Relaxing weekend with firends in Angelus Oaks!

Guest: Audra (Northridge, CA)
Date of Stay: 05/19/12 Review Submitted: 05/25/12

We spent a weekend with twelve friends at this amazing log home and had a most delightful time! This home is probably the most beautiful hand crafted home I have seen...The owners took advantage of the beautiful scenery and crafted a log home to die for! Lots of painstaking attention to detail and wonderful interior collection of antiques acquired throughout the years...from a handcarved antique Indian to a refurbished pot belly stove and light fixtures.Five very comfortable bedrooms plus a loft and sofas make this a perfect place for 6+ couples and their families. You don't feel that you're crowding each other. Deck is ideal for dining...apple orchards and garden flowers(especially the sweet william and poppies) surrounding the river make hiking picture perfect.Would go back in a flash Thank you R.J. and Anna...you were terrifc hosts!

Gorgeous Mountain Retreat!

Guest: Christine (Sedalia, CO)
Date of Stay: 04/23/12 Review Submitted: 04/30/12

This is a lovely place to go to get away from it all! The log home is gorgeous and well maintained. All the comforts of home were available. There are so many sleeping areas that you could have many guests stay with you! The teenagers especially loved the loft, it was their hangout. We love to cook and everything you need is right there, including a gas grill outside. We also enjoyed the spa and the deck to sit and relax. The river is right below the property and there are many nature hiking trails near and around the river to get outside and enjoy nature. You are surrounded by mountains and picturesque views. There is a cool tree swing outside for the kids. Make sure to bring all your food supplies with you and to get gas before going up the mountain, as it is a ways to go to the store if you forget something. But Anna and RJ are right there to help if anything is needed, especially those last minute items, they are well-prepared. They can also direct you to nearby trails, lakes, fishing, etc. Myself? I just liked to kick back, relax with a drink and enjoy the peaceful countryside and visit with my family and friends. It's a great place to take your extended family for a get-together, or just a romantic weekend for 2 people.

WOW!! We just spent an amazing 3 night stay at the beautiful log cabin. The house was in such a great condition, huge showers, stainless-steel stove, comfy beds, fully stocked kitchen! I loved the fact that everything was so close to the house, we went hiking, fishing, exploring. The hot tub was amazing at night, it was so quiet and the starts looked gorgeous. Pictures did not do justice!!! We were all blown away at the fact that Anna & RJ built the whole thing from scratch. We were so happy RJ & Anna were so welcoming they were so attentive and helpful with tips on where to fish and explore. It made us feel so at home. It was a great getaway we will be back in the summer. Thank you RJ & Anna for making our vacation that much more enjoyable, see you in a few months!

A definite must for anyone who loves the outdoors

Guest: trailblazer (Laguna Hills)

My family hadn’t had our winter vacation so we booked this gorgeous cabin. We arrived to an immaculate cabin secluded amongst the woods. This super cozy cabin had all the comforts of home and came furnished with all the necessities for our family of 12. The scenery was breathtaking and we especially enjoyed the view while BBQing on the deck!! Hiking along the river was so refreshing. It was a vacation we will treasure and we look forward to returning to your little paradise soon.

Took a group of 10 (5 couples) and we had an amazing time. The place was very clean, very comfortable and everyone enjoyed our stay. The owners were very gracious and helped make us feel very much at home. If you are looking to get away from the hectic pace so many of us live day to day, this is a great retreat. We will be back.

Great Getaway for our Group!

Guest: QFY (Los Angeles)
Date of Stay: 12/29/11 Review Submitted: 01/05/12

We just returned from a 4-night stay at R.J. & Anna's meticulous cabin, and boy did we have a great time!!! The location is definitely remote, so be prepared to bring all you need unless you wish to drive 45 minutes back down the mountain (or 45 minutes to Big Bear). That being said, we loved it! The scenery alone made the cabin desirable--we could sit on the deck and hear the sounds of the nearby river, play and run around in the yard, or just take in a slower pace of life (be sure to gaze at the stars at night too!). We really loved how easy it was to venture out for great long hikes--on one occasion, one of the owners' dogs led us the whole way! While the scenery was remarkable, the cabin itself was really great too. There was plenty of space for our group to sprawl out on the 3 couches, visit, play board games, eat together and yet still have your own privacy in one of the 5 bedrooms or loft. We thought that the kitchen was especially great. The owners have done a nice job to keep it stocked with pans and utensils, and the stove/oven seemed new. There was plenty of counter space and it was not at all difficult to knock out meals for our group in that kitchen. If there was anything we wished for, it was a bigger TV equipped with cable/satellite service, but overall everything (bathrooms, appliances) felt modern enough to keep us really comfortable while still taking in the rustic vibe of the surroundings. We'd love to visit again!

My family and I had a great time during our Christmas holiday. My grandchildren, nephews and nieces were able to play on the swing, tree house, and picked worms to fish on the property's stream. One of my nieces caught her first trout. The cabin was clean, spacious and had all the necessary amenities. The owners R.J. and Anna were honest, pleasant and very helpful. God willing, My family and I hope to return next year. THANK YOU R.J. and ANNA!

Poetry from a Women's Retreat: "We all arrived to a magical location in Angelus Oaks on a Friday afternoon. The yin energy of the land enveloped all of us and assisted in pealing back a layer or two. We explored the expressions of the feminine…her softness, her playfulness, her creative and intuitive nature with ease. We approached her myth in the astral realm, under the starry sky and as an on going story. The dialogue streamed as the inward journey expanded and the “time” went to far to quickly."

Our river hike on Tuesday was an incredible team building activity and something we will always remember! We left some coffee for you next to the guest book that we hope you enjoy. A team of Starbucks District Manager heard me rave about the beauty of your place, and they are looking to book a date very soon. Thanks again for crafting such a beautiful cabin in such a beautiful place for us to enjoy!

Hiking, the walk to the river, the jacuzzi, the beautiful scenery, the great wrap-around porch and much more make this place the perfect getaway. We had 2 small children with us also that loved exploring, swinging on the tree swing and checking out the treehouse!

Great Experience

Guest: JillN (Corona, CA)
Date of Stay: 08/14/11 Review Submitted: 08/23/11

The property was extremely well-maintained, quiet and peaceful. We could see a lot of stars at night, and the sun setting over the mountains was gorgeous. The cabin is beautiful inside and out, and the decor is creative and natural, very homey. The hiking trails and river nearby provided some good exercise. Plenty of space to run around or just relax under some of the fruit trees or on the hammock. It was also nice to eat at the picnic table on the porch outside and enjoy the fresh air. The owner was extremely friendly, and I would definitely recommend this property for anyone planning a mountain retreat.

Perfect family summer getaway

Guest: Marian (San Diego, CA)
Date of Stay: 08/05/11 Review Submitted: 08/15/11

My family is divided between coasts, and we usually get together for a week each summer in Maine. This year we decided to stay in California (closer to home for the West Coasters) and this property was perfect! All eight adults and three kids were very comfortable with the bedroom/bathroom arrangements. There was plenty of space for napping and meal times. Best of all, the kids had room to run, and to play and fish in the creek, and they enjoyed hours and hours on the swing in the adjacent yard. We happened to be there during three nights of meteor showers, and took in the view from the back patio. There are countless hiking trials around (including a strenuous trek up to the summit of San Gorgonio, the highest peak in Southern California) and the cabin is less than an hour from Big Bear Lake, where we rented a boat for a day. There are also great walks for birding. The owners went above and beyond making sure that we had everything we needed. They have obviously poured a great deal of effort and love into this home. I would strongly recommend this property.

Outstanding getaway location!! I give it a 10+ star review!!!

Guest: JR (San Jose, CA)
Date of Stay: 06/22/11 Review Submitted: 07/13/11

What a wonderful, relaxing time my family & I had during the three days we spent at this rural mountain retreat! We spent our days hiking through the hills, playing on the river bank, strolling through the apple orchard & just enjoying some good old fashioned R & R. The owners (RJ & Anna) were such wonderful, gracious, friendly and very informative hosts. My kids absolutely loved wading in the shallow river water, playing fetch with the owner’s friendly dogs, and especially swinging on the 25’ swing under the massive Ponderosa Pine. In my kids' own words, “the worst thing about this place is that we have to leave & drive home.” For anyone thinking of visiting this beautiful place, I recommend the following upon arrival; take off your watch & plan to really ‘take a load off’ your shoulders. Take a stroll along the river, take a dip in the open-air hot tube, or just grab a chair & a good book & hang out on the big, open deck & enjoy the views. The place is what I would consider a real hidden GEM! I can hardly wait to go back, which will be very soon!!

Wonderful family retreat

Guest: P & J (Rodeo, CA)
Date of Stay: 06/15/11 Review Submitted: 07/06/11

This lovingly built home was the perfect place for our family gathering. There were 8 adults in our party and all found their rooms and beds to be very comfortable. We enjoyed the privacy, cooking in the unique kitchen, using the outside grill on the deck and soaking in the hot tub. Lots of space to relax and catch up with one another. The grounds and house are very well maintained and the house has some unusual furnishings. It was such a pleasure to return to this lovely retreat after long days of hiking in the mountains or fishing along the river just a short walk down the hill. What is truly amazing is the hand hewn construction of this log home, and that RJ and Anna are willing to share it with others. They are kind and generous hosts, fun to visit with and give hepful information about the area. The map and directions were easy to follow. We highly recommend this vacation rental and would definitely stay here again! Thank you Anna and RJ!

Guest: MJ (San Diego)

We had a wonderful time in Anna and Robert's house. We spent two nights there. The house is big, clean and unique. The area is wild, quiet and beautiful. The air is pure and fresh. The river and forest... We caught fish over the river and made the best fish soup we have ever tasted in states. We really want to thank Anna for her help. She prepared bait for us and guide through river and trail. The strawberry she planned was delicious....This is the vacation we will talk for long time. We will be back soon.

Owner response:The fishermen were so enthusiastic - they came home from the river with flashlights on, and five fish in the bag.

We cooked our own meals in the well-equipped kitchen. The downstairs rooms are fine for sleeping more people. We had a little difficulty finding the place at first, so bring a cell-phone for last-minute directions.

Guest: Scott (La Palma, CA)

We stayed here during the last week of December 2010 and we loved it! Four families (16 total people including kids) enjoyed ample space and very cozy accommodations. We were fortunate to witness snowfall, something in which I haven't seen in over 15 years, and a new and unforgettable "first-time" experience for my 8 and 12 year olds (Kobe & Tyler). The hospitality by RJ is unmatched and he truly makes you feel at home. As the organizer of this trip, I was nervous about booking a place I've never visited, but thank God he blessed us with this log home. Everyone in our group was extremely pleased with the selection and can't wait to come back. They had three watch dogs on premise that not only made us feel safe, but entertained our kids as well. Thanks again for everything, this was definitely one of our best mini-vacations to date.

Guest: KB (Cardiff by the Sea, Ca.)
Date of Stay: 12/19/10 Review Submitted: 12/24/10

We happened to pick our vacation at R.J. and Ana's during what could go down as the rain storm of the century. But...if you're going to be "stuck" inside somewhere I can't think of a better place! The "cabin" (more like a resort lodge) is cozy, yet luxurious. The wood fired heater in the living room is a great gathering place and where we spent much of our time playing games and watching the storm rage outside. R.J and Ana met us when we arrived, got us settled in, and we're the most gracious of hosts. We look forward to returning!

A Perfect Summer Retreat

Guest: Stephanotis (Irvine, CA)
Date of Stay: 08/27/10 Review Submitted: 08/30/10

Several days ago, a kind friend invited me to stay at this log home. When she mentioned that it would entail "luxury camping", I envisioned a simple log home and one sink -- simple amenities that would still please me. Much to my surprise (and delight!), however, this luxury log home in Angelus Oaks proved to be the setting of one of my greatest vacations! The canyon surrounding the home and property is absolutely breathtaking, the running stream of water is so crisp and fresh, and the breeze coming by is wonderful. I had a fantastic time lounging around the house, which was expertly built, furnished, and decorated (to the very last cute detail!) by the two nice owners. Outside of the home, there are many things to do - visit the vegetable garden (the corn and beets were lovely and fresh!), hike in or hang around the river, hike, take a walk, swing, sight see, take a dip in the jacuzzi, star gaze, or just plan relax! My three day stay at this home was more than amazing. I feel so fortunate to have been able to visit this enchanting place! I hope to return again!

Recently rented this wonderful log cabin for a 5-night stay for my annual get-together with my college pals. It was the perfect location for us. Away from the city, but less than 2 hours away, in beautiful mountain location. Plenty of bed-space, great kitchen to cook in, BBQ, jacuzzi, next to stream and apple orchard. The ride up the mountains is spectacular and the guys who flew in for the reunion were totally awed when they arrived. Close to Big Bear and lake Arrowhead. Very restful. Finally got to see stars at night, while in Southern California. Will definitely visit again!

Having landed in LAX and into Southern California's congestion, this was an incredible place to start our California vacation. The challenge was choosing between exploring the surrounding property and views or discovering the many details of this impressive house. Your hand built home completely redefines what a log cabin can be. We were surprised how easily daylight brightened it's inside and enjoyed hearing some of the stories behind those details. It was really enjoyable to hike around and be able to come back to the many comforts of the house. We're not sure when, but we would eagerly come back - and stay longer.

Thank you so much for this gift. It has been an amazing weekend. Our family had a much needed rest and great memories that will last forever. We are avid travellers and always seek to find "the gem". This is it. The home is beautiful. All the small touches are appreciated. We hope to come back again soon. But next time, we're gong to catch some fish!! You are lovely hosts and we wish you much health and happiness.

We stayed in this beautiful property for my Mom's 90th birthday celebration. You can't find a more beautiful place to stay. The log home is incredible and comfortably accommodates 12 people. The kitchen, living room, dining room and deck are spacious giving plenty of room for friends and family to gather. We enjoyed walking along the stream and hiking the many trails. If you want more distant entertainment, Big Bear is only about 20 miles up the road. All in all a very wonderful time. We'll be back soon. Thanks Anna and RJ!

RJ…just want to add my 2 cents worth. We really enjoyed the 2 night stay at your Log cabin. What an accomplishment. My daughter and her husband flew out from Dallas just for my Mom’s 90th birthday celebration, so you know this was a big deal for me and Tammy to have our mom honored like this. Your place was perfect. And added to that was the warm feeling you gave us to be around you. We have been emailing each other back and forth saying how we hope we can all get together again and do a repeat.

Our family had such a wonderful and relaxing time at the cabin. I would highly recommend it to anybody that needs family time or just peace and quiet. The owners are so incredibly nice and made the stay even greater. We will be back next year!

This cabin is absolutely the perfect getaway. Our family rented the place for Thanksgiving and it was just fabulous!! The craftsmanship on the actual cabin is amazing; the owners built it themselves. The natural beauty of the property will leave you speechless. We had such a fabulous time at this spacious cabin located in the midst of such spectacular scenery. My husband and a few of our family members had a blast fishing down at the river (nothing caught, but there were definitely fish in there). To top it off, the owners were incredibly nice. I've rented other cabins before and I can definitely say that, if available, we're looking forward to renting this place for years to come. Thanks R.J. and Anna!

The riverfront cabin is truly a magical place. The cabin itself is a work of art, and the property is beautiful, secluded, and peaceful. It is a fabulously refreshing change of pace, only 2 hours from LA. We came up in October, with several children who played in the river and on the swings, fished, picked apples, hung out in the treehouse, played with the dogs - they loved it too! The owners could not have been more gracious and accommodating. My son has asked if we can return in every season.

Serene and beautiful. We had a gathering of longtime friends. The drive to and from Angelus Oaks is beautiful. Recommend this to anyone wanting a beautiful outdoor and rustic experience.
