I had the pleasure of a week at Hale Ohana on the gorgeous Mauna Kea Resort. It was luxurious and well cared for. The beds and sheets were sumptuous. the space in the family kitchen area that opened to the outdoor bbq and dining area were perfect for our group of 8 to eat meals together inside or out. Sunset from the deck was incredible, where we played games and cards after dinner. You are in the middle of a spectacular Robert Trent Jones golf course. the owner knew everything to do and perfect placse to go and eat or visit. We liked to take a morning walk on a lovely path along the course and secluded coves, perfect for a private dip in the Pacific recommended by the owner! Snorkeling was incredible in the Mauna Kea bay, we saw a Manta ray, about 8 feet across in the lights at night. In the water there were more fish and turtles than I'd ever experienced. This was my second trip, longer than the first, we truly got to experience a lot of the Island. Ditch Adventure Kayaking and Helicopter rides and a trip to Akaka Falls were all nearby. I could go on, this is a dream spot. the climate was perfect and temps were 72 to 85 not humid, perfect for water sports and a hawaiian adventures. we ate at several of the local restaurants and shops which were great and the buffet brunch at Mauna Kea was delightful. Dolphin Quest was close, we saw the dolphins in their lagoons that ranged from 1 month to 41 years old, totally cool. We will plan to go again!! Don't miss the chance to experience this place..Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Everything about this property is absolutely incredible. Having access to the Mauna Kea resort is a nice perk, but with the amenities available at this residence, you might not want to leave! A private pool gives you views of the ocean, but the lush landscaping makes you feel like you are at a secluded retreat. The home itself is furnished with large groups and entertaining in mind - multiple large seating areas (indoor and outdoors), four bedrooms with 3.5 bathrooms, makes traveling with a family or larger group uber comfortable yet still upscale. An outdoor shower is a nice treat to clean off after the beach and before jumping into the pool or jacuzzi. Anything you could desire while on vacation is at your fingertips. High end finishes, decor, and furniture really make this vacation all the more luxurious.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.

What a wonderful place. I stayed for a week with my very spry 89 year old aunt and two twenty year olds. A sumptious house with everything you need. The Mauna Kea's ammenities, and spectacular beach were perfect for both young and old alike. We loved the beds, the bedrooms are very quiet. The deck and view are specatular for the sunset, and great for outdoor eating. Very well appointed kitchen, wonderful flat screen TV. What a treat to stay in such a great house!Recommended for: Girls getaway, people with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We couldn't ask for a more lovely, spacious and comfortable house for our week on the big island. A great location and easy walk to the Mauna Kea amenities, short drive to shopping and dining, The kitchen and pantry were well stocked and we even found a decently challenging jigsaw puzzle. Great snorkeling and diving - our favorite was a chartered swimming with spinner dolphins.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Hale Ohana - welcome to Hawaii the way it should be experience. A number of factors make Hale Ohana the best vacation house we've ever visited. 1) Logistically, it is a breeze to make reservations, coordinate arrival, get passes for the resort, etc. The people managing the property are professional and so very friendly. You feel the Aloha spirit even before you leave home. 2) The house is a short, pleasant drive from the airport. It is also close to some worthwhile sightseeing spots like the black sand beach and a lush forest scenic drive. A large shopping mall, a number of restaurants, and a grocery store are also just a few minutes away. Best of all, the beach is right there. 3) The house itself is absolutely beautiful and yet comfortable. Everything from the couches, to the beds, to the patio furniture says come lounge and relax. And, although there are neighboring houses, the structure of the house and the greenery make you feel like you have the island all to yourself. The pool and sauna are an added luxury, considering - as mentioned above - the beach is right there. The full kitchen and grill are perfect for group breakfasts, casual bbq lunches, or gorgeously romantic dinners in front of a beautiful sunset with a sky filled with more stars than you could imagine. 4) The view will make you wish you could paint. Imagine a pool in the forefront, followed by lush green golf range grass, and an endless expanse of ocean and sky beyond that. The sunrises and sunsets are awe-inspiring. Although I'm an avid reader, I often set my book down just to gaze at the view - absolutely remarkable. 5) The resort is world-class - from the grounds, to the service, to the spa (especially the massages and facials). And, the beach - soft sand, clear water, gentle rolling waves - beauty and relaxation exemplified. At a bit of a loss to describe the feeling of one of the prettiest beaches in Hawaai. If only I could be on a lounge chair with a mai tai right now... it would definitely be at the Hale Ohana.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Hale Ohana is the only place we stay in Kona. The home is spacious, clean, modern and comfortable. Plenty of room to spread out when we have a large group. Close to shopping areas and restaurants. Plus access to all of the wonderful beach amenities at the Mauna Kea resort, all within walking distance. We hope to return soon!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, people with disabilities, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We stayed at Hale Ohana for 8 days in early September. The house, location and amenities are fantastic. While this is not an over the top $30M home, it is extremely nice with lots of space for a large family, or a couple of smaller families. Great kitchen, beautiful bathrooms, large living room. After spending the day at the beautiful Mauna Kea beach, we would often relax at the pool to enjoy the sunset. You are close to great dining in Kahala, Waimea, Kona etc - we enjoyed this often. Some favorites were Merriman's Waimea, Pahu I'a at the Four Seasons and Manta at the Mauna Kea. However, the house is perfectly suited for cooking amazing meals on site to enjoy on the deck with a view of the Pacific. You are a decent downhill walk to the beach (15 minutes down the hill), with a fairly steep walk back home. However, since the home includes (at a small additional charge) full privileges at the Mauna Kea resort, we typically drove the 2 minutes to the free parking at the hotel. We have been to Hawaii about 20 times, visiting all of the islands, and the Mauna Kea beach is certainly one of the very best. Not a big surfing beach, but great for all other activities - snorkeling, swimming, paddle board, smash ball, frisbee, etc. I ran the route from the house to the Mauna Kea then to Hapuna and up under the highway and back around to the house. Challenging with significant elevation changes, and great views. We were at the house with our two teenage kids and one of their friends. They all loved the area and especially the space and activities at the house. Comfortable beds! The property manager was extremely helpful, and was immediately responsive if we had any questions. We will definitely be back.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
