Everything that was listed and more

The end of the earth and the beginning of Paradise. We spent a week in this wonderful location, driving from Ontario for the chance to see Cape Breton and Nova Scotia Everything was as listed in the information but what we did not expect was the total sense of well being and relaxation as well as the fantastic feeling of being welcomed home. We were meet by the owner on the evening of our arrival, given a tour of the facilities and our vacation was on it's way. Only an hour after Darrell left, we could hear the sounds of a humpback whale in the bay below the house. Drive down the road towards Meat Cove about 1/2 a kilometer and you have a great open space to catch site of the whales Day 1 was all about relaxing on the deck with coffee and Bailey's. Day 2 Darrell came by to see if all was well and introduced us to his dad. Not only did we get some history of the area Sunny also clued us in on who provided whale watching tours, leading us to Oshans Whale tours. As promised, we saw whales, eagles and fresh caught lobster in his traps. Grab a quick bite at the local stand just down the road and remember to ask about the famous local hockey player! Sunny also gaves us some great history on Neil's Harbour (were he onced lived) and off we went again. Remember to stop by the Chowderhut at the lighthouse for a great meal. Take a few extra minutes and stop at Black Cove to watch the waves crash in. Sunrises over the mountain side and star gazing at night make sleeping with the curtains open a delight and if you listen you may hear the whales. A well stocked library in the master bedroom provides entertainment for all, be sure to locate the book about Neil's Harbour by Edna Staebler for a great account of the area. Just 8 kilometers up the road is Meat Cove were we meet some campers at the local lobster hut on the top of the hill, enjoyed a fine meal and a beer as well as some great scenery. Thank you Darrell, Sunny and Dale for making this a truly remarkable vacation and sharing with us a little piece of heaven on earth.

The house was better than we imagined and the location is very beautiful. We were looking for a relaxing getaway and found it. Being near Cape Breton Highlands NP was a big plus, especially if you enjoy hiking or sightseeing. Having Darrel's family nearby also made us feel welcome.

A million dollar view all to ourselves. The view from the deck is breath-taking. We saw whales off the deck and from the kitchen window. My husband and I have never had a better vacation. The house is warm and has everything we needed. The family was very helpful and inviting. There is so much to see and do within the area. Perfect for anyone who needs to get away. Thanks Darrell for sharing your paradise with us. We will be back next year!
