Welcome to my family home; a light filled architect designed modern home from the 1960's. It is located on a quiet cul-de-sac on 3 acres of land. A short walk brings you to Quonchontaug Pond. The home is long and rambling, so that all parties residing at the property, which sleeps 10, have space for privacy or may gather in the large spacious living area, where the soap stone wood burning stove will warm you on a cool evening.
The outdoor terrace, with a view over peaceful woods and the sound of birds and the ocean, is provided with a large table that seats 12, and a gas BBQ grill.
Our home is located in the scenic area of Westerly, RI, offering opportunities for nature lovers, beach goers, golfers, and those just looking for a quiet place to enjoy the sites and sounds of a New England ocean community.
Westerly is located halfway between New York City and Boston on the southern tip of Rhode Island, bordering the southeastern corner of Connecticut. It is easily accessable by rail to the beautifully restored Amtrak station downtown, by car via interstate 95, or by air to T.F. Green Airport (40 minutes away).
The Native American name for Westerly was Misquamicut; a place for taking salmon. In 1669 Westerly was incorporated. For a short period, 1686 to 1689, it was known as Haversham. There is still a small section of Westerly called Haversham where our family´s home is located. For many years Westerly's quarries were well known for their pink granite. With its seven miles of sandy beaches it has long been a popular vacation destination. In 2002, the National Trust for Historic Preservation named Westerly as one of the 12 Most Distinctive Destinations in the country, with its unique, well preserved, architecture downtown, and 55 historic sites. Money Magazine has voted South County Rhode Island as one of the top 12 Vacation Spots in North America!
After breakfast in our cheery dining room or outside on the peaceful terrace you might like to put on your water shoes and take a walk down to Quonchontaug Pond to explore the sealife, or head to Misquamicut for a long walk along the beach. Or visit Watch Hill or Historic Downtown Westerly, each only 5 minutes away. Mystic, with its Seaport and Aquarium are just 15 minutes away. Or take a day trip to Block Island, crossing the water from Point Judith on a high speed or traditional ferry. Whatever you choose, you are sure to enjoy your stay in Rhode Island.
