Beautiful Magic Hale is perfect for a romantic get-away, a healing or creative retreat, or as a convenient and comfortable home base for exploring the wonders of the magical Puna district as well as Volcano National Park, Hilo,East Hawaii beaches and the Hamakua Coast.
Ideally suited for individuals and couples, Beautiful Magic Cottage is a quiet , private, comfortable and charming 480 sq. ft artist’s house with a 280 sq. ft. covered lanai on one acre of land with native ohia trees, flowers, bananas and other tropical landscaping.
The lanai is perfect for lounging, dining, bird watching and seeing legendary Mauna Kea, the largest of Hawaii’s mountains. The house is open-beam with oversize windows providing lots of light and good air flow for maximum comfort . A walk-in closet separates the sleeping area from the kitchen and living area. The sleeping area has a comfortable double bed, and a small open lanai for stargazing.
A six block walk or short drive takes you to the stunning ocean cliffs of Hawaiian Paradise park. If you like exploring on foot or by mountain bike you can discover the site of a Hawaiian heiau, walk through a silent forest of ironwood trees, become entranced by the patterns in the lava and renewed by the tropical colors and music of the sea. I lived in Hawaii for six years and before that had come many times on vacation. I love snorkeling, natural wonders, plants, diversity, Hawaiian culture, the sea and Pele's land. Beautiful Magic Hale is the house I designed and worked with a builder to create. I camped extensively on my land before building and so the house has excellent light and breeze and is well-situated for privacy. I chose to keep the volcanic texture of the land, so plantings take advantage of the natural contour of the lava. I do not use pesticides or toxic chemicals on the aina and use green cleaning supplies in the house.
Why the Owner Chose Keaau
I love being near the ocean and my Hale is about a twenty minute walk from the sea. There are also many trails and hikes along the sea cliffs near the cottage. This area of Hawaiian Paradise Park also gets significantly less rain than properties farther up in the Park and as a sun lover that was a definite consideration. I enjoy being centrally located to Hilo for some city life and culture, Pahoa for restaurants and unusual events, Puna for Pele's plumes and the warm pond as well as an easy drive to Volcano Nat. Park and the Hamakua coast.
The Unique Benefits of this House
I appreciate living closer to natural beauty because of the friendly warm climate and the large covered lanai that's perfect for writing, dancing or reading a good novel. I like being able to participate in Hawaiian cultural events as well as the increasing number of sustainable events on the Big Island. Also, you never know what famous people will stop in Hilo to perform, so it's always worth checking the local papers.
