  My wife and I stayed at this cottage in January. Many people have rated this place as 5 star. While it is comfortable and cozy, it is not 5-star accommodation. We felt it was worthy of 3 stars. The location was excellent. It is right on the beach and the view is mesmerizing. We fell asleep to the sounds of the ocean each night. The yard and courtyard were well kept and the property is gated. The property manager was very helpful and made the booking process easy. She responded promptly to our questions when we phoned her a couple of times in the days after our arrival. The kitchen is well equipped with everything from a toaster to a cookie sheets and is outfitted with nice stainless steel appliances. The beds are comfortable and wifi connection is excellent. There aren’t any closets, but hangers are provided so you can hang up your clothes on hooks on the bedroom doors and in the bathroom. We were a bit disappointed in some of the fixtures and furnishings and general cleanliness. The dining room table wobbles as the joint in the middle is cracked. I moved the coffee table to retrieve a coin and realized one of the legs is not attached. In terms of cleanliness, the basics were done and the linens, and furniture were clean. That said, we removed about a ¼ inch of dust off the ceiling fans. The shelf in the 2nd bedroom is similarly affected as was the fan over the stove. The window screens are in desperate need of cleaning, especially in the bathroom. The top of the dryer is rusted and some of the light switches didn’t work. A couple of other things to be aware of: 1) the barbeque is charcoal, not gas, which we found to be a problem when we got home after a long day and didn’t want to wait 3 hours for the coals to heat up 2) the place is not air conditioned We agree with the previous reviewer who indicated that maintenance is required! If we were to return to the North Shore we would seek alternate accommodation.

  Owner response: We were made aware of several issues which have now been corrected. The cottage has been completely updated and all maintenance and cleaning issues have been addressed and resolved.

  The setting is perfect and the cottage delightful. The kind of place you'd like to stay forever. However, it is seriously in need of some maintenance. Ceiling lights turned on and off in the middle of the night in both the living room and the bedroom, startling those asleep and causing concern that an electrical short could cause a fire. Throw rugs and pot holders were very dirty, as was stove top and kitchen floor. Property manager apologized for lack of dishwasher detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, charcoal, tiki torch fuel and light bulbs, but no action. Last straw was tree trimmers arriving at 8:30 am on last morning and restricing us to inside because of falling palm leaves and coconuts until 10 am. With an 11am check out time we lost our last day on the beach. So disappointing that such a wonderful spot was spoiled for us by unnecessary inconveniences.

  We had a great relaxing stay at the mission house. The front porch was fantastic...for coffee in the morning watching the sun come up and for cocktails in the evening watching the sun go down. The location was perfect...we never went out to dinner...went to Foodland and cooked in the kitchen which was well outfitted. We loved the fact we could park off the road and closing the gate made it a very private and safe feeling place. Would come back again and again. Thanks

  that is, if you like cockroaches & construction going on until midnight. there were cockroaches in the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, and even in the dishwasher! there are 2 house on this property. we were supposed to be in the house for 1 week, but left after 2 nights due to the noise of the remodel that was going on in the other house. they vacuumed until midnight, pounding nails, talking loudly. property manager was very rude and condescending.

  Owner response: To Future Guests: Please do not judge the property or the experience by the misstatements and inaccuracies this traveler has made. There were 5 stars provided by the previous guest and 75% are repeat guests so we must be doing something right! Some people you can not please no matter what is done. The property manager very much tried to help and was responsive. She called me several times to discuss what can be done to make him happy.. This is a very beautiful property on the beach (the North Shore is one of the most expensive real estate markets in Hawaii). I am the owner and spend a lot of time here and I do not live with cockroaches. We've been renting for years and never had any complaints like this. I would not let one bad review stop you from inquiring. Call the property manager yourself and see what a wonderful person she is. Sincerely, Owner

  I will just put it this way...THE BEST FAMILY VACATION WE HAVE EVER HAD!!! We are already planning our next trip back, and we will ONLY stay here!!! Mahalo North Shore!!!!

  We love this property. The grounds are beautiful and like a retreat in itself. We enjoyed our stay and enjoyed the visit to Oahu, HI. The little cottage house is very comfortable. Only problem we had is when we left to alarm the house. Just need to label the alarm box :) better. We would love to come and vacation next year. ALOHA!

  We just returned from our Oahu vacation and our Sunset Beach Bungalow was wonderful!! My husband always has such high expectations and is usually disappointed, but even he thought it was great. We loved the decor, the layout, the view, the privacy, security and most of all, the beach, just steps from our deck. Our three kids loved the outdoor shower, the huge couches, and all the amenities provided. We really couldn't have asked for anything more... If we were millionaires, we would snatch it up for ourselves, we loved it so much. Thanks for a perfect beach getaway!!

  This was a very clean and comfortable home right on the Sunset Beach, Waves crashing, A telescope to watch surfers and whales. A small lawn for tai chi.
