This way exceeded our expectations. It was even nicer than the photos. It was very very clean and had wonderful amenities. We enjoyed the view everyday. It really felt like a Hawaiian vacation.

It was everything we expected for a "Homeaway!" Private, quiet, close to everything we wanted to do. Most mornings I walked five minutes to the beach for sunrise--I took a hundred or more photos over the week--followed by coffee and a yogurt bowl at Kalapawai Market. Downtown Kailua is just a few blocks the other direction with all types of restaurants, grocery stores, boutiques and services. The unit was clean and well-stocked with everything we needed. Off-street parking is definitely a bonus. This is our third trip to Kailua, but the first where we have had to find our own accommodations. We usually stay with our daughter. The weather this trip was particularly hot and humid, but the windows, fans and air-conditioning helped keep this unit comfortable. The lanai was a great place to relax and enjoy the mountain view. If you want a quiet location away from the non-stop activity in Waikiki, this is definitely the place to consider. We will be back again!

Ron and Sue are great. Close to beach - about 1 1/2 blocks, close to Kailua town, about same distance. Has bikes, kayaks, beach chairs, coolers, towels furnished. Washer and dryer on premises. Gated and very safe. Many windows to allow cool breeze in, has ceiling fan and a/c if needed. All the things for the kitchen you would need are there. Futon and very comfortable queen size bed. I love staying here. Been coming here for over two years, every six weeks.

Directions to unit somewhat hard to understand and would highly recommend arriving during daytime. Notified owner our flight would make us arrive after 10 at night. Arrived after 11:00 PM due to flight delay (not our falult) in a downpour and searched for keys and were not there. Person that finally helped us did not seem to know where keys were or what unit we were to be in and had to call manager. In order to get to room had to navigate a narrow cluttered pathway through 3 locked gates/doors with luggage to get to room. Getting luggage to unit not easy through three locked gates and stairs. Lack of gutters on one section of path got us soaked and arrived in room totally wet. Next day manager knocked on our door in early AM and implied we were in wrong room as another couple was waiting. After giving her our paperwork we did not see her again. Some items that we noticed on arrival; the stairway light not working (safety concern), light out on our bedroom overhead light, no telephone in room (one listed in agreement), never saw the propane barbeque, dryer would not dry clothes. Things that we felt detracted from having a favorable recommendation were the following; three different keys to three different doors/gate to get into our unit, the TV in our unit very small for the distance to viewing, light and fan switches different from normal on/off, parking out front difficult when other unit cars there as not easy to back around to get out from gate, next door neighbors dog barking in early AM 4 days of our 7 days there, and one of the major objections were the people in the unit next to us have to access through our lani to get to their unit (seems poorly arranged, disruptive, and lack of privacy compared to other units with a lani), and we felt intimidated to some extent with the numerous signage of what not to do throughout the unit and house with the threat of fines. We have rented many vrbo in the Islands and mainland and this has been the most intimidating and regulated we have seen. We actually felt very restricted being in the unit and was not the relaxing experience we expected. The view is ok of the mountains but also you have the backyards of other houses and the owner's pool (not useable) below our lani. In general, it was not the experience we were looking for, rating this unit fair at best. If you don't mind the above mentioned negatives and bumps in service then this might be the unit for you but in all honesty not for us.

Owner response: My sincerest apologies that you were unhappy with our home. But thank you very much for your sincere comments. It will definitely help us to make improvements. I understand how arriving in the rain can put a damper on things. We apologized to another guest that it was raining, but they said, 80 degree rain is better than 40 degrees....their glass was happily half full. Thank you for the comments, altho some people are happy with the extra security, I can inderstand your point of view. we will eliminate 1 key, so only 2 will be needed. Thank you for letting us know about the small section with no rain gutter. We will work on a contractors to fix that as soon as possible. Yes, the other unit , A1 must pass by your unit , B1, to get to the stairs. Most people are out all day so it is not too much of a problem. But you may request A1 for more privacy. I'm so very sorry you did not appreciate the mountain view. Most homes have no view at all and to see only mountains and no other homes is quite rare. While it is true that you see other homes, everyone else raves about the view. Again, my sincerest apologies and we will work hard to correct all issues asap. Aloha :-). Don't worry, be happy.

The location of this unit was great, it was a 10 minute walk to town with some awesome restaurants and a 10-15 minute walk to the beach down the road. Very safe to walk around. There were some down sides (maybe personal preference), if you have heavy or a lot of luggage there is a little bit of a challenge to get into the place. You need to go around the side to a gate, unlock the gate, be quiet around the side of the house at night (you are walking past the downstairs units - i believe there are 2 or 3, also prepare to get dripped on from the above air conditioning unit), get to the door at the back, unlock this door, quiet when you enter as you are at the bottom of a staircase which is also a door to one of the units) go up the steps and the door to the unit is here. However there is also a door out to the lanai here - great...except i learned quickly that this is the way the other upstairs unit gets to their front door. This means that the lanai for the bamboo suite is not private as you will have the next door unit walking through your lanai and past your door to get to their place. This caused some extra noise (with doors opening and closing) and voices outside your lanai and front door as well as never wanting to open the blinds that overlook the lanai or use the lanai. The other quirky thing about this place is if you want to run the microwave and hairdryer, or hot plate, or air conditioner you cannot run two of them at once or you will blow a fuse. Dont leave the air on while you are out or you could face an extra fee (green is good), laundry is $2 a load, and there are lots of labeled signs everywhere for instructions of what to do and what not to do, which are helpful but made me feel nervous i was going to violate a rule. One downside...I left everything exactly as i left it (as one should) but was accused of burning the bed liner. After explaining i dont iron i was not charged anything extra, easy and nice communication though. However since i didnt do this, why was it just being caught after i left? Was it not changed before i arrived? I recommend it for the location and if you need a place to stay for a night or two for a reasonable price but I personally would be staying elsewhere even a little further from the beach if i were to visit Kailua again. As a traveler who relies heavily on reviews I want others to be aware of some of these personal touches you may or may not enjoy.

Owner response: Aloha, thank you for your stay. Yes, the entry to this unit is at the back of the house and as our ad says, it is upstairs. But the upside is that, there is a beautiful mountain view. We sad the air cond dripped in that 1 spot, we are working on correcting that. Yes, this unit, b2 has a shared lanai, but usually your neighbor only passes 2x a day, once to leave in the morning and once to return in the evening. The other similar unit, A1 has more privacy as no one passes. Sometimes, many friendly guests enjoy talking to and sharing ideas with the other renter. We apologize for the mistake of the cleaner. We wash everything for each new renter and she didn't realize that was an old burn the other cleaner took care of. We try very hard to keep our guests provided with whatever they need and hope they will be happy with the beautiful view. We appreciate hints to help us make improvements. God bless you. Aloha :-) !

I really miss my morning coffee on the lanai. The last morning I was treated to a breathtaking rainbow above the Koolaus as I sipped my hazelnut kona. Everything we needed was included, which was a nice surprise. No need to lug around shampoo, conditioner, etc. This is the Hawai'i that I dreamed of, and I'm so glad I chose this unit just for the magnificent views from the lanai. Having laundry available was a bonus too, especially for an extended stay with kids :) We loved the location, midway between town and the beach. It was perfect for any activity we wanted to do. It would have been easy to get by without a car, but then we might not have seen some of the amazing things on Oahu. My recommendations: Pupukea Beach, Foster Botanical Garden, the temples of Nuuanu, Maunawili Falls. Amazing memories of the sights, sounds and smells of Hawai'i. Can't wait to come back and stay forever! Improving the lighting situation outside after dark and adding a smoke alarm would make this place perfect (my hubby's a firefighter) This place would not be perfect for someone who has trouble climbing stairs.

We're so happy to be able to share it with you and others! We try to supply most of your needs so you can travel lighter what with luggage fees theses days. Thank you very much for your hints, we take the, to heart. The lighting timer was off, but we have corrected it so the path lights should be illuminating the way :-) ! We have smoke detectors in the rest of the home, but missed that unit. Thanks for pointing that out! It has been installed so you can rest assured next time you come! And be sure to remind me that you're a return visitor, so we can give you your discount, ;-) !

Oh my! What a jewel. I cannot believe they are not charging more for this absolutely fantastic unt. The wife and I spent Easter week 2012 here. Sue and her husband Ron took the best care of us while we were there. The promptly resolved any very minor issues we had with the room during our visit. They were just a phone call away. What great service. The property is immaculent and very well kept. The pictures do not show the great view from the balcony. What a great place to stay.

My husband and I stayed here in '09 and were delighted to see that this apartment is being highlighted. Everything they say about it is true. It is very clean and the owner is very nice. If I had read the bit about Mahjong lessons I would have definitely taken her up on that! We loved our morning hikes to Makapu'u Lighthouse and snorkeling at Hanama Bay. Blazin' Steaks has a really good take-out meal that's not a budget buster. We were very satisfied with our stay and have the best memories from being in Kailua!

Spent 4 days here and it was beautiful. The morning sun on the mountain view was spectacular. Very clean, well stocked with some staples in the cupboard and fridge. Much appreciated. When we overloaded a circuit one morning, the owners had it fixed in just seconds. Very accommodating and would stay here again. Comfortable bed and loved the lanai. Close to the beach and town. Only drawback was the road is quite busy and noisy at night sometimes. Would recommend this to others.

Very clean well maintained rental w/ beautiful view of the mountains. Quite private location on the property. Walking distance to Kailua Beach park, one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, Walking distance to stores and restaurants (highly recommend Beci Bistro in Kailua Town). 20 minute trip over the Pali to Honolulu and 30 minutes to Waikiki, both easy access from Kailua Town. Highly recommend this rental. The only reservations we have are a shared lanai w/ other guests and we prefer to be a little closer to the beach (but it's only 2 blocks).

About the owner: Aloha! We are a laid back couple enjoying life at home in beautiful Kailua. We are busy with our art and dancing classes & 24 Hr. Fitness ( in nearby Kaneohe town, 15 min. Drive.) But we are be happy to share our extensive, life-long knowledge of Hawaii with you. Should you have any questions or needs, just let us know, we're here to help.

                      Why the Owner Chose Kailua:
This is our family home in the best, most convenient location of Kailua, an upscale beachside community. It is famous as one of the Conde Naste top 10 beaches in the world, where Presicent Obama vacations, the new winter white house. It is half way between the beach and the shops and restaurants. We are only 3 blocks, a short leisurely walk to the beach and 3 blocks to Starbucks, Fat Boy's (gourmet, fast food restaurant), Formaggio's wine restaurant, supermarket and other fine shopping, Whole Foods. Down to Earth- vegetarian health food store.

The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
We have an excellent location in a great upscale safe residential neighborhood. Our kids would walk or ride their bikes down to the beach, or 3.5 blocks to the public Olympic size pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, gym and public library. They have volleyball, basketball and badminton free play, just call Kailua Recreation center for days and times. Join the tennis Kailua gang Mon. to Fri. 7:15-9:30am. Just go to courts 1 & 2 and ask to join in. Everyone who comes is welcome. Thursdays 9-10am is the Farmers' Market 2 blks away for local fruits, pineapples, veggies and tropical flowers. This is the best launching spot for the perfect Hawaii vacation.
