Everything you need right within walking distance!! The beautiful lake is right at your backdoor, rock slide was a BIG hit with the kids, 2 beautiful pools, fishing, boats, hiking, literally everything you could want! The home was beautiful and big. We had 4 families and everyone had their own corner of the house to go to with lots of space. It was the best family vacation we've ever had. We've gone to Gatlinburg, Gulf Shores and the Ozarks, this was definitely the BEST!! Thanks, Tom!

Our entire experience was excellent! The owners process for renting the cabin was thoughtful and stress-free. We have rented other properties using HomeAway and this was by far the best. The on-line description was exactly what we found and more. The hiking trails were magnificent!! The property was clean and well-maintained. The owners provided us with information on activities in the area, phoned to make sure that we arrived and all was well, and even complimented us on how well we left the property. I have recommended "Almost Heaven" to others and have already started planning our next trip!

I rented this house when I had a meeting at Big Canoe, it was beautiful and big and nicely furnished, we loved it, it is close enough to the gates to be easy for people not familiar with driving on curvy roads, it worked out great for my group

Fantastic Family Reunion

Our week was great especially since our three grown kids each had a separate bed & bath. Our 4 grand kids had a wonderful time playing at the beach & the three separate floors provided wonderful separation & privacy. The house was well appointed with TVs in each bedroom plus common areas of each floor. The hot tub was the focal point for the adults. Tom, you & Judi have a wonderful home that we know you are proud of & everyone said that the had such a wonderful time that they want to come back again. There are so many things to do within short driving, Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, Dahlonega with its quaint shops in the square, a state park near with a waterfall, & easy driving to Dawsonville to the Mall for the ladies. For those considering a home, you definitely should seriously consider this one. It met all our needs & expectations.

We had the most amazing time at Big Canoe! The house was beautiful, well decorated and had a very well stocked kitchen. We grilled out every night and played board games with the family. We had 10 people staying together and never felt on top of each other. There was plenty of space to spread out (i.e. the little kids down stairs watching a movie - adults upstairs playing cards and enjoying beverages). Comfortable beds too! The short walk to the beach made it easy for everyone to go swimming on their own schedule. The water slide and the hiking trials just added to our fun. Tom was very helpful and ready to answer any questions. We will definetly go back. Maybe a girls trip will be in the future!?!

We had 7 children ages 9-15 and 5 adults at Almost Heaven for a week in August, 2010. The house was perfect for our group. We felt very safe letting the children go exploring and swimming as a group. The house was very convenient to the lake and had a great layout so that they could entertain themselves, including the hot tub, foosball table and game/TV room. Big Canoe was charming and beautiful as well. The people were very friendly. We love it!

Great Weekend Getaway

My family and I had a great weekend in Big Canoe. This is my second time at "Almost Heaven". The first time was for a weekend away with the girls. This time I brought the whole family. The pictures do not do it justice. It is conveniently located. Just a quick walk down the path on hill and we were at the beach. The kids (and adults) had a blast going down the rock slide, playing volleyball, and going on numerous paddle boat and canoe rides. The house is nicely decorated and fully stocked with anything you could need. The owners are so helpful and very accommodating. I can't say enough good things about our experience. Highly recommended!

What a beautiful home with a prime location overlooking the beach! Our children, ages 5 and 11 enjoyed every minute of our vacation. We grilled out each night, swam in the pool, slid down the rock slide and enjoyed lots of quality time together. We didn't turn the tv on all week! The house is great...fully stocked, tastefully decorated and in a PRIME location close to all amenities in Big Canoe. We will be back! Girls Getaway weekend

There were 4 of us who spent the weekend at Almost Heaven and it lived up to its name. Everything was perfect. Beautiful house, comfortable beds, roomy, and a gorgeous setting. Tom was so nice and wanted to make sure everything was ok. It was such a treat to be able to relax in such a wonderful place. We all live only about 45 minutes from Big Canoe and yet it seemed that we were a million miles away. We have alreay booked a week this summer.

Our first of town family Christmas at Almost Heaven was a great 4 days. The christmas tree, decorations, made it special. Great view and accomodations with plenty of room for 7 adults. The condition was excellent with everything you need. Cozy fireplace with decks for an outdoor breath of fresh air. You will not be disapointed.

Our group of 9 came to Big Canoe for a wedding, and we are so glad that we booked this house for our weekend getaway. It's a beautiful, well-equipped home suitable for a single couple or a group. It rained all weekend, so we were stuck in the house, but it was a great place to have to be if you had to be inside. We are thinking about coming back during the summer when we can take advantage of the recreational activities around the development. Thanks for letting us stay at your home!!

What you see in these photos is exactly what you get. This home is beautiful, spacious, and immaculately kept. My family of eleven stayed here for our yearly retreat and were thoroughly pleased with our stay. It is located both far enough from the busy city to experience the quiet beauty of nature--we saw deer in the backyard each morning--and close enough to the busy city to enjoy all of the attractions Atlanta/surrounding cities have to offer. The homeowner was also very helpful in providing information about what to see and do while we visited. I would certainly recommend this home to anyone.

Best Vacation Ever

We spent a week in Almost Heaven, and we all had a blast. We were celebrating my dad's 60th birthday -- there were 6 adults and 4 kids. The layout of the house is wonderful -- three floors allow you to find peace and quiet at any time of the day. The location is perfect, close to the golf course, park, tennis, and water. We made road trips to Amicalola Falls, Lake Lanier, and Six Flags White Water (and the Marietta Diner). Tom made everything easy, and I'd recommend this house to anyone.

We rented Almost Heaven for two weeks, May 2nd to 16th May 2009. Our friends who had never been to America could not believe their eyes when we entered the property. It was beautifully kept, clean and tidy and much more than we expected. It is a credit to the owners Tom and Judi. We had a fantastic time in Big Canoe it is difficult to describe the property, we feel to give the house the full justice it deserves you have to see it with your own eyes. We hope we will be returning to Big Canoe next year, without a doubt we will book Almost Heaven, which was heaven to live in. Tom was very helpfull and telephoned us on a couple of occasions to recommend various places to visit. we travelled 4,500 miles that day and it was well worth the journey. We stayed at Almost Heaven this past weekend and it was even better than we remembered from our previous visit in this house. The accommodations are perfect - plenty of kitchen utensils, towels, etc. The king size b'ment bed is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept it! The view is wonderful. We stayed with three other couples at Almost Heaven to attend a Wedding. The house was perfect, lots of room for all of us and easy to find kitchen utensils and a few items we forgot to bring. Deck was comfortable and guys enjoyed watching football and hooking up to the internet without any problems. We are trying to find another weekend when we are all available to come back. It is such a short drive to get away and feel so comfortable and relaxed.

Our last minute decision to visit Big Canoe turned out to be one of the best decisions we've ever made. "Almost Heaven" was the absolute perfect vacation house for our gathering. We didn't realize how important the location of this house was until we arrived and realized that the six teenagers in our party could WALK to the beach and to the pool. There was no driving necessary the entire weekend! The house itself was so warm and cozy; we completely felt at home, and treated it as such. It was so peaceful to sit out on the deck in the evening and just look at the vast amount of stars; something that we don't do at home. We took the time to pause and just enjoy the nature and beauty that was all around us, each in our own way. We enjoyed the sun, the beach and the pool from early in the day until late in the evening. The hot tub was a bonus for us all in the cooler evening hours. The weekend went by too quickly; we look forward to visiting Big Canoe and "Almost Heaven" for our future family gatherings.

Our week here far exceeded expectations. Not only was the house very clean, well furnished, and filled with amenities but it was an excellent location with a back path to the lake and pool and water slide. That was very convenient since I had three grandchildren there and did not have to load them into a car every time we wanted to swim or canoe. We made an excursion to nearby Amnicalola Falls. The grocery store was convenient for quick trips. I would go back to this home for another trip without a second thought. Tom and Judi were excellent to work with and very accomodating.

Myself and my family travelled from Ireland and England and stayed at this beautiful house on our way back to Atlanta Airport. We were only there two nights and wished it were more. My Ladies' Tennis Team came to Big Canoe for the weekend; we loved it. The home is lovely, we were happy to just sit and sip and enjoy the views. Accomodated 9 of us perfectly, the kitchen is fabulous and the fireplace was used nightly, along with the 8 person hottub. The tennis is great and there are indoor courts for rainy days. We found the restaurants VERY good and reasonable too. We are planning a trip again, in the fall and will definitely stay here. It is so appropriately named...ALmost Heaven

"Almost Heaven" served as a comfortable, spacious setting for our annual family reunion. Several rooms spread across three floors provided more than enough choices for cuddling with a book, dancing to music, playing games, or chatting by the fire. The 10 of us made good use of the hot tub, bbq grill, baseball diamond, and hiking trails. It was an enjoyable vacation made even better by the O'Connor's graciousness.

The house was a great set-up for two families. The ammenities were great - better than any other house we have rented! The view from the house was spectacular. Tom and Judi have a beautiful home in Big Canoe, Georgia. The rental is very accomodating upto three families and you feel like you never left your own home. The setting is very serene and private. Tom and Judi were very accommodating during our visit at Big Canoe. We had a family gathering to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday. The weather was perfect and the house was very nice. The house was absolutely perfect! We had a large group, and we had tons of room for everyone! We enjoyed having access to the beach, loved the hot tub and the men enjoyed the foosball table. The O'connor's house in Big Canoe was all we expected and more. Our golf group had a wonderful 3 days there (even though the creek course ate us for lunch)! The foosball table was a huge hit, and the 3 outdoor decks were great to sit and look out over the water and mountains. We'll definitely try to make it back there!

The O'Connors were terrific to work with. The house is very well stocked compared to the Big Canoe rental agency we have used in the past. Tom & Judi are great! From the time I emailed requesting information on the house, until we arrived back home, they have gone above and beyond to be helpful. Directions, recommendations for restaurants, etc. We were there from 9/15/05 thru 9/18/05 for our son's wedding at the Chapel. On Thursday night, there were 5 of us to arrive, by Friday night, we slept 16 (by adding air mattresses and fold away beds), and Saturday we were back down to 6 (finally peace and quiet!) The house accomodated all of us well - that was no small feat considering everyone had to be dressed and at the rehearsal on Friday evening by 5 and most of us were at the Chapel by 3 p.m. on Saturday for pictures prior to the 5 p.m. wedding (and numerous out of town guests dropped by to change into dresses, suits, etc.) The house was well stocked, very clean, and comfortable. All of the guests commented on the comfort and quality of the furnishings, including the mattresses! (which was important to all of us, by the time we got to bed, we were exhausted). It was really hard to leave on Sunday - I was still deer hunting - everyone but me had seen deer. I guess I get to go back again soon to try again! If you are looking for the PERFECT house for your vacation, etc. - this is it!

My family was trying to find the "perfect place" to have a 50th Wedding Anniversary/Celebration and family reunion. We spent months trying to determine if there could actually be such a place....we found it. "Almost Heaven" is the perfect name for our five day stay. From the very beginning, Tom and Judi O'Connor were extremely helpful and a great resource with directions and advice for all of our scheduled day trips and activities. We rented several houses and condo's at Big Canoe to help accomodate our families. We went hiking, swimming, whitewater rafting, rode a train, horseback riding, golf, exploring the beautiful Georgia mountains, played games at night, and enjoyed every minute of every day at Big Canoe. The Appalachia Grill served a wonderful dinner for the 50th Anniv. celebration. The home was beautiful, spacious, had wonderful views, and plenty of room. This is a trip we will never forget. If you're looking for a similar experience, we highly recommend staying at the O'Connor's home.

After staying at this beautiful home in March of this year, we just had to return for a long weekend in August. Four couples enjoyed this beautiful home, hot tub and private bedrooms each with their own bathrooms! The kitchen was wonderfully equipped. We loved the walking trails and the view is spectacular. We enjoyed lots of games and ate too much good food. The well stocked kitchen helped make our weekend memorable. Tom & Judi made certain we had directions, instructions on the use of everything and even had a card and surprise gift for my wife's birthday awaiting our arrival. We loved it and we are looking forward to planning another trip here soon.
