Location, location location... You will be minutes from plenty to do in and around Mount Pleasant, a suburb of Charleston. This neighborhood is perfect for a nice walk or bike ride. Going any direction will either lead you toward sandy beaches, marshy creeks, plenty of restaurants or the Arthur Ravenel Bridge which has an excellent view of the area and wonderful to cross outside of the car!
Also located in the neighborhood AKA the 'Old Village' you will find 'The Old Bridge' which used to link Sullivan's Island to Mount Pleasant during the Civil War era. This has now been converted to a nice park and surrounded by the intercoastal waterway. Great location for fishing, crabbing, shrimping, or watching the sun set over Charleston from the benches.
Restaurants on Shem Creek give you a taste of Charleston’s finest seafood while watching the shrimp boats come in to dock or kayaks paddle on by. A local playground is about 3/4 of a mile away which sports clay tennis courts for public use. The old village 'Pitt Street' area gives you a unique feeling of what Mount Pleasant was like when we first spread out from Charleston onto the islands...
The house is minutes from Sullivan's Island; Home of Fort Moultrie where the first shots of the civil war rang! The Fort and its Museum is free of cost. You are also located about 2 miles from Patriots Point which is a Naval Wartime Museum (Golf Course across street).
In 5 minutes you can also go to the Charleston visitors center downtown. You will see advertisements for all the splendor Charleston and it’s surrounding areas have to offer in one location. There is just too much to list here…
If you want to be local to all things historic to contemporary, the old village is the place to stay…

We stayed here with two of our kids for a family wedding @ Boone Hall. Perfect for a family versus a hotel as more than one bath !!! Nice backyard, very residential area, easy access to Sullivans, IOP, downtown, etc... AC works good, which you need in Charleston in summer....Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

Our family stayed at this home and it could not have been more perfect. The home was clean and comfortable, and the neighborhood was quiet. The location was perfect, allowing a quick trip to downtown Charleston or the beaches of Sullivan Island and Isle of Palms. Shopping was also close by. We also enjoyed the porch swing. The owner was very pleasant to deal with and the travel arrangements were very easily made. Thank you for allowing us to stay in such a wonderful home for our family vacation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

A nice expanded beach house in a quiet neighborhood. It was great to be 15 minutes from Downtown Charleston, 10 minutes to Sullivan Island in the opposite direction and minutes to local seafood cafe's. We would recommend this place to anyone visiting the area for the first time. We expect to be back.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

Four ladies visited this property in January 2012. The property description was true and very comfortable. The owner was helpful with costs, checkin info, and prompt w/ email responses. We loved the quiet neighborhood and the location was only 10-15 minutes from downtown Charleston. We would definitely stay there again.Recommended for: Sightseeing.

This was a great place to stay for the trip we made to Charleston for a family wedding. The pictures were exactly like the house. We had eight adults and it worked out just fine. It was nice just to relax when we weren't busy with wedding things and to sit on the porch and visit with family. We would definitly stay here again. We had everything we needed. The location was great and close to everything.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

Home was clean and as-described. It was exactly what we needed for a weekend golf outing. Close to the golf courses in Isle of Palms and nightlife in downtown Charleston. The owner was very helpful through the process. Had a great experience with this home through VRBO.Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We rented this house for a week in June 2011. We absolutely loved this home! Location was perfect. Quiet neighborhood w/ barely any traffic, & only a 5 minute drive to Charleston! Plenty of room for our family of 5 ! Very clean inside & out, and the owner really overstocked kitchen with pretty much anything one would need ( inc. a few recipe books that had awesome local seafood recipes in them ) My children are 6yrs, 4 yrs & 5 months old, they had a blast playing in the fenced in bk yard and I loved relaxing on the porch swing. We really could not ask for more! There were games for the kids, dvds, it really didnt lack a thing....Very well stocked, so many pillows, towels, blankets. During our stay, temps were over 100 outside, house stayed cold inside, the air conditioning system works GREAT ! We will be back here as much as possible....Loved vacationing in this house!!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, families with teenagers, people with disabilities, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

We just recently stayed in this home while in Mount Pleasant for a family wedding. We enjoyed this home so much. The weather was perfect for sitting outside with the family on the big front porch. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. The house was comfortable, very clean, and big enough to accommodate all 9 of us (including 2 teenagers and 2 kids under 5)! Any time I needed to contact the owner with questions, she was more than helpful. Should we vacation in the Charleston/Mount Pleasant location again, we will definitely be staying here. If you are looking for a comfortable, relaxing place to stay, I recommend this home. It was PERFECT for us!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

House could be very nice but needs some updating. The washing machine would flood the porch when we tried to use it. We ended up going to a coin laundry. Our expectation was that we could wash so we simply did not bring enough clothes for the entire week. A sliding shower door fell off when my grandson tried to close it. Roto Rooter had to come out and pump due to plumbing issues. The AC unit did not cool sufficiently in certain parts of the home. The kitchen and adjoining family room were very uncomfortable while the bedrooms did stay cool enough. Perhaps a backup window unit in that area would be helpful. The house is located in a quiet residential area so it definitey could be a great retreat. None of our party remained for our entire week due to all the things that were wrong. The owner is a very nice person and tried to be accomadating but because so many things were wrong it made for a disappointing trip altogether. I guess no one expects to have to be one the phone almost everyday while on vacation with a property owner dealing with repair issues. All issues mentioned need to be non issues when one is on vacation. Even though the price seemed great prior to the stay it ended up not being a good value at all for us.Owner response: Thank you for the feedback. You are a visitor I remember because of how badly I felt for the plumbing issue happening during your stay. It’s difficult when things out of my control take place. However, the plumbing in the front part of the home was found to be backed due to a tree blocking the line. Thus the washer located outside and front bath became backed up. Thankfully, the back bath and shower are connected to the city and were usable while repairs were being done. I had the plumbers link the entire home to the city which elimiates another septic problem. At the time of the repairs, the plumber also knocked down and crushed the main piece of duct work to the front of the home. I can see how it was warmer in the that part of the house ; as a result of this. I had this fixed once noticed. The washer was replaced, because the water that backed up had damaged the electrical board. As the owner, I did do all that I could to inform the professionals to please get in and out as quickly and efficiently as possible I also tried to keep you informed of what was happening and why. I would like to indicate that the home was in fact updated in 09. These upgrades include but are not limited to: New hardwood floors, refrigerator, paint, roof, windows, siding, ceiling fans, kitchen and bath fixtures, microwave, TV, DVD/VCR, front bathroom- tile floor, tub, toilet, and sink, wired for cable and wireless internet, covered back porch with lights, ceiling fan and painted. Most recently I’ve added another queen bed, plumbing, and washer in 2010, and HVAC in 2011 (not related to this review). I have owned, rented and maintained many rental properties over my 14 yrs. as a landlord. With this property being my grandmothers and hopefully my future home, it will not be neglected by me if humanly possible. I was quite surprised to get this note nine months after a stay but I take all suggestions sincerely and I’m grateful that there is nothing that I did not either address during your stay or have since addressed due to noticing it by default. I sincerely hope your next visit to Charleston will be a much better experience. I welcome a call to allow me the opportunity to make it up to you if you so desire. Many thanks again for the note and I hope you will take me up on that offer. Regards, Lisa Raye P.S. Bath door has a cracked bottom runner and is being taken down and replaced with a curtain

My family booked this property spring of 2010. The house itself is in a GREAT location to both the beaches and to downtown Charleston. The neighborhood is in a quiet and very family friendly neighborhood. There are grocery stores such as Whole Foods very close by and a Starbuck's just a few blocks away....:) There are incredible restaurants , plantation tours and shopping minutes away !The house is quite large both inside and out. The kitchen is fully stocked with any kind of pot or pan you may need ! We enjoyed so many breakfasts and dinners outside in the yard on the patio and on the deck. The porch out front made a great spot to have a cup of coffee and read a book in the mornings. People who walked by would wave and say hello. What a friendly neighborhood ! The bedrooms are quite large and the beds are incredibly comfortable. Having a large washer and dryer on the property was great. What was an added bonus for me was a large clothesline in back to line dry all our clothes. The owner is wonderful to talk to and book vacations with ! We loved staying here so much that we booked a winter vacation for later this year and a 2 week stay for next summer. I HIGHLY recommend this property ! The only thing you need to bring is yourself....This house has everything else.Recommended for: Pet owners, adventure seekers, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: I was born and raised in Charleston on the Isle of Palms. My family moved to Mt. Pleasant right before Hugo hit in 1989 because the beach traffic was too much. We settled in Old Mt. Pleasant a block from my Grandparents. I currently live in Rock Hill, SC outside of Charlotte. However, I am looking to return to Charleston in the near future and currently use this home when it's not rented to build my business back in the low country.
Why the Owner Chose Mount Pleasant:
The classy lady in this photo was my grandmother and one of the original owners of this home. I have upgraded the property to include hardwoods throughout, updated bath and kitchen along with new windows throughout. This is my homestead and I lived here many years growing up. Therefore, even though the home is now updated and most personal items have been removed to open up for you to enjoy, it will always be home to me.. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do!
