Located in the heart of southwest Michigan, this property offers you the chance to relax and unwind. The property is located directly on Lake Michigan. If you choose to walk northward on the beach (away from St. Joe) you may never meet another person. If you choose to walk southward on the beach (toward St. Joe) you can admire the new Harbor Shores golf course. Either way the beach is beautiful and wide open. And don't forget to bring your four legged buddy - they will love to play in the water and run in the sand! When you get back from your walk make a fire on the beach and have a fun family evening or snuggle up together- just the two of you!
The home is situated on a good size property so you feel a real sense of privacy. There is a deck facing the lake accessible through a large sliding glass door. With the leaves off the trees the view is amazing. You can sit by the fire and enjoy the panoramic view of the lake. Off the back deck are stairs leading down to the lake. The home has two bedrooms each with a queen size bed and one room has a pull-out very comfortable single bed. The kitchen is spacious and sunny and the living room feels wide open with a view of the lake.
Southwest Michigan is packed with many activities. In the winter you can cross country ski. In the fall you can go apple or pumpkin picking. The new Harbor Shores golf course is less than a mile from the house. No matter what time of year it is you can enjoy the many wineries in the area. There is a wine trail map to follow to take you to all the Southwest Michigan wineries. St. Joseph has an art museum, a children's museum and wonderful restaurants. Other great towns such as Saugatuck, South Haven and New Buffalo are a short drive away. Or just enjoy the fabulous view from the home of vast and gorgeous Lake Michigan!

Best Kept Secret in SW Michigan!!!

We are a family of four--two small children and a small dog and have stayed at the cottage twice--two weeks in July 2009 and two weeks in July 2010 (and yes, we have already booked for 2011!). We are utterly charmed by the cottage, private beach and the town of St. Joe. We find it to be a magical place and will be back every year. The house is snug, without being cramped. It is very clean and well-maintained. The owner is very helpful and easy to work with. The big, eat-in kitchen with the ice maker, microwave, dishwasher and washer/dryer is just what we need. Sunsets and lake views are great from the master bedroom and patio. Yes, there are stairs down to the beach (I think we counted 110), but we enjoy being up on the bluff and do not find them to be prohibitive. If anything, they help us get a little exercise after lounging on the beach all day. The private beach is unbelievable!!! Fine sand, great swimming; just like the ocean, but without all the icky/suspect marine life. And you have it ALL to yourself-- maybe 3 or 4 people a day walk by! Some days the surf is up and others the lake is like glass. The town of St. Joe is the perfect distance away if you are a runner or bring your bikes. It is exactly two miles from the house to the north edge of downtown (we have measured it). There are nice restaurants and shops in town, especially the toy store. St. Joe has a great public library with nice programs. Walk on the bluff, have pizza at the train station, visit the carousel, throw pennies in the fountain, watch the sunset from one of the swings on the bluff, rent a bike, etc. etc. We love this vacation rental so much, we want to keep it all to ourselves! But since we can't rent it the whole summer, and it really IS wonderful, it makes sense to share it...........May it hold the same charm for others as it does for us.

We stayed here in August 2010 with our son and golden retreiver. The house was the perfect size for us. It was clean and stocked with everything you might need. There was not much of a view of the lake from inside the house due to the trees beyond the bluff, but when you got down to the beach it was amazing. Very private, and a perfect place to let your dog and kids run wild in the waves. Also a great place to watch the sunsets. It's important to know that the steps to the beach (117 of them) are very steep. You must be in good shape and make sure you descend them with everything that you need for the next few hours, as running back up is not very convienent. The owner was very helpful and communication was great. I would recommend this beach house!

We rented the cottage the week of our wedding, July 7th, 2010. We had a private ceremony on the beach and it was perfect!! The cottage was very comfortable and felt like home by the time we left.
