This apartment is one of the true gems you can find on homeaway.com. The apartment is very comfortable and has all that you could need to feel truly at home. The apartment is decorated very tastefully and is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of NYC. The apartment owner Cheryl was very accommodating to our travel schedule and was always quick to reply to my questions via e-mail. I often use homeaway rentals and can promise you that this apartment is one of the best I have ever rented. Do yourself a favor and avoid the bed bug ridden hotels of New York and sleep in comfort in this incredible third floor apartment.

From the moment I got there, Cheryl and Mark were absolutely wonderful host. Mark helped me figure out my way around the city, gave me some wonderful suggestions about vegetarian cuisine in the area and helped me with find my way into the city (which by the way, was the subway right around the corner). The neighborhood is like a city neighborhood, but everyone seemed friendly. The property was very comfortable and perfect as it was just two of us staying there. We almost had another friend to stay and that would have been enough room for him as well. We were in town for a convention and there were a few functions that actually took place in Brooklyn so we were pretty central. Even though most of our functions took place in Manhattan the back and forth wasn't a hassle at all. I couldn't wait to come back home and tell my friends about my "new home" in Brooklyn!

We had a great stay in this appartment early October. The appartment has all you need, including space which is rare in New York. We enjoyed having the kitchen to make our own breakfast and even the one dinner when we were too exhausted to go out. The place is very elegantly decorated and very comfortable. The location is convenient, really a minute walk to the subway and then straight to Manhattan (you can change to the express train at the first stop towards Manhattan which is much faster, esp on weekdays). The neighbourhood is safe and up and coming Bed-Stuy is at walking distance. Cheryl and Mark are extremely helpful and hospitable, lovely people. If I can make one suggestion it would be replace the mattress of the double bed.

What a good trip! We arrived earlier than expected on the day but the flat was already arranged and Cheryl ready to welcome us. This place really made our stay in NY very pleasant. Manhattan is round the corner with the C train just a minute away from our door. The flat is well furnished, very functional and pleasant to live in with plenty of light and sittings. The deco in the stairs is really cool as well ! There were 4 of us but we never felt like stepping on each other and each one of us had their own space. If you are a small group I would say don't hesitate !

My wife and I wanted to stay in Brooklyn during our latest business trip to NY and we were glad we found this place. The apartment was tastefully and thoughtfully decorated. It was filled with all of things one would need to feel at home (i.e. fresh linens, kitchen supplies, ample storage, great books, etc.). The location is just steps away from the C train and a late night corner store among other conveniences. The only drawback for us was that we spent a lot of time working in Williamsburg and though we could get there by train it was a bit of an extra haul. However, getting into downtown Manhattan was quick and easy! We will definitely consider staying there again especially since the owners really went out of their way to provide us with an outstanding experience.

Very convient location, close to the subway - many stores nearby, property is very comfortable. In our group, there were three adults and two teenagers, and this worked fine for us. Many homey touches to the unit, DVDs, maps, plenty of towels, linens, and medicine cabinet supplies which was thoughtful - owners were very nice and accomodating - we'd happily stay there again!

This place was great. My family's vacation couldn't of been better. This was the first time we visited New York with the kids and having a home to go to right off the subway and not a stuffy overpriced hotel made our time in the city even better. The place was very nice, we cooked our own breakfast and the kids enjoyed the games and videos provided in the apartment. I will definitely stay there again.

My family and I recently stayed at this rental and had a truly wonderful experience. The property is beautifully maintained, the location is conveniently located half a block from the subway, and it was extremely family friendly. They had lots of videos and games for our children ranging in ages 4-6. The hosts were extremely sweet and helpful. Having to take the subway to Brooklyn only added to our goal of having a truly NY experience! Would definitely stay here again.

My husband, two teenage kids and myself very much enjoyed the warm hospitality offered from Cheryl and Mark. We visited from Monday to Friday this March and from the minute we arrived, we were welcomed. Our hosts made every effort to make things convenient for ourselves going as far as sending their son upstairs to warn us that we needed to move our vehicle in order to avoid a ticket... We felt well taken care of. I agree with some reviews stating that you do have to pay attention to individuals hanging out at the Subway for instance but like anywhere in NY the majority of people are very down to earth. Do bring earphones if you are a light sleeper because the city can seem rather loud if you live in the suburbs like we do. All in all the Brooklyn experience was great and I don't think we could have asked for better hosts in Cheryl and Mark. Thanks again guys. Take care. Linda & Stepane from Montreal

My wife and I just spent a month in the apartment. Cheryl and Mark are great hosts and the apartment was well-furnished and well equipped. Comfortable beds and pillows are essential with any long stay and we were not disappointed; in fact, I liked the pillows better than those I use at home. The kitchen was very well-stocked with a lot of treats like coffee, beer, cereals, etc. Because the bedrooms overlook the street outside, light sleepers should consider earplugs and/or a white noise machine, but street noise is a way of life in the city, whether you're in an apartment or a fancy hotel. I did find the street to be nicer than implied in earlier reviews; there are a couple of beautiful old churches and a classic 1920's elementary school nearby. You can walk to the Rite Aid pharmacy in about a minute and there's also a laundromat next to the Rite Aid. An Associated supermarket is a five minute walk and if the phenomenal NY cuisine isn't appealing to the kiddies, there's a McDonald's within a couple minute walk. Try the excellent bagels with cream cheese for a buck in the bodega (mini-market) across the street. Neighborhood was safe.

Thanks Cheryl and Mark. You gave us a warm welcome and we felt really "at home" in your appartment. We (parents and 2 grown-up daughters) spent a comfortable week there. We found it complete and clean. One nice thing was the metro around the corner. All the questions we had before we came were answered appropriately and fast! Very nice all together.

Cheryl and her family are the perfect hosts. From the first moment on you feel at home and welcoming. Fresh flowers on table, coffee and tee in the cabinet, what could be nicer? The neighborhood is safe, even late nights and all the people are really really friendly and always helpfully if they see you studying a metro-map. Cheryl and her family are very helpful and you can always come with any question, she will help. The appartment is exactly as on the pictures and from the window at the dining-table you can see the empire state building. The metro is right around the corner and you are in 20 minutes in manhatten, just perfect! To the JFK-Airport you just have to switch ones to the A-Line and then to the JFK-Air Train and about 45 minutes later your on JFK-Airport. When you've shopped a lot in manhatten, or have done a lot of sightseeing it is a welcoming appartment to come home and you can relax and prepare for a next day. Everything you need is provided, even a shampoo if you really forgotten one. Just perfect and we will shurely book it again, if available, at our next trip. Thank you very much Cheryl, Mark and children.

We stayed in Cheryl's apartment for one week, and we really liked very much. It's a roomy but cozy place with a large master bedroom and a smaller 2nd bedroom. We were with three persons, and we the size of the apartment was perfect. It was clean and tidy, and very thing you need is there. Mark and Cheryl are very good hosts. Mark showed us the neighborhood shops. The subway is right around the corner. In 25 min.you're in Manhattan. It's a lively neighborhood...

Really pleased with this apartment - have stayed in NYC a few times, and this has been the best apartment yet - great price, very homely and lots of space. The pictures on the site are a great representation of the property and Cheryl was a great host - completely unobtrusive but felt that she was always available to help if we had any problems. If the apartment isn't booked the next time we go to NYC, we'll be going back.

The apartment served our three night stay in Brooklyn well. It was clean and tidy with a metro station conveniently just round the corner. We bought metro passes every day and explored all over Brooklyn and Manhattan. Wish we could've had longer in Brooklyn, a great place with lots of good restaurants and shops. I'd advise a light sleeper to bring ear plugs along to the apartment as the sound of traffic and trains carries to the bedrooms at night.

The apartment is exactly as it is described. There was everything in the apartment that we needed and then some. Everything was clean and well maintained. We had four adults stay in the apartment very comfortably. The area was very easy to reach by subway, which is just around the corner. There are deli's, take-aways and a grocery store within walking distance. (Tony's?) pizzeria down Fulton street was delicious. Having the kitchen made it easy to save money. We spent $40 at the grocery store and had breakfast and lunches for 4 adults for a week. We felt safe in the area - rode the subway home as late at 11pm with no problems. Cheryl and Mark were great hosts, giving us all the information, tips and support that we needed to make our stay as easy as possible. Staying in Brooklyn completed the "real" New York experience - where else do you get to see kids break dancing on the subway :)

Great apartment, owners live in the lower 2 stories so shared entrance but each storey opens out onto the stairwell independently. Spacious, clean, quiet apartment, large bedroom and small bedroom off to the side but our kids preferred the sofa bed in the living room which is good for little ones. Air conditioning works great, key for the hot summer in New York. Full kitchen with big fridge and good gas stove. Area is primarily African-American, lots of cool little soul food fast food places. Subway really right around the corner, and on the C line can get to close-by Lafayette area with restaurants or all of Manhattan. Great value instead of pricey Manhattan hotels.

Cheryl and Mark are amazing hosts. They were very accommodating and helpful, even before we had arrived. I celebrated a round birthday in Brooklyn and Cheryl and Mark made it special. They are personable but not intrusive. The apartment is spacious and tastefully decorated. The subway is just around the corner, getting you around quickly. The people in the neighbourhood were friendly and welcoming. Noise sensitive people may not appreciate the nearby train, which we only noticed in more quiet hours. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at this apartment. Thank you again Cheryl and Mark!!!

We stayed a long week-end in this apartment. We flew in from Montreal to JFK, and were so happy to discover that the taxi ride from the airport was short and cheap! As soon as we walked in the apartment, we loved the vibe of the place! The apartment is clean, very comfortable and tastefully decorated. It has everything and anything you would need (towels, iron, etc.) and adequately sleeps 5 people (2 double beds and a single bed in the small bedroom). Also, the kitchen has everything needed to cook up a storm! We even had everything to make coffee and tea the first morning! The apartment is quite literally a few minutes away from Ralph Avenue station, which is 20-25 minutes from the centre of Manhattan, it’s a direct ride. But, I would strongly recommend spending some time exploring Brooklyn. It was our first time visiting Bk and we had a blast!!! Make sure to ask Cheryl and the family for suggestions of activities and restaurants, Brooklyn is full of fabulous places to discover! After this experience, I don't think I will ever go back to staying in expensive and pretentious Manhattan hotels! Most importantly, it was a real pleasure to meet and get to know Cheryl and her family. They were so helpful and welcoming; it felt like we'd know them forever! So many thanks to both Cheryl and Mark and their beautiful kids for making our vacation truly unforgettable. Bottom Line, this place offers the best of both worlds! A few minutes away from Manhattan while being in the heart of Brooklyn! It feels like home away from home! I would strongly recommend this place to all types of travelers!

Cheryl and Mark are our "Superheroes of Brooklyn". The flat was our "home" for two weeks and we felt like real New Yorker. The interior was delightful and we have been comfortable as much as possible. The functionality was excellent. We loved the big fridge-freezer. More short facts: The flat was clean. The internet connectivity was good. The kitchen equipment was great. If we needed something (additional drinking glasses, a light bulb) Cheryl brought it immediately. The neighborhood (cars and motorbikes on the street) was noisy, but we did not expect silence in New York! If you want silence you have to visit the german black forrest ;-) Cheryl, Mark and their family were so kind, helpful and friendly. They have contributed to our wonderful holidays so much. They shown us the way to the restaurants, fast food, supermarkets and the ATM (Thank you Mark!!!) I saw a building!!! (This is in internal running gag in our family) Yes, it is true. You can see the Empire State Building from the living room window. Thank you again for making our holidays so special. Juergen & Anja & Kids

The flat was ok, but not elegant. There is no private entrance and no dining area. We stayed there with four adults and found no place to have lunch, what means we had to sit on the living room sofa around a small couch table in front of the sofa. If you stay there with two people it might be ok. The bathroom is very small and without a window. We could not open the windows in the flat and it was very noisy on the streets outside. The area around the house is quite ugly and dirty, but the family is nice and very friendly. No taxi driver kows the way to this address. We always went by subway. the best thing is that it is only a short way to the subway station. There you find some stores and a supermarket, but no restaurants.

The apartment is exactly like it is in the photos and has everything you could possibly need. It is so close to the subway which takes you straight into Manhattan. I would recommend getting the L train to Bedford Ave in Brooklyn where there are loads of nice restaurants and bars. Cheryl and Mark couldnt be more helpful and we always on hand if we had any questions. The area is pretty quiet at night, so its good for sleeping unlike Manhattan where I have stayed before and there is always street noise throughout the night. Definitely a different experience than staying in Manhattan, and something everyone who visits New York should do!

We came to Brooklyn to look at the Pratt Institute for our daughter as a possible college choice. We are glad we decided to stay in Brooklyn. We loved the downtown area, the transportation museum, great restaurants and the subway convenience. Mark and Cheryl were most helpful and made sure our accomodations were satisfactory. Brooklyn is a multicultural city with a lot of diversity, a true melting pot of humanity, we enjoyed each day and look forward to another visit soon. Our daughter decided not to attend the Pratt Institute, but as we found out from Mark, being a Virginia Tech Hokie is a good thing also! Perhaps Grad School in Brooklyn?

Stayed for one week at this apartment. We flew into JFK from Amsterdam, and after the usual long delay at immigration, we were very late arriving in New York. Finding a taxi driver who knew directions still further delayed us but luckily for us, our hostess Cheryl was waiting for us at the door. We were very impressed that Cheryl had been kind enough to get us in basics like bread, milk and an evening meal for us . The apartment itself is on the 3rd floor of a townhouse. It is very tastefully, decorated, well-equipped and with adequate sleeping for 5 people, 2 double beds (one sofa bed) and a single bed in the small bedroom. If you wanted to eat in then you could easily, but hey, you're in New York... The apartment is quite literally a stone's throw from Ralph Avenue station, which is 20-25 minutes from the centre of Manhatten, the one train will take you all the way in. The trains run regularly all day and evening so there wasn't much hanging about to do.Though if you want to explore the 'real' New York, then make sure to spend some time in Brooklyn, where the shopping and choice of food, is far more reasonable and genuine. Overall impression is that you would do well to chose this over any of the over-priced, over-rated hotels in Manhattan, particularly if you want to experience the real taste of NY. So thanks to both Cheryl and Mark for making us feel welcome and letting us stay. The true acid test is to say, "Would I stay here again and would I recommend it to my friends or family?" The answer quite simply is "yes, unequivocally, to both.

My friends and I stayed here for a long weekend in New York and it was great. The apartment was clean and had enough space for all of us to be comfy. It was just like staying at a friends place - everything we needed was there. The apartment was so close to the subway - it was great for first timers to New York. It was only about 20 mins to Manhatten and just about everything we wanted to see. I parked my car outside of the apartment while there and didn't have any trouble either - just make sure you are on the right side of the street for street cleaning. Some tips for first timers in New York: check out the New York Pass - it got us into just about everything free and let us skip lines - definitly worth the investment. The second one was to make sure to buy the unlimited subway pass for however long you are in the city - you'll be riding the subway a lot!! And one last thing - don't forget your comfy shoes - they will become infinetly more important to you then you realize :) Happy New Yorking!

My initial review did not make it for some reason, and that is a pity because my family and I enjoyed our stay immensely. The apartment is clean and roomy (especially by New York standards). Cheryl and Mark are friendly and knowledgeable--I am not exagerating when I call them Mr. and Mrs. Brooklyn Ambassadors. And Brooklyn! Far exceeded my expectations. Fantastic museum. Beautiful parks. Coney Island was fun--even in October. I would recommend this for the real New York experience and I would easily stay here again, without a doubt.

The rental was very much as pictured in the photos, and Cheryl and Mark and their family were very accomodating and friendly. As written in other reviews, there really is no fault with the place other than it's not in the most beautiful neighbourhood, but it definitely is a very short walk to the subway. By the way, I found a nail salon nearby that gave me the cheapest and best mani-pedi I've ever had! It's definitely worth walking around and exploring the neighbourhood to give you a sense of how real people (not Manhattan millionnaires) live in New York. Highly recommended.

If you want to feel like a real New Yorker you should choose that apartment which is in a perfect condition, clean and has everything you'll need for the stay. The neighborhood is really nice and quiet (perfect to recover after walking the whole day through Manhattan, which is just a 20 minute subway ride away), a supermarket is some minutes away and it's just a 30 seconds walk to the subway station and the laundry. We felt very safe there even in the darkness and we really enjoyed that apartment and would choose it any time again. Couldn't imagine a better place to stay to discover New York. Thanks to Cheryl and Marc who provided us with really good tips and offered help if we needed. It was an awesome trip. Ben and family

We were so fortunate to spend two weeks in this charming apartment this summer! The apartment is immaculately clean, and stocked with everything you might possibly need - every detail was thoughtfully considered. The place is spacious, airy, and beautifully decorated. There is air conditioning, but the breeze through the open window was so nice, we only used the A/C once or twice - which is amazing for July and August in NYC! The family (who live right downstairs) are absolutely wonderful hosts! Very knowledgeable about the neighborhood and also NYC in general, and very friendly, kind, and helpful. My son had a great time playing with the children! The neighborhood was full of nice, friendly people - we felt very safe and very at home. The location was very convenient - only 1/2 a block from subway, with laundry, drug store, grocery, post office, bakery all within a 2 block radius! And the ad doesn't mention that you can see the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building from the living room window! Our stay was so much better than we ever could have hoped for, and I wholeheartedly recommend this apt. to anyone coming to NYC! Thank you so much for a wonderful two weeks, and we hope to see you next summer, too! :)

Being very close to subway station and only half an hour away from Manhattan was very comfortable. It was not only a good place to stay but we felt coming "home" when returning from Manhattan in the evening. Cheryl and Marc are very kind hosts. We would go again there even in warm July.

My roommate and I were lucky enough to call this apartment home for five months! Mark and Cheryl are very accommodating and provided us with everything we could possibly need... towels, sheets, dvd/vcr/stereo, wi-fi, coffee maker, microwave, fans, etc. It really felt like home - and the apartment is huge by New York standards with a lot of room for storage/toiletries/clothes. With Rite-Aid, a grocery/fruit stand, and a laundromat right around the corner, quick errands were a breeze, and the subway station is about a one-minute walk from the front door. The only drawback for me was not being in a charming neighborhood within walking distance of coffee shops and restaurants and things. However, the straight shot into Manhattan is very convenient, particularly if you're coming as a tourist (or commuting to work), and there are a few fantastic neighborhoods in Brooklyn right off the A/C line to meet all your restaurant/shopping needs (And Mark and Cheryl will gladly direct you to all of them). At the end of the day, feeling safe in a wonderful apartment made up for lack of neighborhood charm. I will certainly miss it, and I recommend it to anyone, whether you plan on staying long or short-term.

As soon as we walked in the door we felt right at home. The layout was nice and spacious with lots of room to relax. We really liked that the subway around the corner so we could come and go as we pleased. We were very happy that the apartment was clean and well appointed and the bedding was so soft and cozy. We would definitely come back again to see Cheryl and Mark our wonderful home away friends.

Our family -- my wife, our two young daughters and my mother -- stayed here for a week. We can't imagine a lovelier home, or a more congenial and reasonably priced living arrangement for staying in New York. The apartment was in beautiful condition, with large lovely rooms and all amenities in perfect working order. In addition, the family in charge of the place lived on the ground floor of the brownstone, and they were delightful personally and extremely helpful in all practical ways. This was a perfect experience for us and we recommend it with our greatest enthusiasm.

We have just spent one week in this wonderful apartment. It is decorated so nicely that we felt at home immediately. If NYC didn't have so much to offer, we'd have spend more time inside - so don't be afraid of rainy days on your visit. Herkimer St is not the most beautiful in the area, but what really counts is the fact that we were always pleased to come home to this cozy place after a long and tiring day in the 5 boroughs.

Absolutely delightful charming and extremely helpful people. Only one and a half minutes walk to Subway (Ralf Avenue) which goes directly downtown in about 20 minutes. Travelled late at night on subway with my daughter and felt quite safe. Drug store and shops very close by to apartment. Sometimes a little street noise at night but to be expected as with any big city you stay in. (at home we live in the middle of the country surrounded by fields, so it is quite a change). Apartment fully equipped for all your needs, though we did not even cook a meal as we left early in the morning and returned late a night. There is so much to see and do. Cheryl is simply marvelous and will advise you and direct you on wherever you wish to go, from sightseeing to great discount clothing stores. Linen and towels fresh clean and with extra supply. Apartment is clean and very spacious. A fanatstic price compared to Manhattan which is only a short train ride away. You feel like a native of NYC living here. much more fun than a hotel. Thank you again to the owner Cheryl you are a great ambassador to NYC and provide an excellent service to your guests.

This place was so nice, everything was set up for us, even a bottle of water in the refrigerator however, with NY's extremes in weather, it would certainly be an A1 quality stay with added air conditioner especially for out of towners who aren't used to the extremes. But otherwise, everything was great. Thanks so much for your hospitality!

This is a great little apartment in Brooklyn. Very easy access to Manhattan and good parking availability. Great management and service. Only one complaint...it's doesn't have air conditioning. Although, there are plenty of windows and fans to cool down at night. Comfortable, clean furniture and bedding.
