Manuel Antonio villa description
Casa del Mar
Located in an exclusive area inside Tulemar, Casa del Mar is a luxurious, 2 story, 2 bedroom retreat nestled into the jungle hillside. It offers panoramic views of the ocean and lush jungle.
The villa is luxuriously furnished and has high end appliances throughout. As you enter through the huge teak door you pass into the over-sized living and kitchen area. There is also a 1/2 bath and a large daybed / TV on this floor. This leads to large wrap-around veranda with stunning view of the ocean and jungle, an outdoor dining area and a jacuzzi tub.
On the lower level are 2 suites, one with 2 queen beds and one with 1 king, luxurious mattresses with European linens and their own terrace. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with stone counters and an indoor and outdoor raindrop shower.
While this privately owned villa may look similar to others, that's where the similarity stops. Upgraded electronics including flat screen TVs, a Bose iPod dock and a private, high-speed wireless Internet system keep you entertained and up-to-date.
You'll also have your own personal concierge — Mauricio! Mauricio (see right) will not only help with your plans and the details of your stay, but he'll make the trip easy and even more fun. Upon your arrival, he'll greet you at the door of Casa del Mar, having filled it with flowers and prepared it with some special surprises just for you.
A unique feature of this casa is its location; on a level area with adjacent parking, easy for those that might have difficulty with steps and ramps leading to the front door.
Use of the four resort pools is included.

It was gorgeous
We called in the morning to reserve a treehouse unit and spoke to the manager Dave. He was going to reserve the smallest one for us (based on our budget) but it took us longer than we thought to get to Manual Antonio. By the time we arrived, someone else had already rented our unit. Luckily for us, Dave was willing to honor the price he quoted for a much more expensive and larger unit. My husband promised to name our first born child after Dave! It was gorgeous, we had a balcony with a hot tub, eating area where we could see the beach and turkey vultures flying around. We had a beautiful unit with two bedrooms, outdoor stone showers, and a lovely kitchen. Tulemar has a private beach area as well. We basically never wanted to leave the property. It's not a conventional hotel as everyone is in their own unit but it was the best accommodations I've ever stayed at in my entire life! The service was great, the property is beautiful and we even got to see some monkeys and sloths on site as well.

Amazing views, phenomenal beach, and plenty to do
I wasn't really sure what to expect as it was my first time in the country. After arriving, however, it became clear that we didn't have anything to worry about. We booked through Dave, and our concierge, Chris, arranged everything for us and was incredibly helpful. Amazing views, phenomenal beach, and plenty to do! I went with friends, and the resort seems more geared toward couples and families, but there is so much to do in the area it wasn't an issue. We went during the rainy season which wasn't that bad, but I'm sure you get a lot more beach time during peak season.

What a great call that wasGuest comment entered by manager
What a great call that was
We were choosing between two hotels in Manuel Antonio (last of 3 stops in CR), and at the last minute my wife suggested we stay at Tulemar. ! This beautifully landscaped and very private, low key compound is built cascading down a hill, ending at the only private beach in Manuel Antonio (for use exclusively by guests). A house account allows you to eat at a pool restaurant or the beach, or have a private chef prepare dinner in your private bungalow or villa. We spent much time at the beach boogie boarding, kayaking, and having lunch served to us under trees where squirrel monkeys were playing above. The bungalow was not only comfortable but had spectacular panoramic ocean views through walls of glass. Tulemar's web site's pictures, if anything, don't do justice to the views, pool area, or restaurant. Each bungalow or villa has a kitchenette so eating every meal out is not a requirement...a real benefit when traveling with kids. Most impressive was the concierge program: Chris Madrigal was assigned to us when we made our reservation, and he went so far beyond the call of duty ... from having fresh flowers in our bungalow when we arrived to arranging activities with specific naturalists and surfing instructors to driving us to the local market to buy snacks and groceries to cook ourselves dinner in our bungalow one evening to showing up with home made chocolates and just in time to save us from ourselves as we tried to order a pizza to be delivered (our kids' request) with our broken Spanish. His personal service on top of a superlative location made our vacation, and allowed us to be as lazy and laid back as the sloths we could see from our living room window. The biggest problem we can report is, with so many places in Costa Rica we haven't yet visited, how we will find a way to spend time at Tulemar on our next trip!

Yup tulemar is a world class vacation for your fam
Remember the TV show Fantasy Island is a resort, where there is very little that the host, Mr. Roarke cannot provide. Thus we have visitors have adventures in fantasies that should be impossible, but this island can accommodate them such as visits to any time period they want, meet absolutely anyone they see to do something they request such as getting William Shakespeare to write a play for them. The only constant (until the final season) was at the sight of the incoming visitors, the Mr. Roarke's midget assistant runs up to the bell tower to ring the bell and shout "De plane!, De plane!" So their is no Mr. Roarke or a midget but the people at the resort are fantastic - Bill, Diego, Chris, the pool staff, the wait staff, the maids, the transportation from the airport and the wonderful gentleman at the beach - professionals in the travel industry. We stayed in upper Villa MotMot -loved it. Yup tulemar is a world class vacation for your family!

I'm still in ah of how amazing this place was.
Came here with my husband and about 10 of his co-workers. We had 3 villas between all of us and have been here for 4 nights. I do NOT want to leave, it's beautiful. The staff here is incredible and it's nice and quite for those who want to relax. Private beach with ALL amenities included and drivers to take you up and down the hill (from villa to beach). The walk in showers were incredible, probably the best shower I've EVER been in (big shower head coming out of ceiling). Shower while watching monkeys jump from trees? What more could you ask for? This place is a must. Worth every cent.

We will definitely go back to TulemarGuest comment entered by manager
We will definitely go back to Tulemar
We spent four nights in a two bedroom villa at Tulemar in early April. I can't say enough nice things about our stay. The service was impeccable, as was the villa and the grounds. For us the best part was the wildlife and the birds. We had monkeys right around our house on several occasions. They were not at all aggressive, and actually let us take pictures as they ate fruit from trees just a few feet away. We will definitely go back to Tulemar at the first opportunity.

We had a two bedroom villaGuest comment entered by manager
We had a two bedroom villa
We had a two bedroom villa and it was out of this world! It was exactly like the picture and we had the best view! We had a ton of monkey sightings, and the beach was gorgeous! Yes there are steep hills to walk up but the units are built on a hill side so what do you expect! You are on vacation so either take the hills slow or call for a shuttle! We opted to walk down and take the shuttle up most days but by the end of the week the hills did get easier! Julien was our concierge and he was very helpful! We booked zip lining, white water rafting, and a Cano Island tour through him and they were all wonderful! We also ate at Agua Azule, El Avelon,, Kapi Kapi, and Ronnie's. I hope I got the spelling correct but they were all yummy! We opted to eat breakfast on our balcony every morning there is a store right across the street but be prepared it is expensive but you are on vacation right?! We also hadrons of fruit and made guacamole but be prepared tortilla chips are like $8 a bag! But like I said you are on vacation right!? I guess if I had to give one complaint because nothing is perfect we only had a couple hangers and even though we requested more a couple times we did not get any....maybe they just didn't have any? So that is the only negative thing I can say! Drinks and food at the beach were reasonable and good just like any other resort Drinks $9 -$11 and most of the items on the menu were we're around $13 on avg. I would suggest buying your alcohol at the airport we forgot but I did bring a couple bottles of champagne from home. It was my favorite vacation yet we try to go to a new destination every year but I so want to go back to Tulemar and we just got home Yesterday!

Chris helped us throughout our stay.Guest comment entered by manager
Chris helped us throughout our stay.
We just completed our second stay in Casa 405, which is located at the "top" of the resort. We love the location for its fabulous view and the ease of walking into the village to go to the restaurants, markets, bank, etc. with our grandchildren. Julien was scheduled to be our concierge but he was busy when we arrived so Chris helped us throughout our stay. He couldn't have been more helpful, meeting all our needs. He was great finding a rental car for us at the last moment that would fit our family of 6 and surfboards and gave many helpful suggestions on what we should do. We love the resort. Our granddaughters would have spent their days at the beach or pool and never left it. But once we got them out, they had a great time on the zip lining tour, horseback riding adventure, etc. that were arranged for us. The house was wonderful. The beds are very comfortable, the outdoor showers fun, and the kitchen well equipped. The maids even washed the dirty clothes we had put in the hampers!

Great ServiceGuest comment entered by manager
We stayed in Manuel Antonio for a few days in late August. We chose Tulemar mainly because of the access to a private beach, something that not many other hotels offered. (The other hotel we had considered was Si Como No which, after stopping in to check it out, decided we were happy with our choice.. Si Como No looked really nice but had more of a resort feel and definitely more kid oriented). The beach was great and even had free boogie boards and kayaks to borrow. The service was fantastic - we didn't plan anything ahead of time and Tulemar took care of all of our last minute reservations. We took their advice to try the white water rafting trip and it was one of my all-time best vacation experiences. There was some sweet wildlife on the property.. we saw monkeys, sloths and a huge iguana. The cabins are very charming and felt pretty private, hidden away in the trees. Also..We had to rebook our dates twice due to some bad planning on our part.. Tulemar was very gracious and understanding. Really great experience.

We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom Buena VistaGuest comment entered by manager
We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom Buena Vista
We just returned from a family vacation ( 2 adults, 2 teenagers 17 and 18) to Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom Buena Vista premium villas which is simply incredible. Very clean, comfortable and well appointed with all the comforts of home. It had the most breath taking views I have ever seen. In addition, we saw monkeys in the trees almost every morning. We were very lucky to have Julien as our concierge. He was available by e-mail to answer our many questions from the day we booked the villa. He pre-arranged our tours prior to our arrival, which I recommend by the way, as they do fill up. So,once we got there there wasn't too much we needed but Julien checked in with us at least daily to see if there was anything he could do for us. It was always a pleasure to hear from him. He helped with dinner reservations and brought us chocolate (yummy) and a bottle of champagne on New Years Eve. We asked him to come to the villa to take some family pictures for us one afternoon and he did so happily. He was terrific. We ate at the beach restaurant several times and enjoyed the food very much each time. The tradition breakfast our first morning was delicious as was the Mahi-Mahi sandwich at lunch. Luiz and his staff were great. The bar tender was friendly and we loved the frozen drinks. Green Paradise and Buena Vista breeze our personal favorites. We ate at only 2 local restaurants as we bought groceries and enjoyed eating on the balcony enjoying the view as much as going out. We ate at Victorias and Agua Azul, both excellent and very close. It was not an issue for us that there is no restaurant for dinner on the Tulemar property as there are many choices very nearby. We did order pizza one night from Victorias and they delivered right to our door and it was really good. The beach is just outstanding, sandy and the warmest water we have ever been swimming in. We took out the free kayaks a couple of times, used the snorkeling gear and boogie boards. Never had a problem getting chairs. David at the beach was great too, setting up chairs, umbrellas and getting kayaks ready for us. I really can't say enough about this amazing place. We felt very well taken care of and enjoyed ourselves beyond our wildest dreams. We loved the Manuel Antonio area and are already thinking about when we can go back. I would not even consider staying anywhere else. It is simply the best. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a stay at Tulemar.
