Why the Owner Chose Oak Island
I grew up spending the summers in what was then Ft. Caswell, Yaupon Beach and Long Beach. I made many friends from other cities in NC and SC and Va that impacted my life. They became life long friends and provided many good memories. I hope to provide this opportunity to someone else by providing a comfortable cottage at an afforddable price. I began renting this cottage on a weekly basis in the summer of 2010 and I hope that our rentors will become like "family" and return here year after year to make more new memories.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Our house is three blocks from the public boat ramp for those who bring their boats. The small marina a few blocks from our house will let you put your jet ski in the water there. There is plenty of room to park your boat next to the cottage. We are close to public parks and walking trails as well as bike trails. We are within walking distance to the ocean front and the beach as well as near public access parking. We are right in the center of the town near restaurants, shops, and the grocery store. There is a Food Lion card in the cottage for your use at the grocery store to enable you to get customer discounts. There is no smoking in our house. There are no pets allowed. It has been totally renovated inside this past year and has new "green" appliances inside. The air conditioning system is new in 2010. We are only a few feet from the Inland Waterway. We are five minutes from the 2 fishing piers. Ten minutes to Southport. 30 minutes to Wilmington. 60 minutes to Myrtle Beach SC. A short ferry ride to Bald Head Island. We are only 20 minutes from 30 golf courses. It's ten minutes to the local Gun Range Ye Olde Gun Club. Enjoy kayaking, boating, swimming, biking, fishing, movies, fitness centers, museums, antiques, seafood and more. Take the car ferry to Ft. Fisher from Southport and take your children or grandchildren to visit the NC Aquarium. In Wilmington there is a Serpentarium, a Train museum, a children's museum, and even more for your children and you to visit.

Owner's Map of Oak Island
We have owned this house since '89 and also own the large yellow house next door where we raised our family.(since '75). We hope our guests enjoy staying here on Oak Island as much as we have. Oak Island has grown a lot in size and popularity in the last 30 years. One of our favorite area things is The N.C. Fourth of July Festival which is held yearly in Southport with events also held on the island. For over 50 years we owned and operated the shopping center in the center of town at the stop light. We retired in 2002 and we currently lease the buildings to other merchants. This is a family friendly beach with oceanfront public access. There are several restaurants here that are run by locals who grew up in the Southport- Oak Island area. My favorite is the Jolly Roger. Two others, Jones Seafood and Oak Island Restaurant also serve local catch seafood. `The area where our cottage is located is called Long Beach. (once called Tranquil Harbor subdivision)Since we retired we have moved to Florida and currently reside in Lakeland. We have one grandson and spend the summers with him in North Carolina. My husband is a retired diesel engineer as well as a retired merchant. I have continued my second career as a freelance writer and commute to my office in Orlando via my computer.I still love to walk the strand at our beachfront and watch my grandson jump the waves and run after the seagulls as he feeds them bread. The best times of my life have been spent at this beach and I hope that some of yours will be, too. Remember: A BAD DAY AT THE BEACH IS BETTER THAN A GOOD DAY AT HOME! Feel free to reccomend your favorite restaurant to the next renters by leaving a message in our book. Also tell them about any tourist site you might have enjoyed.

This was our second time this year at the beach house...It was our tenth anniversary vacation away together, and we were greeted by the owner, and a bottle of sparkling grape juice and two chilled fluted glasses!!!We had a wonderful time again!!!The trip was made so special by the owner and the house was perfect as always. We were close to everything and yet it was very quiet and private! This place is like being in a different world, where you can relax, refresh,or go out and take in everything! There are plenty of things to do,and sights to see,yet if you truly want to unwind and enjoy your privacy you have it here!Still can't beat the house, the prices, the place, and of course the people who own the house.Out of sight---Fantastic.Stay here once and you will keep on coming back.

We had a good time the first time at this location. The house was clean and accommodating. We especially liked the washer and dryer (very convenient). Even though it's just 2 bedroom, our party of 8 slept comfortably. Definitely worth the price!
Owner response:thanks! We hope you visit with us again soon!

My family and I stayed at this property June 18th through 25th and had an amazing time. The home was very nice and updated and was very accommodating to all our needs. The owner was very friendly and even greeted us upon arrival. It was very nice to know that she was near by if needed. Also, the home was very child friendly. The owner even had books and games at the property for us that was driven around my childrens ages. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay at your property. We will definately suggest Meme's to anyone traveling to the coast of NC. :) We'll definately be coming back in the future!!
Owner response:Thanks for staying with us. We hope you will stay with us every year and enjoy making Oak Island a 2nd home.

Our family of four stayed for a few days during April 2011. House is cozy and fun, with bright colors and interesting decor (fun sinks and faucets and lighting fixtures) throughout. Lots of books and games for kids and adults. My husband and son took ferry over to Fort Fisher to do some surf fishing, we used the very nice little rec center in town for some exercise classes, and enjoyed some lovely days at the beach. It was nice to have grocery store and restaurants just a few blocks away. Owner very easy to work with. We really appreciated someone willing to rent for a few days and on short notice and at a reasonable price. Highly recommend.

The photos are good, but the rooms are larger than they appear...This house looks and is better than the pictures, there are no hidden flaws in this house or outside! We had a great time, and it was so peaceful and quiet! We were also close to everything and enjoyed the beach and crabbing. The owners are really nice also. This house looks like something you see on hgtv,it is magnificent in and out and the rates are unbeatable. We hope to return there and also would refer anyone to do so.The location of the house is perfect...I used to clean for a living and this house was spotless,so if you are picky and thrifty and enjoy your privacy, but like to remain close enough to get to everything in minutes this house will be just right for you too.

This was our first family vacation to Oak Island. The cottage was beautiful and well maintained, in a nice quiet neighborhood, the perfect spot for a family vacation. The owners were very pleasant and made our stay all the more enjoyable. We plan to stay here again. We highly recommend this vacation rental to any family who is looking for a nice quiet get away, its only a short drive to the beach and the grocery store, putt putt and restaurants are close by as well. A great big thank you to everyone who made our stay so wonderful.

This was our first trip to Oak Island and we loved it! This house and the owner is fabulous. The location of the home couldn't be any better. The home is close to the beach, grocery, restaurants and shopping. The owner was quick to respond with any questions or concerns. We have already rebooked for the 2011 year.

This is a must rent! Pictures and description of the Beach House were perfect. Owners were very pleasant to work with. All our questions were answered quickly and stay made easy. Street is nice and quiet and close to everything. Grocery store is right at the end of the street and right next to coffee shop, beach store, rental shop, ice cream and putt putt!! Plus a great place to stay for the tennis enthusiast! Courts right down the street and locals welcomed us to join. (which we did!!) Captain Stanleys has great seafood and the Marina was perfect for keeping our jet ski docked and ready. (small reasonable fee) We WILL rent again!!
