Our wonderful English speaking agent Giuseppe Dini meets you at the town car park (free parking) and escorts you through the 12th Century town gate to our apartment just within the walls. No steps to climb as you walk into the living room with a modern kitchen and dining section.

There are two beautiful leather covered reclining chairs from which you watch the sun rise over the Appenine mountains and light up the fertile valley of the Tiber.

You go down a short staircase to the bedroom with 2 single beds (or one double bed) with under floor heating for winter use. Beautiful Italian tiles lead into an attractive modern bathroom with shower, bidet, basin and toilet.

From the bedroom double doors lead out to a mile long broadwalk on top of the walls that surround the city: the views are astounding. Our housekeeper Fiametta lives in an adjacent apartment; she is unfailingly helpful in case of any problems. Anything she cannot solve will be dealt with quickly by our agent Giuseppe.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2007

My twin sister and I recognized a fantastic opportunity to create a brand new apartment out of available space in the lower level of our building. We love restoring old buildings, and like to fit all modern facilities without changing the historical authenticity of the place. Since we now own three apartments in the same building, we have been able to arrange wonderful family gatherings at Christmas, Easter and in the Summer. We find any time of the year has its own special rewards. My husband Andrew was simply amazed when he saw what we had created.

Why the Owner Chose Anghiari

We chose to buy in Anghiari because this this 800 year old on the Tuscany/Umbrian borders has earned its place in the Italian register of "The 100 Most Beautiful small Towns of Italy". We have fond this to be true; it is completely un-spoilt, and the mayor keeps his town spotlessly clean and well maintained. Those who live in Anghiari are exceptionally friendly to Americans because so many of them have family members living in the USA or the UK. Anghiari is truly a wonderful place to walk around; no cars because inside the medieval walls the streets are just wide enough for walkers and bicyclists. There are two museums, 4 medieval churches, six good restaurants, four pizza bars, four coffee shops, four bars and all the interesting antique and art shops you could want. On Wednesdays the local people set up a market for locally produced wine, cheese, meats and vegetables. There are regular buses to bigger towns nearby like Sansepulchro and Arezzo, where you can get a fast train to Florence and be in the heart of that great city in 50 minutes, or Rome in 90 minutes. hre in 50 minutes.

The Unique Benefits of this Condo

Living in a medieval city is a unique experience; you step back 800 years, and find yourself living in the world of Dante and Boccacio. Think of it; St. Thomas of Canterbury lived on the same street you will live on, and died a martyr on the steps of Canterbury Cathedral when he left the sanctuary of Anghiari. NI so many places you have to drive somewhere to see history; here you are living inside the medieval walls where no cars disturb you; it is totally safe to wander alone night and day. When the morning sun steams through the shutters the first person to get up wanders 500 yards down the street to collect oven warm croissants baked that very morning. Cafes wit superb Italian coffee are just minutes away; since you walk, you never have parking problems. I like to cook the fresh provision the farms bring in every day, but I also love to try the different Tuscan dishes in the restaurants, or even take Italian cooking lessons just up the street. Anghiari is magic, a gourmet's delight.
