The Only Rental in the Heart of Downtown Harpers Ferry
- Minimum stay:Contact owner
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This is the only vacation rental located in the heart of historic downtown Harpers Ferry, and in the middle of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. This one-of-a-kind vacation rental is located in a 2-1/2 story brick federal-period building built in the 1830's, and renovated in 2004-2005. The house shares the building with a boutique wine shop (Harpers Ferry Wine & Gourmet) and a family-style restaurant (Secret Six Tavern). The house was originally 2 townhouses, and the center walls were removed in the 1970s to create a large open space on the 1st floor. While the house's exterior painting scheme reflects this original configuration and looks like 2 separate units, the vacation rental spans both spaces (see photo). The building was used during the civil war by both Confederate and Union Armies, primarily as an infirmary/hospital, and is a stop on the Harpers Ferry Ghost Tour.
The first floor of the house features a large open living room/dining room, a full modern kitchen, 1/2 bath, and a large porch with fantastic mountain and river views and views of Harpers Ferry gap. The inside space features hard-wood floors, exposed brick walls, an exposed beam ceiling (many of the beams are original hand-hewn), and large windows looking onto the mountains and the Potomac River. There is a TV, DVD player, VCR, games and toys, and a 10-seat dining table on the 1st floor. A highchair is available upon request. In addition to new beds and living room furniture, the house is decorated in fantastic period antiques.
The second floor has 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths and a laundry room w/ full-sized washer and dryer, and offers views of the Potomac River. The master bedroom has a Queen bed and a comfortable full-size futon (comfortable for 1 adult or 2 children). The second bedroom has a Queen bed, and the 3rd bedroom has a twin/full bunk bed (twin on top; full on bottom). The configuration is ideal for two families (4 adults and up to 5 kids), 2-3 couples, or 6-7 friends! All three bedrooms have TVs and DVD players and comfy sheets, mattresses and pillows.
The building sits atop a steep hill, and there are 65 stairs leading down to the 2 parking spaces reserved for the vacation rental in the rear of the building. The front-door to the house is at street-level, so door-to-door drop-off of luggage is possible.

Our extended family, including 2 small children, enjoyed a 3 day stay in this charming, comfortable historic home. The trains were a delight to all of us. We also enjoyed evening strolls around the quiet streets of Harper's Ferry. We hiked along the C&O canal to the Weverton Cliffs trail and back, which was a great day hike. The owners are very welcoming and available to guests to answer questions or address problems. The home is clean, well-maintained with a well stocked kitchen. We look forward to another visit in the future!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My sisters and cousins rented this house for our yearly Girls Weekend Getaway. This is the perfect house for a weekend getaway with friends or for even a romantic weekend with your significant other. The house is spacious and charming, and it's well decorated and furnished with comfortable furnishings and some quirky pieces of art (Lincoln's painting and his wandering eyes). My family and I have rented alot of houses throughout the years and this house is the most well-equipped one thus far. It even has a hair-dryer which many times I forget to pack for a trip! Jill was extremely accommodating and gracious hostess. We stopped by her shop when we arrived to thank her for the rental and she told us to call her if we needed anything, but the house had everything, so we were just fine! Would definitely recommend the house to friends and anyone who wants to stay in an historic town in charming house.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We can only rate this on a scale of 1-5 on VRBO.com, but this amazing getaway would be a 10! Absolutely a home away from home; everything you would ever need! Upon arrival, owners left a bottle of Conde Villar Alentejano red wine as a welcome gift, as they are owners of the connected Harper's Ferry Wine & Gourmet Shop next door. This was absolutely a class act; very clean and comfortable 3 bed rooms with 2 full bathrooms upstairs, 1/2 bath on first floor for entertaining, very spacious well stocked kitchen. Historical area, boutiques for shopping. Warming pellet stove in the entertaining area, books, puzzles, historical art on all walls throughout home, binoculars for mountain views. In addition, they provided a comprehensive book containing information on the operation and facility workings of the home. Overall, this home is beautiful; inside is redone with natural fine woodwork, hardwood floors, wooden staircase, living room brick walls with 4 spacious windows that overlook Harper's Ferry Train Station & breathtaking mountain & river views. We would definitely LOVE to come back.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

My college roommates and I recently stayed here for our first "girls wine weekend" and we had an amazing time. The house is great and it sits right in town. We were able to enjoy everything the town had to offer and we were only 15 minutes away from the wineries in Virginia. I highly recommend this house.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway.

This place was perfect. Right in downtown HF, you can go to any of the shops or nearby trails. And it was just far enough away from DC to feel like a true getaway. Hoping to return soon!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

We stayed 24-26 August 2012 and the moment my husband opened the front door and simply said "Wow" I knew we where all in for a pretty good time. A lovely welcome note and a bottle of wine greeted us, which immediately brought more smiles to our faces. The house was roomy and cozy for two families equaling 8 people. We hardly had to purchase household and kitchen items since everything was already stocked. Stepping out the front door you literally feel as if you have gone back in time. We will definitely returning and hopefully soon! We rented this home for 2 nights with 2 other couples during the July 4th week and we had a fantastic time. The home is so clean and a really nice set up, perfect for the six of us. Its right downtown and within walking distance of everything. The home is clean and has everything that you could need including games, books and each room has its own TV! We experienced a problem with the air conditioning unit in one of the bedrooms and the owners came over right away and it was fixed within the hour! Yes, the train does come by quite often but only a few times during the evening. I am a light sleeper and with the ac unit running in our room it didn't bother me at all.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
This is the ONLY vacation rental located in the heart of downtown historic Harpers Ferry and in the middle of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. It offers fantastic views, historic charm and significance, and prime location. It is amongst museums, shops & restaurants, steps from the Potomac & Shenandoah Rivers, the C&O canal towpath, Jefferson Rock (which Thomas Jefferson declared was 'worth a trip across the Atlantic'), Virginius Island, the Appalachian Trail, Maryland Height and Loudoun Heights. Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races is a short drive away, as are a number of Virginia Wineries. There is a large porch that looks onto the mountains, the Potomac River, and Harpers Ferry gap. Kids (and train-loving grown-ups) love to watch the trains pass on the very active rail line and you can even ride the train to this destination, as it is in walking distance to the Harpers Ferry train station, which services both MARC and AMTRAK. The house is bicycle friendly (there is ample space inside to store bikes), and being within walking distance to the C&O canal towpath, is a perfect spot for towpath riders. If you don't bring your bike with you, there are bike rentals right in-town. There are fantastic hikes, from easy to strenuous, right outside the front door (no need to drive). The house offers a large open floor plan perfect for larger gatherings, and the whole home is clean, nicely furnished and maintained. We strive for customer service and try to provide everything that a guest might need, including detergents and hand soaps, sugar, salt, pepper, basic spices, coffee filters, toilet paper, papertowels, napkins, etc., etc., etc. Our guests tell us over and over that this is the most well-stocked vacation rental that they have ever visited.
