This property can be combined with vrbo # 284230, if you are traveling with a large group, or 2 families. That would create a duplex apartment with 3-4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, plus terrace.
This is the top floor of a 23 foot wide brownstone townhouse, in the most desirable location on the Upper West Side. 3 flights up, no elevator, this apartment is for someone who really wants to live like a New Yorker, and doesn't mind the steps. The walk is worth it! Bright and private, with large rooms filled with beautiful detail, and tastefully furnished in eclectic Manhattan taste. The townhouse is owner-occupied, although you probably won't see or hear us. However, we want to share this truly special property with guests that appreciate its uniqueness, and take care of it like their own home.
1300 square foot, floor-thru (full floor). Lots of light. Faces north and south. Large living room (22 X 20) furnished with Italian leather sofas, Murano Italian lamps, and antiques. Charming old-fashioned tub with new plumbing, large bright kitchen with skylight. Original artwork.
Live in the middle of everything! Restaurants, shopping, movies, concerts, museums, antique shops (thrift shops!), Sunday morning flea market and farmer's market. Enjoy being steps away from Central Park and the Museum of Natural History, across the street from the M79 crosstown bus to the East Side, a short walk to Lincoln Center, and around the corner from everybody's favorite brunch spots: Sarabeth's, Nice/Matin, Fred's, Good Enough to Eat, and, of course, Zabar's and Zabar's Cafe. One block to the subway.
There is absolutely no smoking permitted anywhere on the property. No pets allowed.
THIS PROPERTY AND VRBO# 284230 CAN BE RENTED TOGETHER TO CREATE A 3 BEDROOM, 2 BATH DUPLEX WITH TERRACE. PLEASE EMAIL ABOUT THIS OPTION.

My husband and I have raised our 3 teenage children in this wonderful brownstone townhouse on the Upper West Side. There is no better family location in NYC. Our extra-wide townhouse was built in 1892 as a single family home for a prosperous doctor. It has been lovingly restored with all of its original detail, and exquisite carved landmark facade. We stayed here for a week in September, a family of four with two children aged 10 and 8. We were pleasantly surprised at the amount of space. There was a lovely large living/dining space and both bedrooms were a good size. The kitchen was a galley kitchen, but it had everything we needed for cooking pasta meals. The building was a classic NY brownstone and we were on the top floor so lots of stairs, which didn't bother us, but don't stay here if you don't like stairs! The apartment is a block away from the Museum of Natural History and Central Park, and has several supermarkets within easy walking distance, as you would expect in NY. There are two subway lines close by so it is pretty easy to get around. The owners had a great list of recommended restaurants, but our kids aren't very adventurous eaters, so we stuck with Shake Shack, a burger place just around the corner.

Four members of my family (including 2 teenagers - one of whom was studying for exams) stayed at this very clean apartment for 3 weeks in April. The apartment was spacious with a large living/dining room and a very big bedroom (with 2 single beds) - separated by the walk through galley kitchen - which worked out perfectly for our student who could close the door and block out noise from the living room. The kitchen was good with a large fridge, microwave and full stove. A few more pots and a sharp knife would've been useful but we managed in any case. The washer /dryer very useful; the bathroom was serviceable with adequate storage (hot water takes a while to come through but is worth the wait) and there were lots of clean white fluffy towels. The other 'main' bedroom is small, but perfectly adequate, with bedside tables and a closet. The larger bedroom has two windows which look out onto back yards and other buildings and provides good light. All beds were very comfortable. The owner was helpful and responsive and provided a good list of information about the local area. There was wi-fi which worked most of the time. There are 2 main subway routes close by and buses crosstown and downtown. Being near Central Park was fabulous and there are many great bars, restaurants and shops around. Good supermarkets like Fairway and Zabars within walking distance. We didn't mind the steps (my daughter counted 58 inside the building plus there are probably another 10 on the stoop) as it kept us fit, but this could be difficult for some people. The apartment has good light throughout although the window panes, as you can see in the photos, are leadlight with opaque panes so you cannot view outside without opening the windows, and this was slightly disconcerting when it was cold. However not enough to stop me from staying there again! I have no hesitation in recommending this apartment.
Recommended for:Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.
