Location: Patzcuaro, Michoacan de Ocampo, Mexican Riviera, Mexico (40 Mins. from Morelia, 3 Hours from Guadalajara, or Beach,)
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths (Sleeps 6)
The house is located -driving time- about 10 minutes from the historic Colonial town of Patzcuaro, Michoacan, Mexico. Google it and find out more! It is on it's own property, 1000 sq meters on a slope over looking the Lake Patzcuaro region. Spectacular views of the forested mountains and volcanoes make for an exciting yet relaxing daily experience. The house is situated in a complex of about 25 homes in a gated area. The neighbors are friendly and might engage you in a morning walk, bird watching, or just a nice chat.
The decor of the house is a combination of traditional Mexican: clay tile floors, natural wood beams, plaited wood shake ceilings, cantera stone fireplace, and contemporary: large seamless plate windows, plain brushed white walls, open space with lots of light, contemporary blown glass accents. In the 6 months I lived there I rarely closed the windows and enjoyed fresh air all day and night. Contrary to many beliefs central Mexico is not necessarily hot, here we rarely see 90 F in the summer and the humidity is non existent, dramatic and quick thunderstorms are the summer norm. Winter nights flirt with frost but usually rise to about 70 F during the day, as well winter is our dry season.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2003
My name is Rick Davis and I live in Patzcuaro, Michoacan, Mexico. I came here from the San Francisco Bay Area about 6 years ago and I thank myself daily for having made the switch. This area is in the heart of the Colonial and Arts centers of Central Mexico. The people, culture, food, and natural beauty are amazing. I enjoy day and overnight trips in the high country here, but it is only a 3 hour dive to the beach as well. For culture and a fix of Big City I go to either Morelia (a little bit of Europe) 40 mins., or to Guadalajara 3.5 hours. Patzcuaro is presently celebrating its 475 anniversary, a town of about 50,000 it is 'just right'. Being a little young to have retired I am perusing creative business ideas.
Why the Owner Chose Patzcuaro
I have my home in the center of Patzcuaro just 10 mins. away and in the center of the old Colonial era town. The rental property is in the country and it makes for a perfect overflow house for friends and family. This area is incredibly rich in history, the Purepecha people settled here about AD 1150, then came the Spanish about 1525. There are pyramids left from the pre Hispanic era and the town is one of Mexico's Pueblo Magicos. The architecture of town dates from Spanish Colonial era. This area is still populated by the Purepecha people and their arts are world class in mediums of pottery, weaving, wood carving, and copper work to list but a few. Although the arts of a thousand years are alive and well we have all the benefits of today. I can jump on the freeway and restock at Costco, go online on a higher speed than I had in he U.S., this after watching CNN international on cable. As if all of this weren't enough throw in the pine forested mountains, high elevation lakes, nearness to the Pacific beaches, and well, yes, its pretty much ideal. I recommend this area highly for a relaxing get away, but even more for those families that would like to expose their children to different cultures, sights, and ways of life.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Although I now live in Patzcuaro Centro I spent 6 months of last year at the Corazon de Durazno house. It was a charmed life indeed. I had high speed internet wireless service and decided not to put in a satellite sys. for TV. Somehow even though the house is so quiet and tranquil never lacked for things to do and never missed TV. Morning walks in the neighborhood, food shopping in the mercado, cooking, art shows, festivals, day trip exploring, or just hanging out on the terrace watching the bird show and reading, these were the pleasures that occupied the day. For those who need more physical action there is a gym complex just down the road to Patzcuaro with swimming, spin, weights, etc. There is also an excellent Spanish school here in town, CELEP. Many of the neighbors are X Pat Americans so that help and friendship are nearby.
