cozy, clean, and luxurious. The bathtub is very spa-like, and even in a light rain the hot tub was perfect. The dock is private, and it is so easy to take the canoe for a spin! Also, I left my hard drive in the cabin and Bruce and Deanna were so amazing and accommodating about sending it back to me immediately, without a hitch. The small community of houses there are peaceful, wooded, and safe. And the king size bed upstairs is so comfortable! It's low to the ground and has a very natural, zen-like feel to it. We slept so peacefully, and were not wanting for anything. Also, very easy to cook whatever we wanted in the kitchen (although if you are a picky chef, you may want to bring your own knife). We were there in late November, and found this to be a perfect off-season sneak from the city. Highly recommended!!

Bruce and Deanna know how to make a guest feel at home! The cottage was as described and then some. The photos really don't do it justice, despite their lovliness. The cottage is spotlessly clean and very well appointed. The grounds are park-like. The house and it's hosts are very welcoming. We enjoyed our stay so much we booked another one before leaving! Kudos, Bruce!

I can only echo what all of the other reviews have said. This is a wonderful cottage away from it all. It is kept in meticulous condition and you want for nothing. I debated writing a review as to keep this place a secret but decided it was o.k to share it! We spent time in there over Christmas so when we entered the house to the warm fireplace going, and the adorable Christmas tree we knew it was going to be magical. And it was. Can't wait to visit again. Thanks Bruce and Deanna!

We have stayed in many homeaway locations, this was by far the absolute BEST! The cottage was immaculate with personal touches like a personalized welcome letter, fresh flowers, organic coffee and well stocked kitchen. Fluffy down comforters, lovely linens and a heated bathroom floor!! My husband and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary and both our birthdays during our three night stay. Paddled in the canoe, walked in the woods, lounged on the decks and screened porch and snuggled by the outdoor fire-pit! Quiet and remote setting. Enjoyed watching the birds feed at the feeder and the fattest chip munks ever frolic in the woods. Visited Hyde Park and Vanderbilt Mansion, great eateries in Rhinebeck (close by) Would definitely go back and have already recommended it to many friends..easy drive from NJ, NYC or PA. thanks Bruce and Deanna!

Wow! We spent a wonderful week at Painted Turtle Pond this summer with our two girls ages 6 & 8. The accommodations were phenomenal. We had planned to do and see all sorts of things in the Hudson River Valley and ended up just enjoying the lake and grounds day in and day out. Bruce and Deanna are gracious hosts with hotel experience so they know how to make a rental property feel cozy with fantastic linens, an impeccably clean cabin and all the little extras that you appreciate when traveling. Lots of character along side a wonderfully well thought out vacation property, all the way down to the wondering designer chickens, kitchen garden and oh so fabulous rope swing! Enjoy, you will not be disappointed.

The cabin was fully equipped and everything easily accessible. We had a great time fishing and boating on the lake. The hot tub was a wonderful way to end the day. Bruce and Deanna we can't thank you enough for the hospitality. Will definitely come back soon.

My husband I spent 2 wonderful days at this secluded cabin tucked amongst the woods with a beautiful view of a lake. The weather was cold and it was snowy outside but the cabin was the most cozy and comfortable place to relax. We were also surprised and delighted with how well equipped the kitchen was to make breakfast, lunch and dinner. We stayed in the bedroom downstairs and awoke to the most beautiful view of snow covered trees and the frozen lake. I haven't had such a deep sleep in a long while. Thanks for renting your cottage!!

We are avid travelers and it is rare to find such a gem of a place where you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. Thanks Bruce and Deanna for the attention to detail...we loved the fresh tulips and yummy chocolates! Hope to see you very soon! Kira, Freddy, Tara and Sam

We spent a wonderful 3 nites at your Hudson Valley Paradise on the Lake. My wife and I enjoyed the relaxation of sitting by the fireplace and on the porch overlooking the lake...and of course the hot tub. Kayaking on the lake was another fun adventure. Our golden retriever Zeke was in heaven. Thanks to Bruce & Deanna for providing this great escape only a few hours from the metropolitan area.

It is everything and more than you can see from the ad.Tastefully decorated, great kitchen, beautiful gardens all around! Very romantic, private, and picturesque. This is excellent value for the price. Things like the nice linens, soaps, lotions, and the makings for pancakes, are just some of the unexpected treats. We would recommend this to the pickiest of travelers!

My husband and I, our daughter and 4 year old granddaughter (from Austin, TX)were just in Tivoli for a family wedding and spent 3 delightful days at the Painted Turtle. Our granddaughter Zoe just loved everything and didn't want to leave. She even had to have her picture taken with the chickens so that she wouldn't forget them. The write-up on the website doesn't do the cottage or the landscaping justice...everything you could possibly imagine is there. We hope to return.

I rented this cozy place for my birthday weekend. I really wanted to get out of the city and get into nature. Willow Lake was the perfect spot! The property is as picturesque as it gets, is expansive and fun to explore. The stone houses are amazing and transport you to another time. The chickens are adorable too. The guys caught a bunch of fish in the lake while the girls rowed a canoe around the floating red leaves of autumn. The owner made us feel at home right away and even baked us cookies! I would love to come back in the summertime with a larger group of people for a longer period of time. A weekend stay made us all want to stay longer, like forever! A car is necessary unless you're bringing everything you need with you or the weather will be clear so you can walk/bike the mile or so to shopping.

We spent a week here in mid September. The cottage is incredible. We had the best vacation we can remember because of how relaxing it was. The setting is very nice, with birds, fish and rabbits. The lake is the perfect temperature. The owner has incredibly good taste and the cottage works perfectly, everything is in the place where you expect it to be. The kitchen works very well. And there are many details that you discover while you are there, that make every day something new. The breezes off the lake are very nice. And it is extremely quiet. Great stay, we hope to go back soon.

This is our second visit to the Painted Turtle cottage and we just can't say enough about how wonderful our week was!!! The lake helped us to beat the summer heat wave and we really enjoyed using the kayaks and the bicycles. The cottage is perfectly equipped and spotless. The screened porch was our favorite place to relax and we enjoyed watching the wide variety of birds attracted to the bird feeders. We look forward to another stay next summer!

This cottage is everything that is advertised and more. The setting is beautiful, the cottage clean and well equiped and the owners couldn't have done more to make our week as comfortable as possible. They are lovely people. We would eat breakfast on the covered veranda while chipmunks chased across the garden and birds flew down to a feeder two feet away. It was just magical. Then to add to that, one evening, the sun set into a pink sky over the lake beyond where we were eating barbequed fish, caught in the lake not long before! We also ate out in local diners and restaurants. There is a hot tub if you want to relax,as well as decking with sunbeds ans hammocks. For the more energetic four bicycles are available and a canoe and kayaks for those who want fun on the water. It was fun jumping into the lake with the swing rope. The lake is beautiful for swimming in too. As you can probably tell, we had a great time!

Myself, and three girlfriends, spent a wonderful weekend at this charming little cottage on the lake. The place is beautifully maintained, and surrounded by stunning landscaping and gardens. We spent most of our time reading and enjoying our meals on the screened-in porch overlooking the lake. A great spot! The small lake was quiet and the water warm - perfect for swimming and canoeing. There are some quaint towns nearby, such as Rhinebeck, full of great cafes, boutiques & antique shops. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to escape the city and have a relaxing vacation away from it all! We can't wait to come back. Thank-you Bruce & Deanna!

My husband and I just spent 5 days at this cottage. It rained and sometimes poured, but despite that, we had a terrific time there. The cottage is incredibly comfortable and spotless, decorated with taste, and has all amenities one might think of: a great (very well equipped) kitchen, lovely gas fireplace, books, games, videos, cable, fast wi-fi, a hot tub, kayaks, etc.. etc… It is located in a remote area on a small lake, which makes it a very quiet and romantic spot. It is a perfect place for those who like to contemplate, read, take walks and forget city life for a while. The owners have thought of literally everything to make anyone's stay a pure delight. We certainly hope to be back.

The owners, Bruce and Deanna, have thought of everything to make the guests' stay comfortable and relaxing. The porch is fantastic, as are the decks leading down to the lake. We loved all the natural wood in the house and how well thought out the floor plan is. The kitchen was incredibly well-equiped and everything was spotless. FROM OUR GUEST BOOK...We needed a retreat, a place to unwind and relax. We found that, and more, at this peaceful cottage. We read, wrote, talked and watched the wildlife. Squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and deer fritted and scampered through the clearing. Alpha Squirrel was fun to watch-perched high on the birdfeeder, chattering gutteral challenges to those who would steal "his" hoard. The weather was nice. Some rain occassionally splattered the leaves, but at some point each day the sun sent shimmering grins across the lake. We hope all who stay here enjoy the traquility and fresh air as much as we did. This is trily a lovely cottage and we hope to find our way again.Thank you, Bruce and Deanna, for your hospitality and for sharing your cottage ( and the peace it brought)...
