We often use VBRO, and are very careful to research where we stay. The positive reviews are right on. While potential renters should understand that while trains go by, floors might be a bit un level and the beds creak, the owners clearly understand what it takes to have consistant excellent ratings. Superb linens, bottled water, ample and comfortable seating and a long list of other things that makes this property such that you would want to return....Oh yes, clearly a "one of a kind" location.

Absolutely Fabulous.

Guest: Beachmom (Massachusetts)
Date of Stay: 04/19/12 Review Submitted: 04/23/12

This historic house was beautiful, well maintained, clean and comfortable. It is right on the main street in Harper's Ferry. There are shops and restaurants steps from the front door. The view from the back deck is fantastic. We ate at the Secret Six Tavern, which was nice, and at Hannah's Train Depot, which had excellent barbecue. We were two moms, four kids, and two dogs who came to Harper's Ferry for the history, and this house was perfect for us. The kitchen had everything we needed, the living/ dining room was large and comfortable. There was a flat screen TV in the living room, and TVs in the bedrooms, so the kids were happy. We went on the Harper's Ferry Ghost Tour, and this house was on the tour, so it was great fun. We did not have any ghostly encounters in the house, though. Nothing went bump in the night. We would definitely stay here again, and recommend this to our friends and relatives.

Nights at the Museum

Guest: Maria S.
Date of Stay: 10/20/11 Review Submitted: 10/24/11

Wow! This place is fantastic, right in the heart of Harper's Ferry, a museum town in and of itself. I took my family from 5 years of age to 82 and every single person was delighted with this home - from the modern amenities in the kitchen (a coffee grinder too!) to the incredible vista from the back porch, from wifi and cable to board games and books in the cupboards. Fully stocked with plates, glasses, linens, etc. The place is huge! The main floor invites you to sit down, converse, interact, and play games just as a family should. We maxed out the number of beds and never, ever felt crowded. All the beds were comfortable, the pellet stove was easy to use, the sound of the trains took most of the adults a night to get used to, the kids no time at all! We stayed three nights and could've easily tacked on another three more. It was wonderful being able to step out and be in the heard of everything. For the shopper, the people-watcher and the outdoorsy folks, the easy strollers and the mountain climbers - something for everyone, all just outside our door. Everyone in town was marvelous. Jill was quick to respond to all emails and phone calls - very personable and professional. I greatly appreciated the binder filled with detailed information about the house, as well as guides on what to do in and around the area. It made activity planning that much easier. I am at odds with recommending this place to anyone else because we're definitely coming back, and I don't want it to be booked!!!

Just Left This Wonderful Home. You should STAY HERE

Guest: Paul (Bradenton, Florida )

This is my first review of a VRBO listed property and I can't say enough good things about it. Clean, nice furniture, all the little things like coffee and salt and pepper that you usually have to go buy. Plent of paper products. Lots of pillows. Close to everything downtown. Breafast and dinner places within a few feet. Owner Jill was a very very nice lady. We had our four children 10, 12, and twin 11 year olds with us and they had a blast. Great price. Great vacation. Will come again. Paul & Susan

Poker with the family

Guest: twolivebru (Richmond, Virginia)
Date of Stay: 06/17/11 Review Submitted: 06/24/11

We went to Harper's Ferry so that I could play poker at the Charles Town Hollywood Casino. It is quite possibly the best situation for a poker player possible. I played 30 hours of poker at the casino, and yet my family had plenty of things to do over the weekend. There were plenty of shops, museums, hiking and tours available for the family, while I was taking advanage of the very loose poker games at the Charles Town Casino, which was only 10 minutes away. This is the best situation for a poker player looking to play but allowing his or her family to have a wonderful get away at the same time. There are 40 tables open on Friday and Saturday, which insures you will find a good game to play, but the atmosphere at Harpers Ferry will allow your family to be entertained, even if you are trying to grind out a profit at the poker table. Highly recommend the house in Harpers Ferry for those who are looking to play some poker, and let their family have a good vacation as well. The owners of the house are extremely hospitable, can't wait to go back.

Perfect girls trip

Our yearly trip couldn't have been better with the rental of Mountainside. We ( eight of us ) go away once a year and this home was so warm and the best stocked that we have ever seen. The owners were so kind and answered all our questions. Once we parked we didn't have to move the cars as there were plenty of things to do within walking distance, we really like the ghost walk. So much fun that we'll be going back in a few years and we'll be staying there again. Thanks for a wonderful time. Jo

My girlfriends and I had a girls' weekend in the house last week and had such a wonderful time! The house is beautiful and so charming. Everything was very clean. I felt like I was staying at a friend's place. The house is also very spacious, so we all fit nicely. And downtown Harper's Ferry is perfect for a getaway. I can't wait to go back.

We celebrated our 12 year old daughter's birthday here this past weekend and let her invite a couple of her friends. We had a wonderful weekend of ghost stories, hiking, history lessons, and all enjoyed just hanging out in this beautifully restored home. Having stayed here before, we already knew how well appointed and supplied this place is. The owners have thought of everything, which takes the stress off of packing up for a quick getaway weekend. Harpers Ferry is a lovely bustling town during the day, and then is quiet and delightfully spooky at night - perfect for our amateur group of ghost hunters. Warning: If you stay here, you will be haunted by thoughts to come back as soon as you can. :) Jill & Rich - thanks for another wonderful stay and the great bottle(s) of wine.

This house is a wonderful place to escape for a weekend one more. It's very close to several trails and the home was surprisingly well appointed. The only thing that could bother some people are the trains that pass at night but even the light sleepers in our group slept well. The owner was great to deal with. I highly recommend this home.

Coziest New Year's!

Guest: Kasey (Richmond)
Date of Stay: 12/30/10 Review Submitted: 01/02/11

Our family went for 2 nights to ring in the New Year and this place FAR exceeded our expectations. The views are incredible and the warm feeling greets you when you first walk in the door! The owners go far and beyond what you would expect to be in a rental. You truly feel like you are in their home (not in a rental). The linens and towels were like staying in a 5 star hotel and they have done a great job maintaining the character of the house but still having modern amenities! Having a 21 month old, the house is extremely child friendly, had toys and movies to entertain her and was almost completely child proof! Thanks Jill - we'll be back!

What a Way to Ring in the New Year!!

My sister and I surprised our parents and took them to this wonderful home in Harpers Ferry. This place is fantastic - when you walk through the front door, it is as if you have walked back in time into a museum, but you get the stay there! The owners have done a perfect job of marrying old historical charm with modern conveniences, with nothing feeling out of place. I have stayed in many rental homes and never have I had an owner stock the home with so many supplies: paper towels, spices, tissues, tp, loads of plush towels and linens, etc. We loved watching the busy railway station buzzing with activity and trains. We are already planning our next trip. My kids had a blast climbing up to Jefferson's Rock and the hilltop cemetery. The O'Be Joyfull Ghost Tour is also a must. Jill & Rich - THANKS so much for making our stay so enjoyable.

It surpassed our expectations

Guest: Laura (Arnold, Maryland)
Date of Stay: 12/10/10 Review Submitted: 12/14/10

The moment our family walked in the door it felt like home. The pictures do not do this wonderful home justice. We were traveling during an unexpected ice and snow storm and Jill kept in touch with us via telephone to keep us updated on the road conditions to ensure our safety. The bottle of wine waiting for us upon our arrival was a very welcome site after the drive. The pellet stove made the home warm and cozy. The heated floors in the upstairs bathroom and kitchen were wonderful. The kitchen was well stocked and allowed us to enjoy meals without having to leave the comfort of home. I would definately recommend this home for a girl's retreat, a couple's get away or a family vacation

I can not say enough about Jill and Rich's home. It is FANTASTIC! Like the other reviews on this site, sometimes you don't know what to expect, but this FAR EXCEEDED our expectations! The house was incredibly clean, well appointed, and no detail was overlooked. Jill and Rich obviously take a lot of pride in their home and are incredibly accomodating and responsive. Anytime I had a question, Jill responded quickly and thoroughly and was incredibly gracious. We had a "girls" weekend and it was just perfect. I hope to return someday with my husband and daughter so they can experience the beauty of Harpers Ferry and enjoy this beautiful home in a perfect location!

We made reservations at the last minute, just trying to find a "weekend getaway" and while the description sounded nice and the reviews were all positive , we were still wary of what we would experience. We couldn't have been more pleased with the home, from the welcome note and bottle of wine from Jill & Rich, to the very descriptive and informative book on the home and Harpers Ferry. Jill was a pleasure to meet (they own the Wine Store next door) and we felt that if we would have had any problems she would have dealt with them right away (we didn't have any) Sitting on the deck in the late evening was a true pleasure, listening to the trains going by. The restaurant right below was very good as well as the one directly across the street, sit in the rock garden when you eat there, very nice. Low key and beautiful. Thank You for a great weekend.

My family and I enjoyed our stay enough to extend our visit by one day. The house was well appointed with nice fluffy bath towels. Walking and shopping were so easy since the house is situated right in the heart of the Historic District. The owners were accomodating and hospitable (complimentary bottle of wine)! The kitchen was well stocked but could use a salad spinner and coffee grinder. I would definitely rent this home again.

This is a wonderful place to stay in Harpers Ferry. The property is right downtown and steps away from many shops and restaurants, not to mention the historical Lower Town. We have small children and were completely comfortable at the house. The kids loved the bunk beds!! The house is beautiful and everything that you need is there. We will definitely stay again!!!

Three couples shared this great residence for a long weekend. It was a perfect getaway. The location was outstanding -- walk or bike to the C&O Canal bike path or Appalachian trail. Lots of historical options in the area. Shopping. Plenty to do. The residence itself was fantastic - lots of space to spread out - big living area, fully equipped kitchen, nice deck with a view in the back. 3 very nice bedrooms. Couldn't have asked for more. Highly recommended.

What a find ! Sometimes you are not sure what you are getting based on photos and an owners' description. This was everything and more.We booked for 5 days and were fortunate that the house was available for an additional 2 days. Only a bit more than an hour from DC, an hour from Gettysburg and in the heart of Civil War History...not to mention on the Appalacian Trail and inside the Harpers Ferry Park. The house itself was more than you could ask for. Tons of room (we were 2 couples) ,spotlessly clean and all the amenities...even binoculars to bird watch and a bottle of wine upon arrival. We thought about going to a Washington Capitals hockey game. Not only did the owners help us secure tickets, unbeknownst to us they went to Washington, got the tickets and slipped them under our door.We were kept busy every day and returned to an awesome house in a spectacular historic setting. Don't let the fact that you are over a tavern be a concern. You hear a bit of noise if you listened but if you were on the "bedroom" floor you couldn't hear a thing. Also, the tavern was quite charmining.A number of places to dine within a 2 minute walk. Would highly recommend!!!!

Just finished a weekend with friends at this beautiful house. It had everything we needed, was spacious, had a perfect porch looking at the mountains and Jill could not have been more helpful or friendlier. When we arrived, Jill and Rich had a pleasant note attached to a bottle of wine for us. It was a really nice touch and made us feel at home. We put the fireplace to use most of the weekend, which was crucial in the house. I had a correspondence with Jill for over a month and she was able to answer all of my questions and to work with me on everything. The house, the location and the owners made this a memorable experience! Thanks, Misha

Probably THE only place that you can rent in the historic district. Beautifully decorated and updated with the modern amenities. Easy walk to everything in Harpers Ferry and the bath towels are the greatest. It got cold when we stayed and the wood pellet fireplace was fantantic. Recommend this highly.

We (a few foreigners from all parts of the world) stayed at this home during MLK Weekend. It's a beautiful home with lots of space. The home is very convenient to the train (we traveled to Harpers Ferry via Marc Commuter train and back to Washington, DC via Amtrak) as well as to the lower town area (where all the action is for tourists and a good starting point for hiking trails). The fireplace/stove was wonderful for a dreary day.

We were in town and stayed only one night. The house is large and cozy and very very relaxing....very "mountain European-esk". The porch views are spectacular and rival the Hilltop House, which is closed now. It was very relaxing, charming and unforgettable. Our 8 year old son sat and watched the trains all evening and the next morning. We enjoyed our stay and would do it again. There are several restaurants around the house but we brought our own food and coffee. The kitchen is very large and nicely equipped. The pellet stove was wonderful.

A wonderful weekend experience. My husband and I traveled with our three children and fell in love with the area. The house is wonderful, warm, comfortable and relaxing. The view is fantastic. My youngest, age 3, enjoyed the trains as did we. The town is a lovely place to spend time. Easy hikes, nice shops and scary stories. The ghost tours are recommended by my family. The house itself is pleasant and the towels are wonderful.
