The Viewhouse in Levels is a beautifully renovated 1941 farmhouse which is perched on the edge of a mountaintop, overlooking the south branch Potomac and the Greenspring valley 1000 feet below. It has been completely remodeled and updated, and yet much of its original charm has been maintained. The house boasts 3 bedrooms, including a 17 by 17 foot master bedroom, an incredible 17 by 24 foot sitting room, a formal dining room, a well designed and good size kitchen with pantry, the original front and side porches, and a fabulous 16 by 40 foot deck with a grilling area just off the kitchen.
There is also a large work or play room in the basement, and a carport for two vehicles. Finishes include all new drywall and paint, ceramic tiles in the bathrooms, original wood floors in two rooms, a custom 10 species hardwood floor in the addition, and beautiful cork floors in the kitchen and one bedroom. Windows and natural light abound. This house is ideal for getting away, yet is located within 2 hours and 15 minutes from Washington DC.
The view is absolutely incredible, and on clear days the mountains of distant Pennsylvania may be visible. The back of the house and the deck face west, resulting in wonderful sunsets and storm watching. And the stargazing is exceptional, and the bird watching can be excellent.
The flow of the interior, the natural light, the homes' positive energy, and the peace and quiet, make this a difficult place to leave.
This home is ideally suited for entire families or for the weekend or weekly getaway, any time of the year. An ideal retreat for artists, writers, musicians, outdoor lovers, any lovers, hikers, mountain bikers, fishermen, hunters, boaters, birdwatchers, and anyone else who needs a little more peace and quiet in their lives. The historic Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad, one of America's most beautiful train rides, departs from Romney, only 30 minutes away.
The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, which takes you through the spectacular scenery of the Allegheny Mountains in Western Maryland, departs from Cumberland, less than an hour away.
Crystal Valley Ranch, 30 minutes away, provides Wilderness Horse Trail Rides and Horse Riding Lessons.
Pliska Winery, a picturesque vineyard and farm winery with tasting room an vineyard visits is in Purgitsville and open by appointment.
Ice Mountain/Nature Conservancy Preserve offers tours that depart from Slanesville, 30 minutes away. Free guided tours by arrangement (2-week lead time requested). Good physical condition is necessary to tackle these hikes.
Also in nearby Romney is the Davis History House and the Indian Mound Cemetery.
Cumberland and Winchester, less than an hour away, offer historical sites, fine dining, live music, and theater opportunities.
