Casa Julia is a new house in a four house gated courtyard, the entrance to which is through a huge wooden antique door with portico and bovida ceiling. The courtyard is lined with attractive plantings with a central fountain. The architectural design is both contemporary and traditional Mexican with beautiful tile floors, kitchen and bathrooms.
The soft tones of the off white walls gives it a wonderful feeling of airiness as well as a great background to hang original art work. The house is a three story with living room, dining room and half bathroom on the main floor. There is a small private patio off the breakfast/dining area which is ideal for morning coffee or breakfast. The next or second floor has the master and twin bedrooms with balconies and a common sitting room area between these rooms. The third floor has the queen bedroom with large sitting room/office between it and its own outside patio. All bedrooms have their own bathrooms.
There is a laundry room off the patio on this floor which leads up to the roof garden which has a built in wet bar, patio table and chairs as well as deck chairs to relax in. From here there is a magnificent view of the historic centre as well as other lovely town views. The patio is also a great place to enjoy the early morning sun as well as indulging in drinks and dinner whilst savoring the amazing skies at sunset.
The house is fully furnished with good quality furnishings. The kitchen has a microwave, coffee maker, toaster and blender. There is a small bar area, with stools, attached to the kitchen for casual meals or drinks.

Year Purchased: 2009
I was born and educated in the UK. After completing my training in physiotherapy and acupuncture, I worked for a few years in London and then moved to Vancouver, Canada. I then worked in my own private practices in Vancouver and on Salt Spring Island, BC. Since the age of 16 I have also studied art in both the UK and Vancouver. I’ve painted since my twenties and have shown and sold my work in galleries in Vancouver and on Salt Spring Island, B.C., Canada. I also enjoy working in mixed media.
Why the Owner Chose Colonia San Antonio
I was drawn to San Miguel because of my love of art. My interest was peeked when an ex patient of mine started to visit the town in her late seventies and took up painting. When she moved permanently, I felt I had to visit and take a look for myself. As soon as I arrived I loved everything about it, including the lovely climate as well as the feeling of being so alive!! I bought Casa Julia on my first visit!
The Unique Benefits of this House
Upon entering this particular house I was overcome with a feeling of calmness and tranquility. The fireplaces in each of the bedrooms and living room give the house a feeling of coziness when needed. Having coffee, meals or drinks on the patios is a delight. I was very much drawn to the neighborhood of Colonia San Antonio where I bought the house because it is a 10 to 15 minute walk to the jardin and historic Centro (which has the Parroquia, the Biblioteca, public library, Bellas Artes, Teatro Angela Peralta, craft market and a lot more). It is also an attractive 10 minute walk to the Instituto Allende. There is easy access to all art, language, alternative health, cooking classes and other numerous activities whilst staying in this lovely town. This neighborhood is a little bit out of the main hub which affords it a feeling of a country town, but the house’s roof top allows a fantastic view of the historic centre. The atmosphere here is quiet, friendly and delightful with bougainvillea lined streets. Just 5 minutes away by foot there are some good restaurants and the huge San Juan de Dios market.
