Hillside Beach, a newly renovated house, is located on a one-way street which serves only the homes on three blocks. It is a safe, quiet place to completely relax on vacation. Walk a few feet down to the water's edge and watch the birds, boats and just enjoy the quiet lapping of the water on an inlet of Long Island Sound.
A beautiful life-guard beach is a short walk away and is surrounded by interesting mansions.
There is no need for a car. With a permit, bicycles can be carried on the Metro-North train which goes to Milford, within three miles of Hillside Beach. Several good restaurants are within walking or biking distance and many will deliver food to you at Hillside Beach. Local taxi's are available night and day.
Summer weather is generally warm with short rain showers to keep the flowers around the house blooming all summer.
Built on a hill overlooking the ocean, the awesome view from inside and outside is breathtaking.
The open floor plan --kitchen, living room, dining area with door out to the deck has a cathedral ceiling and tall windows with magnificent ocean views.
The King-size Master Suite has its own bath with shower and opens out to a patio and terraced garden. Two bedrooms, one with a trundle bed and one with a queen, share a full bath.
Entry to the home is on the lower level with a powder room, coat closet, and laundry room off the lovely entry hall. There is a one-car garage.
Hillside Beach is just an hour and a half from New York City and one hour from Hartford, CT. Airports serving the area are JFK, LaGuardia, White Plains, and Hartford. Amtrak stops in New Haven and Metro-North stops in Milford, just 3 miles from Hillside Beach.
Train statons from Milford and New Haven are served by several taxi companies. Guests may use the owner's 5% discount for Enterprise car rentals.
Easy access to Interstate 95 makes Hillside Beach convenient for driving

I have had resort properties in Breckenridge, Colorado, West Haven, Connecticut and owned and operated a Bed and Breakfast in Ames, Iowa near Iowa State University, my alma mater. I provide consulting for clients who aspire to owning bed and breakfasts and investment real estate properties. I have lived in various parts of the U.S., traveled to many countries, and enjoyed guests from all over the world who stayed at my B&B and now visit Haven Retreat and Hillside Beach, my vacation house is in West Haven,CT.
Why the Owner Chose Milford
After owning several vacation properties in the Rocky Mountains, I wanted to have a vacation home near the ocean. This location is a secluded residential area between Milford and West Haven, CT and is far enough from major noisy roads and close enough to provide services and retail for all my needs. Several good restaurants are nearby and many others are within a few miles. Yale University provides cultural entertainment and has world-renown medical facilities. This seems like the perfect vacation spot for me and to share with like-minded families and individuals.
The Unique Benefits of this House
I enjoy the closeness to the ocean and the calm I feel when I look out at the water. The one-way street serving just the neighborhood adds to the calming effect. Everything in the house is brand new and the house is so efficiently furnished that clutter is not necessary. Besides the water view from the front of the house, the lovely yard behind the house lends itself to help me feel at one with nature. A cozy fire on a rainy or snowy day makes me feel at home on a quiet weekend away from city stress. Hillside Beach is an excellent retreat winter or summer.

My family have just returned from the most fantastic holiday in Milford. Hillside Beach was a real home from home, right down to the Christmas tree. We had everything we needed at hand, I managed to do all my holiday baking without a hitch. Avis was a pleasure to do business with, and made the organisation of our trip so much easier. She made sure we had everything we needed to celebrate the festive season. We were fortunate enough not to have to call upon John, although he obviously made himself known to us. It was very reassuring to know that help was just a couple of doors away if we needed it. The location could not have been better - just steps from the beach and a 5 minute drive to the store. My daughter was very pleased that we were only 8 minutes away from the Westfield Mall! The property itself was spotlessly clean and very well maintained. We were very lucky to manage to get seats on the North Pole Express, at Essex Steam Train Museum. That was a most magical experience, enjoyed by adults and children alike. We were also able to get to the Trolley Bus Museum at East Haven. They were trialling being open for the week after Christmas, which was a bonus for us. We also visited the Eli Whitney Museum in Hamden, which was so much better than we had hoped. However, you just can't beat skimming stones on the beach then stepping home for a hot chocolate. It is safe to say that everything exceeded our hopes and expectations.
Owner response:It was fun for me to prepare Hillside Beach for Tracey and her family by leaving a Christmas tree and a suitcase full of decorations and tree ornaments for the family to decorate the house themselves. They found that there are fun and interesting things to do in the winter by driving short distances from Milford besides staying warm and cozy in front of the fireplace enjoying family togetherness.

My family and I stayed at Hillside in July and it was by far the Best vacation home we ever stayed in, the house was supper clean and the view from the big window was awesome. I was eight of us and we had plenty of room and the kitchen was well stocked. The deck was nice to enjoy and the fireplace was nice touch at night time, the beds was also nice and soft just like the one from home. The playground for the kids was just a cross the street and the beach is only a block away, we met some great neighbors there and had them over for dinner a couple of nights so that was great also, John the care taker was great and was very helpful with our needs. We can't wait to come back again next year and Avis is the BEST to deal with and very understanding, better hurry and set your date cause it will be one of the best place you will ever stay at. Thanks again AVis!!!!!!

perfect location for our family to stay. our daughters wedding was 25 minutes in weston,She was a beautifull Bride. the view of the sound and the glorious sun rise are well worth it manager john great guy to talk to gives you a little history all around great time. will stay here again on future trips will be back , hopefully grand kids in the end of 2012 haha.

We loved staying at Hillside Ave. It was so peaceful to see Long Island Sound from the windows all across the front and from the deck. The house has an open concept, comfortable furniture, well-stocked kitchen, quiet neighborhood and is clean. The deck has outside seating and a gas grill. The beds are comfortable (my husband slept better than he does as home) and three bathrooms. There's public beach access if you walk down the hill and enter next to the American Legion. The location is great. Our son graduated from Yale law school and it was convenient to drive to New Haven. We would highly recommend this property.

Im a PA student from TN and was looking for a place to rent during a rotation at a hospital in Derby. I called many places and came across the hillside beach rental. I figured that I would be turned down like I had been with other renters due to my short term situation but instead had a wonderful conversation with Mrs. Pohl. She took the time to understand my need for housing and accomadated me beyond my expectations. The house was a perfect getaway from hospital work and provided me with everything I needed. The house is in a wonderful location for shopping, jogging, and watching the sun rise every morning over the beautiful Long Island Sound. I would absolutely recommend the hillside beach rental to any students needing temporary housing or families seeking a fantastic vacation home.

It is a pleasure to write a review of Hillside Beach. We found this to be a very comfortable, spacious and pleasant home. Once you walk up a short flight of stairs all of the living is on one level so it's easy to be in the living room seating area and be part of the whole family whether they are at the dining table, snacking in the kitchen or sitting on the deck. With this location rising above the other houses in the area one can relax and have a terrific view of the water. All of the decorating is very new and tastefully done. It was a nice location to be in a residential setting but shopping, restaurants and the beach are very close.

We will be back. Hillside Beach was well organized for our family vacation. It was beautifully decorated inside and our. I loved the cathedral living room windows, I could look out and see the ocean. It was so relaxing. My husband loved the quietness of the master bed room and our children loved the ocean, or just playing in the back yard lessening to the ocean. Next time, Joe and I will come alone. We want to enjoy each other and all the other beautiful things that were so relaxing about this home and its location. We will be bring our bikes. It will be so fun to ride on the beach when tide is out.

We are a family from Germany with 2 children (6, 11 years old) and stayed at Hillside Beach in August 2011 for 2 weeks. The house was just great. You see the pictures in the Internet - it was even better in real. Enough space for our family, a beautiful sea view from the living room and the deck. Everything is new, the kitchen invites for cooking, the beds were very good (we slept very well), the air condition is working well in all rooms, we felt as we were at home. The owner was very friendly and helpful, so were the neighbours. Connecticut is a kind of "hidden secret". We did not know how beautiful this country is. Coming from Germany, we first visited New York City for 4 days, staying in a hotel in Brooklyn and afterwards we were driving up to Milford with a rental car. Hillside Beach is a good location to relax, it`s very quiet there, shops are in near driving distance. Take a walk on the coast, go swimming in the sea - we can recommend Silver Sand Beach in Milford. We started several one day trips to places not more than 60-80 miles away from Milford. We can recommend to visit the Aquarium in Mystic, discover the campus of Yale university in New Haven, make a picknick in the park of Kent Water falls, visit the Mark Twain house in Hartford, go shopping in the outlet stores nearby. All in all it was one of our best vacations ever. We arrived as guests and left as friends - and we will come back for sure.
