This bright and cheery cottage is placed directly on the dune of what many describe as the best beach on Nantucket. Like the Native American chief for which it is named, Wauwinet remains steadfast against change. It has valiantly maintained the natural beauty that has attracted visitors to Nantucket for decades and this quaint getaway sits in the center of it all. Read a Summer novel on your private beach or take an afternoon nap in one of the beautifully appointed bedrooms.Perfect for a small family or someone who simply wants to get away to the serenity of the island's east end.
The Wauwinet Inn is located just steps away and offers 5 star lunches and dinners all within walking distance. The internationally acclaimed restaurant, Topper's. celebrates Nantucket's bountiful harvests from the sea and shore and features the distinct, natural flavors of seasonal foods. It has an atmosphere both sophisticated and relaxed, and boasts an award-winning wine cellar that is a long-time recipient of the coveted Wine Spectator's Grand Award.
Bike riding
Just a short distance from the front door is one of the most well maintained bike path roots in the East. Go to town or visit the Quaint village of Siasconsett---all on protected and safe paved bike paths. Or go off roading in the Moors. Just up the Wauwinet road is the famed Nantucket Moors, one of Nantuckets hidden treasures. There are hidden lakes and breathtaking landscapes that have drawn the eyes of artists from around the world.
Winding through these dramatic and picturesque landscapes are hundreds of miles of bike paths. One minute you're darting through the woods in speedy and turning paths. The next you're on top of a knoll with views of the entire island and a sunset that makes a heart ache.
Fishing
Just steps from the deck is one of the most active fishing grounds in the world. In fact, the Wauwinet village was historically a favorite of the island's Native Americans and has been considered a local surfcaster's paradise for decades. All Summer and Fall, Striped Bass make their way back and forth in the teeming Atlantic tides that run just off shore. They are well within surfcasting distance and there is no place more reliable than Wauwinet. In addition, the Wauwinet waters teem with schools of fluke and bluefish, the bluefish offering one of the best fights a fisherman could ever hope for, thrilling both locals and visitors alike.
