We had a great vacation here in July. The cabin itself has beautiful woodwork and stone features with a warm cozy feel. We found it to be perfectly spacious and quite well-designed with things well thought out and in new and good condition. We dealt with the owners by email and telephone, and they were very friendly and responsive. While some of our VRBO stays have not lived up to the photos, this one definitely met or exceeded our expectations. The owners have another house on the property which was unoccupied during our stay so we had complete privacy. The driveway has new gravel and was not a problem at all for our FWD, low clearance car for our summer stay. We found it a great spot for day trips to attractions like Linville Gorge, Grandfather Mountain and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We would definitely recommend and stay again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Better have a good 4x4 if you don't want to walk a 1/4 mile to the cabin. The loft provides no privacy and the living room is about half the size the picture shows. Quite a ways off the beaten path and difficult to find at night.Recommended for: Adventure seekers.
Owner response: This cabin was built across from our family cabin, and was designed to be a quiet, peaceful, getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life that we have enjoyed for years. Many of our visitors have told us they love the relaxing atmosphere and the beautiful mountain views with all the attractions only 15 minutes away. The cabin is in the mountains, but does not require a 4 wheel drive to get to the front porch, unless there is snow on the ground. This is the first complaint we have had regarding the accessibility with a 2 wheel drive vehicle. The pictures were taken inside the cabin with no trick photography, rooms appear as they are, in fact the living area shot is only 1/2 of the actual space . As described on the website, the master bedroom is a loft, which overlooks the fireplace --- is a cozy authentic log cabin with all the modern conveniences , sleeps six comfortably---located in a secluded peaceful mountain setting minutes away from all the attractions.

We booked this cabin the same day we arrived. The owners were so cooperative with our last minute arrangements. It was very clean and everything we needed was there! The kids loved exploring the property and my husband and I enjoyed rocking on the front porch enjoying the spectacular views. The grounds were very private and the interior of the cabin was so authentic and beautiful! We went white water rafting and hiking at Grandfather Mountain which were so convenient to the cabin location. We can't wait to return to the area and definitely plan to stay there again on our next visit!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This cabin is awesome. The cabin is much more beautiful than the picture shows. It's located up on a hill which overlooks mountains and trees. The view is breathtaking. The owners are a great family and very friendly and helpful and were willing to answer any questions. I would definitely recommend this cabin to others and will definitely stay here when I travel to NC. There are many nearby attractions to visit. The ski resorts are just a hop, skip, and a jump away. I highly recommend you try out this beautiful cabin.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: We have a family construction company in Florida and this property has been a vacation retreat for many years. We have recently decided to build cabins in the North Carolina area.
Why the Owner Chose Newland:
We visited the area in 1985 on a family vacation and absolutely fell in love with the area and decided to purchase mountain acreage and built a family vacation cabin. We later decided to develop the property to build future cabins. This is the first cabin that we have built on the property for public use in 2009.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The seclusion of this cabin is unmatched. Access to the cabin is via a private road that is shared by one other cabin. This location is also very close to nearby attractions: ski slopes, hiking, white water rafting, Grand Father Mountain, and shopping. This area is also home to many yearly events: Octoberfest and Roasting of the Pig at Sugar Mountain, the Highland games, the Wooly Worm Festival, etc.
