Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1994

I am an architect and anthropologist with a private practice in Panama City. I've worked for many years in the historic preservation field, so I am pretty knowledgeable of the history and geography of my city and country, and I enjoy sharing this information with my guests. We like to offer a personalized attention to our guests, catering to their particular interests.

Why the Owner Chose Panama City

My wife and I bought this apartment shortly after getting married. It was the first home we owned.

The Unique Benefits of this Condo

My family and I enjoyed living in this apartment very much. The views are great, and you feel like living in nature while being in the middle of the city.

what?

my wife and i recently rented this property and can not believe the previous 7 reviews. where did they stay? we were late getting in ( baggage problems ) and the owner seemed annoyed we were late. we received a quick hi, paid him the remaining monthly rent, got a mini review of the property and he left. upon further inspection, we found a dirty stove top, a frying pan with grease in the oven and ants. during our stay, we had internet problems which were corrected but it took 2 days. this apartment needs updated badly, the uncomfortable and soiled sofa needs to be thrown out, the big chair is a disgrace and sits old and lumpy, the pillows were soiled, there were howling and barking dogs at all times and the so called garden was full of weeds. the lighting was poor and the decorating was sort of weird. this property was not in a central area with decent shopping and the only restaurant was quite a walk, if you dared walk on via espana. to find a good restaurant , you had to rent a taxi for 2-3 dollars, each way, just to eat. we have asked for some kind of refund but that probably will not happen. the owner has his money. maybe this review will help others when they decide on a rental unit in panama city.

Owner response:These people were the worst guests I’ve had since I put this property for rent, and I’m not surprised by this hostile and misleading review, about which they warned me previously via email. They were bitter, unreasonably picky, and impossible to satisfy. I answered phone calls almost every day, arranged for free additional cleaning services, and visited them several times to attend to all kinds of minutia, but to no avail. I have never spent as much time with a guest, and with such poor results. I should have known this was coming, since they sent several lengthy questionnaires before arriving. My fault.

Worth Every Penny

If you truly want to experience everyday life in Panama, this is the place to be. My wife, sister in-law and I spent a few days in the last week in February at this charming property and if it hadn't been booked for the next week, we would have absolutely stayed there again. From the moment we arrived and were picked at the airport by the property owner, our time was wonderful. Comfortable, clean, safe, close to grocery store and local restaurants, fabulous park outside your property where people walk and play soccer (football) from morning to evening, and always a taxi not far from the apartment to take you anywhere. The experience of living in a community with residents and not other tourists was the best part of the trip. Plus, the owner is helpful with advice and interesting tidbits about the area. The big bonus: we all agreed that this property had the best shower we have ever experienced. We will definitely be returning on our next trip to Panama!

Good choice!

My husband came across this property and it was a great choice for what we needed. The property is clean and comfortable and the owner is very nice and helpful with suggestions on where to visit/eat/etc. The property is in a very safe and secure location (gated) and an easy walk to Via Espana to grab a cab anywhere (and cabs are really cheap in Panama City). We were very happy with our stay here and would stay again. Note: The property is on the 4th floor so any people that stay here should be prepared for some stairs.

Great for families and short stay professionals!

I stayed at the apartment for a week and thoroughly enjoyed every minute! I came to Panama for a short research trip and loved the fact that the apartment was only a stone's throw from Panama's National Library. It is located on the park, close to a HUGE US-style grocery store, and it feels very safe. Also, the apartment is less than a block away from the city's main thoroughfare - Via Espana - so you can get to anywhere in the city with ease. Taxicabs are abundant on Via Espana at all times of the day and night. Being a somewhat adventurous person on a budget, I most often took the public bus to get where I needed to go. And it was no problem at all. Ariel is a gracious and very helpful host. I plan to stay at his place every time I come to Panama City for work or leisure.

Great value for the money!

This property is an exceptional value for the rental price. The 2 bedroom, air conditioned apartment is very clean, spacious, and nicely decorated with upgrades made by the owner. There is no traffic noise as the unit fronts on beautiful Parque Omar. The park and city view from the balcony is fantastic and well worth the short climb to the third floor where the apartment is located. The location is very desirable, not only for the serenity of the park (and parakeets), but it is close to major traffic corridors and only about 20 minutes from the airport and major downtown locations. Most of all, the owner goes out of his way to provide helpful visitor/tourist information. He is a recognized expert involving the history and renovations in the older, colonial (viejo) parts of Panama City. (His Ph.D. is in anthropology from Rice University.) We look forward to a return visit to Panama and a stay at this property.

Great place to stay

Very satisfied with this accommodation. Value for money was great. We were interested in a safe, comfortable and centric location, and this was just right. The apartment is well equipped with the essential needs for travelers (including laundry facility), very clean and well maintained. But the plus was having wireless internet access 24/7. The view was superb and we truly enjoyed the fireworks display for the Christmas and New Year celebration from our balcony. The safety of the complex and the building itself is excellent. The access to the Parque Omar, for those of us who like to walk/jog/exercise, was another plus. The Owner was always available, helpful and accommodating. We will be recommending this apartment to our friends who visit Panama, and we will surely be coming back in the near future.
