Cape Cottage is located in 'Holiday Hills', near the Virginia Dare Marina and close to the State Park. This is the best location on the lake with no steps to the dock. The water right off the dock is perfect for swimming, boating and all water sports. Great for the entire family, this cottage is a favorite with kids who love the large water trampoline, teens love the location on the lake for water sports and families love the beach volleyball court. Fisherman find our cove to be the lake's best for morning fishing.
The great dock is furnished with lounge chairs and an umbrella table and chairs.
The house is located mid-way between the Smith Mountain Lake Dam and Bridgewater Plaza, between markers R-20 and R-22.
The cottage itself is fresh, clean and newly decorated with designer touches in every room. Beautiful hardwood floors greet you upon walking in to the open space great room. On the main level is an open kitchen w/breakfast bar, great room w/Dish TV, dining room, Master Bedroom and Master Bath. Sliding doors from the great room and Master Bedroom open onto a beautiful sunporch that overlooks the lake. What a great place to stay! The house has lots of personality. I especially loved the screened in porch which faces the lake. It was great sitting on the porch watching the sun go down and looking out at the beautiful lake. I also found the house very clean and well equipped. It looks like it was very recently remodeled. The lot is fairly flat which makes it so easy to go back and forth from the rebuilt dock to the house. I would definitely book another stay at this very lovely house.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

This is our second memorial day weekend at your place. A great way to kick off the summer! The house is clean and cozy. The dock is great and the kids really enjoy the water trampoline! When they tired of the water they played a few games of volleyball. Thanks again for sharing your place with us! Thanks for the use of your home! It was clean, convenient, and perfect for our small group. The oversized dock was a huge plus and, from looking around, the relatively flat land was a great benefit! The lake itself was beautiful - although during the day with all of the boats it was more like an ocean which made the no-wake cove even more enjoyable for the kids. Overall great stay at a wonderful house.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.

The Cape Cottage had everything we needed and more to make our recent trip comfortable and convenient! The home is situated on a beautiful cove and has easy access to the Smith Mountain Lake State Park where we launched out boat. The long enclosed porch overlooking the beautiful waters of the lake is where we spent many evenings. The lounging area on the party dock was also great! The sand volleyball court, horseshoes, fire pit, and water trampoline offered many onsite activities that were free and entertaining after a busy day of boating, skiing, and fishing on the lake. The owner was easy to work with and very conscientious about returning emails and phone calls. The home was clean and well-stocked with the basics that anyone would need. We used this home as a second property because we had rented a larger home right down the road and needed a place for the "overflow" of friends and family. It worked out perfectly all the way around! I would highly recommend the Cape Cottage to anyone looking for a nice "home away from home" that is reasonably priced. We plan on going back!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Late September '08 and '09 we spent an extended weekend at this wonderful cottage as a reunion with our children and grandchildren. What fun we had on the trampoline, water skis and jet skies that could be rented at nearby facilities ( my son took his own boat and ski equipment and put-in at a site close to the cottage). We took picnics on our boat and had meals at restaurants where we docked the boat. We played games and puzzles that were available to us to keep evenings occupied but dishTV was available for those dye-hard viewers. Personally, we appreciated the huge bedroom and bath on the first floor as we are in our late 70's and avoid stairs where possible. We love our home in Florida but cant say enough about this area at Smith Mountain Lake. This house was immaculate and the rooms beautifully decorated. You cant go wrong if you rent here!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

What a great vacation home to spend a long, relaxing weekend. It was the beginning of October and everything there was beautiful. The cottage was very clean and well equipped, you felt at home as soon as you arrived. It is close to food stores and restaurants. We went to the shopping mall and there were some very cute souvenir shops. It was a little cool for swimming but the lake was very tempting. We took a boat ride around the lake at sunset, it was a great time. We can't wait to return in the summer so that we can swim in the lake. Thanks, PatDid you find this review helpful? My family and I stayed at the Cape Cottage in early October 2009. We had a great time fishing on the lake and my husband caught several nice size fish. We even bought ice cream from the Ice Cream Float (which my daughter loved). The house was just as described in the ad and exceeded our expectations. The area surrounding the lake has several nice restaurants and cute shops to check out. We are looking forward to returning in the summer to enjoy swimming in the lake and in the fall again to relax. This was a great way to spend time with the family and we have already recommended it to our friends and family. Thanks Steve and Cheryl for introducing us to this beautiful lake.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

About the owner: Cheryl and Steve Wilhide of Ellicott City, Maryland found that Smith Mountain Lake was the perfect vacation spot. Friends of ours at the lake convinced us to look at property and we were sold! We wanted a place we could vacation with our family and share our house with others as well.
Why the Owner Chose Moneta:
Cape Cottage is located on a quiet cove, near shopping, gas, marinas and other lake conveniences. We are in a deep water cove, meaning that we can always navigate our boat in and out, even if the lake level is low. Yet, we are in a NO WAKE cove, which assures that our children can swim safely right off the dock.
