Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Keywords: Farmhouse in secluded valley in Lourmarin
A paradoxical get-away. 'Le Bastidon du Coco' seems to be deep in the countryside, yet, in reality, it is just outside the charming and busy village of Lourmarin. With plenty of room for up to six people, Le Coco is very secluded, and has its own sizable swimming pool and extensive grounds. This modern house, recently built around an old stone ‘cabanon’, was originally a hunters cabin and shepherds refuge. This is an ideal place for people who enjoy peace and quiet.
The setting is spectacular. With 360° views, southwards over gently rolling countryside dotted with vineyards, orchards, and meadows and northwards over the valleys and woods of the Luberon mountain range. Yet this haven of tranquility is less than ten minutes' walk from the shops, restaurants and art galleries that make Lourmarin one of the most sought-after destinations in Provence.
Le Coco is beautifully planned and furnished, with a stunning combination of modern design and traditional Provencal accessories. It is extremely comfortable, and has all the facilities you need to make your stay here carefree. The pool, at a little distance from the house, is designed to fit harmoniously into the natural surroundings, and shares the same great views as the house.

Why the Owner Chose Lourmarin
This property has been in Joelle's family for several generations. In 2007 we took the decision to expand this stone shepherd's cottage which now is the heart of a modern country house.

My husband and I stayed at the Bastidon du Coco this past September, 2011. The owners, Christophe and Joelle met us at the property and showed us around the lovely house and grounds. They are charming and helpful people who made us feel at home immediately. The house is beautifully maintained and impeccably clean and comfortable. The owners live only a few kilometers away and were very helpful about offering directions and materials about the sights in the area. The little village of Lourmarin is delightful and not overrun with tourist buses--yet! The little crepe restaurant there, and the Pizzeria Nonni are among the many little casual dining places only 5 minutes away from the house in the village of Lourmarin. The Restaurant L Antiquaire is wonderful for a bit more formal meal. The house itself is perfect for cooking and dining in as well! Christophe is a professional landscape designer and the grounds reflect that--the lavender, the grapes, and herbs and fruit are lovely. The pool is perfect for relaxing. In all the house is far enough away from other homes and villages to be quiet and peaceful; the views of the countryside there are lovely, and the house would be perfect for a family with a couple of children or two couples. We enjoyed our stay at Bastidon du Coco and would return!

We stayed at the Bastidon du Coco in late April and it was absolutely wonderful. The house is lovely, secluded and comfortable. Christophe, who is a very conscientious and gracious host, has done a fantastic job renovating the house so that it maintains its traditional charm, but at the same time is elegant, modern, and has everything you might want. The yard is secluded, the view is inspiring, and the pool is very nice. In late April the fields were not in bloom yet, but it was sunny and warm, and we actually swam in the pool a couple of times. It was a perfect respite from the chill, rain, and hubub of Paris. The house is about 2 km from Lourmarin, which deserves its reputation as one of the most beautiful towns in Provence. There is lots to do - a very nice hike in the Luberon starts in Lourmarin, and there are interesting sights within an hour's drive in every direction. We were there five days and spent one of them doing nothing all day in the house and by the pool. It was a great vacation!

My wife and I loved the relaxing week we spent here! What a wonderful hiatus between our weeks in London and Paris! We stumbled on this rental by accident, and are so glad we did. The photos convey the home's impecible interior design, but they do not do the location justice. The home is at the end of a shared driveway and commands a stunning view of vineyards, fields and mountains. You can only see two other homes from the property, a mile across the valley. The home, gardens and pool are completely private, with three different outdoor dining areas and a barbeque grill. The home is a renovated expansion of an old stone and beam farmhouse. It is a perfect combination of rustic and contemporary, with flat-screen televisions in each bedroom and high-speed internet access. The huge kitchen has a soaring ceiling and a farmhouse dining table, and the adjacent living room has a large flat-screen television and a wall of sliding windows that open the room to the garden and one of the outdoor seating areas. The bedrooms are comfortable and all the home's appointments are brand new. The property surrounding the home and its three-acre grounds is all fields of grass and wildflowers, with vineyards below. We cooked about half of our meals in the well-appointed kitchen, using fresh herbs from the garden; we swam in the nude every day; and we slept like babies every night! Town is a little far to walk, but a comfortable distance on a bicycle or a short drive. We were fortunate to be one of his first guests, and Christophe was charming, gracious, and appropriately proud of his home. We feel very fortunate to have discovered this property, without which our vacation in the Luberon would not have been the same. I'm almost reluctant to share our secret with the world! One little anecdote: we had pizza at Nonna's one evening (a great, simple meal in a perfect setting beside a burbling fountain in Lourmarin's secondary square) and seated at the next table was Mr. Provence himself, Peter Mayle! Thank you, Christophe, for making our visit the perfect week in Provence!
