Year Purchased: 2007

My husband and I have been traveling to the Bahamas for several years. In 2007 we traveled to Hope Town for the first time and fell in love with the Abacos. We purchased Lavender Cottage before our vacation was over! Then came the long, slow renovation. We visit Hope Town as often as we can. We go down by ourselves, with our daughters (8 & 10) and with friends. We feel Hope Town is so safe our children are allowed to roam by themselves!! We spend a lot of time on the water - flyfishing in the Marls (in nearby Marsh Harbor), kayaking, snorkeling or just swimming from our garden. We tool around town on a golf cart and take the girls to Tahiti Beach for seashells. There is always something to do. Hope Town is a wonderful place to visit. Maureen & Evan, Norwalk CT

Why the Owner Chose Hopetown

We chose to buy in Hope Town for several reasons. Our first priority was safety for our children and we are very comfortable with them going off to explore by themselves. Secondly there is a lot of things to do, both on and off the water. Third, the Abacos are beautiful and Hope Town Settlement is unique.

    • I couldn't say enough about Lavender Cottage, Hopetown and the Collins family. Lavender Cottage has the perfect location and all the special touches you could ask for. Right on the harbor entrance, you can watch the boats come and go. A different sunset over the lighthouse every night. Lay by the pool, kayak to town, grilled fish & wine on the deck? so hard to decide. You'll never find a place like Hopetown. We went scuba diving and met a couple who'd been coming for 9 years to different cottages and never once been given a key! No one locks their doors there. So relaxed....you can always find an empty 'post card' beach for yourselves. Our hosts were terrific. The Collins gave us great tips on what to do and where to go. They have obviously taken great care to make sure the cottage has everything you'll need and more. A truly special island AND home.
