PREPARE TO BE ENCHANTED! Imagine yourself high on a cliff with the Pacific Ocean stretching before you as far as you can see. Below you on one side is Playa Cau Cau, a pristine crescent beach, untouched in its natural beauty and protected by mountains and forests. On the other side is another beach crowded with small wooden fishing boats and rows of restaurants serving the freshest seafood in the world. Here lies Horcon, a small traditional Chilean fishing village with its colorful houses climbing the hillsides above. This village is the home of fishermen, artists and craftsmen whose traditions are as old as Chile itself.

A TYPICAL DAY IN PARADISE: In the mornings, sit on the terrace with your coffee and watch the small wooden fishing boats go past you out to sea. Enjoy the condominium amenities or walk the beautifully landscaped grounds with winding trails and breathtaking ocean views in every direction. Then stroll down to the secluded beach for a walk or swim. In the early afternoon, wander down to Horcon and watch the boats return, full with the day’s catch of conger, crabs and clams. Watch as the boats are pulled onto the beach by two huge Percheron horses, and eat the freshest seafood in the world while you sip your pisco sour at one of Horcon’s many quaint restaurants. After you eat, you can visit the numerous booths offering jewelry and handcrafts made by Horcon’s local artists.

In the evenings, grill and eat your supper on the spacious terrace while watching the most beautiful ocean sunsets imaginable. Feel the gentle breezes blowing to the sound of the crashing waves below, while lights from the hillsides begin to dot the distant mountains and a million stars glitter the night sky.

Welcome to paradise! It's magical - it will change you - you won't want to leave.

CONDOMINIUM FACILITIES: In addition to the wonders of the natural scenery and local culture, the condominium community itself offers many amenities. You enter the property through the community gates (24 hour security). The spacious grounds are beautifully landscaped with flowering plants in a riot of colors cascading down the sides of the cliff. There are numerous trails and lighted walkways with commanding views in every direction that are magnificent to walk either day or night.

The thatched-roof clubhouse offers a restaurant, bar and free WiFi (open on holidays and throughout the summer rental season). Centrally located on the grounds is a children’s playground, a large outdoor pool, gymnasium complete with jacuzzi and sauna, an outdoor picnic area with charcoal grills, plus tennis courts and a soccer field. Unlike the constricted condo developments in Vina, this is a serene, protected place where children can roam freely throughout the spacious grounds. Our rental manager lives nearby and will greet you with the keys and show you your accommodations.

AREA ATTRACTIONS, VINA DEL MAR: If you get the urge to go mall shopping or have a night of casino fun, Vina del Mar is a short 35 minute drive via the winding coastal road through some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable. Vina is Santiago’s playground and has all the amenities of a modern coastal city with shopping, dining, parks and beaches.

VALPARAISO: Add another 15 minutes and you’re in the historical port city of Valparaiso, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today the city has undergone a rebirth with the glorious mansions of old restored and gourmet restaurants everywhere. With a terrain much like that of San Francisco, multicolored homes and Victorian mansions cling to sheer cliffs and shelter a maze of narrow cobblestone passageways that are like walking back through time. Valparaíso has spawned generations of international poets, writers, and artists who have found inspiration in the city, including the Nobel Prize-winning poet Pablo Neruda, whose home you can tour.

You can ride the funiculars (steeply inclined cable cars that are both thrilling and nerve wracking) which carry you to the city’s oldest sections. Here you will find a surprise around every corner with quaint shops and gigantic wall murals painted by local artists that range from colorful, to humorous to surreal. The colonial architecture, historic monuments, commanding views and air of vibrancy make Valparaiso all but irresistible for the tourist.

WINE COUNTRY: You're never far from a winery in Chile, but as our guest you will be quite close to one of our favorite wine areas, Aconcagua Valley. It makes for a memorable day trip and we highly recommend it. The Aconcagua Valley, located about an hour’s drive north of Santiago and one hour east of Cau Cau Beach, is known for its Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Chile's emblematic grape, Carmenere. And on a clear day you can see the stunning peak of Aconcagua which gives the valley its name. At nearly 23,000 feet it's the highest peak in the western hemisphere! Wineries which can be visited include Errazuriz, Von Siebenthal or San Esteban.

PLANNING A SKI VACATION? Chile is a country for all seasons! As summer melts the snow in the Northern Hemisphere, skiers head south to the world-class ski slopes of Central Chile’s Andes Mountains. Ski season runs mid-June to September (perfect for family ski vacations), and many of the best ski resorts (Quillota, Portillo, La Parva, Farellones, El Colorado & others) are no more than one and a half hours from Cau Cau Beach. For the perfect vacation, head to the Pacific coast before or after your ski adventure and be our guest!

NO HABLA ESPAÑOL? No hay problema! We highly recommend our good friend and guide, Ricardo, to be your personal assistant! A university English professor in Santiago, Ricardo is a qualified, delightful guide for weekend tours of Santiago, Vina and Valparaiso, or to assist you with transportation arrangements, shopping, information needs or emergency help. Let us know if you would like to contact him for his services.

Pacific Paradise, Cau Cau Beach, Horcon, Chile

Year Purchased: 2005

Why the Owner Chose Vina Del Mar

How does one come to buy a home in Chile? You fall in love! For me, it was during my first trip to Chile in July of 2005. I was visiting my son who had recently moved to Santiago to teach English in a university there. He was excited to take me to what he called his "favorite beach in Chile." After a beautiful drive from Santiago through vineyards, orchards and mountains, we arrived at Playa Cau Cau. I was totally awed by the rocky coastline and its pristine beauty! After a fabulous lunch of fresh seafood at the Caballo de Mar restaurant (which is right on the beach), we walked the shore to the sounds of crashing waves and squawking seagulls. I let out a deep sigh and with it went all the cares of the world! Glancing up toward the cliff above us, I noticed the condominium buildings there perched high over the Pacific. A chill ran down my spine! Somehow I managed to talk our group into "going up there and having a look around." As fate would have it, the original builder of the project had saved the premier two units for himself, combined them, and now they were for sale! I gasped as I went out on the balcony and saw the Pacific Ocean stretching out before me and all of Cau Cau Beach nestled below. I was in love! I was home. By my second trip in October, I was the new owner. And now I can't stay away for more than three or four months at a time. Don't get me wrong, Florida is beautiful, and I live in Orlando - the world's playground. But the call of this special place is irresistible. It calms the spirit and heals the soul. I gladly open my home to you so that you can share this exceptional experience with those you love. I think you will agree that it changes you forever. ¡Celebre vida!

The Unique Benefits at this Condo

Located only 35 minutes north of Vina del Mar (but without Vina's traffic, congestion and beach crowds), it's easy to take occasional day trips into Vina via the scenic coastal road for mall shopping, sight seeing, casino fun and fine dining. And don't forget to visit the world heritage city of Valparaiso with it's historic buildings, monuments, huge wall murals painted by gifted artists, and the old city sections accessible by cable elevators. From the Santiago International Airport, Condominio Cau Cau is approximately an hour and forty-five minutes (154 kms) traveling northwest on Ruta 5 North, connecting to Ruta F-20 West. Or upon arriving, take Ruta 68 West to Vina del Mar (about an hour and fifteen minutes), enjoy the city, get your groceries and supplies if staying awhile, then take the spectacular winding coastal road that connects to Ruta F-30 and Condominio Cau Cau. Additional information can be found on our website - ask for details.

Owner's Map of Vina Del Mar

Hola! ¿Cómo está usted? This is a photo of me on our terrace in front of one of the outrageously beautiful Pacific sunsets that occur almost every night over Cau Cau Beach. Although I live in Florida, my heart is here. This is indeed a magical place with magnificent views and numerous amenities. We want you to enjoy your stay and have special memories of your time here. Not just a rental property, this is our much loved second home and we've taken special care to make it attractive and comfortable. In our opinion, it’s the most beautiful place on earth!
