Our family cottage is a single level ranch style layout with (4) bedrooms (three with queen beds and the forth has two twins, a double and a bunk bed; this "bunk room" is great for kids). Four couches offer extra sleeping space in the living room and porch if needed. Two full baths (both with showers). The large living room has a cathedral ceiling and knotty pine walls, very popular and still plentiful in northern Michigan. A large stone fireplace (gas) with a remote control. A 42” plasma TV with cable is in the living room, and each bedroom has a smaller TV. Wireless high speed internet service is furnished. The dining room table seats eight easily with extra tables in the living room and the glassed-in porch. A modern well equipped kitchen (spices included) helps make meals and entertaining a breeze. Laundry room offers a washer and dryer on site. Outside towards the lake you will find a relaxing 3 person swing, a 25' x 25' brick paved patio area, two BBQ grills, picnic table, portable fire pit and comfortable wrought-iron patio furniture, including 10 chairs and two additional round tables. An American flag flying high overlooks an awesome beach and swimming area. The beach is furnished with additional chairs for sunning. The sandy, rock-free swim area tapers gently from shore to the deeper water. Our private dock runs full length from the patio, across the sand, to the lake, with 80' extending out on the water. Room for docking a boat (up to ~24') or other water toys. This side of the lake usually receives a breeze, so few bugs are ever present. The wind coming through the trees can truly be glorious, and the sunsets are often breathtaking, just like in the movies!

Year Purchased: 1980
Our grandparents built the original cottage on Otsego Lake in 1940. They enjoyed hunting, fishing, swimming and picking blueberries, and introduced vacation lakefront living to our parents and our family as the generations passed. The cottage expanded, adding beds and creature comforts. We retained the great old stone fireplace (now gas) and knotty pine beams throughout the main living areas. My family now enjoys terrific boating, excellent snowmobiling, great golf and awesome skiing whenever we visit. Gaylord grew up too, and now offers all types of restaurants, shopping, kid’s attractions and a new movie theater, all five miles away or less. Our cottage is in the middle of Gaylord's "Golf Mecca" for summmer fans of the game, and for the winter enthusiasts, we typically receive over 180 inches of snow annually due to our location in the Gaylord "Snow Belt".
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
We consider Otsego Lake as a very friendly FAMILY oriented lake. It’s nearly six miles long with great fishing, sailing, swimming, skiing, boating and relaxing. It has a nearby state park and boat launch, and a marina for boat gas and repairs. Live bait is available nearby. A terrific sandy beach and dock are at your disposal. The swimming area is rock-free, and tapers gradually from shallow to deep for kids and grownups alike. We have an outdoor swing, plenty of patio furniture, a large charcoal BBQ (and also a new gas grill) to make the lakefront vista even more enjoyable. Our vacation cottage is within a block of a little convenience store (Al's Market) and our family would often take a walk for candy or ice cream (adult beverages and pizza also available). Snowmobile rentals and dealerships with all four major brands are close by. The groomed state snowmobile trail system runs right along the east side of the lake, connecting you to statewide system, just 60 seconds from our cottage. Trips to Grayling, Lewiston, Indian River, East Jordan and beyond are common from our cottage, with gas stations only a few minutes away. Winter draws many onto Otsego Lake itself for ice fishing, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. There is even a serious snow sledding hill a few miles away used by kids and adult thrill-seekers! The Gaylord area is known as the "Golf Mecca". Nearly 30 golf courses, some with legendary architects, are within 5 to 30 minutes of our cottage. Only five minutes to Marsh Ridge, The Loon, Michaywe for golf, and within ten minutes to Treetops and Otsego Club resorts, for both golf and skiing. And as little as 30 minutes to Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands, Nubs Nob and many other resorts. Less than an hour to Petosky, Harbor Springs and Mackinaw Island ferry. Other terrific lakes, including Charlevoix, Burt, Mullet, Torch and Walloon are within an hour drive for a day trip. All without the constraints of a motel, and with all the comforts of home!

My wife & I and 3 other adult couples occupied this cabin for a weekend of snowmobiling. Absolutely no disappointments! All the amenities coupled with the rustic charm of this house made for a very comfortable stay - far outweighing hotel rooms. There is more than enough room for the 8 of us to put our things (lots of gear included) & enjoy a relaxing weekend with each other. Right on the lake & just off a groomed snowmobile trail made it an ideal location. Dealing with the owners was very easy and they were most accomodating. Before we left our wives were looking to book a summer weekend here. To our dismay, they found it was already reserved for nearly the entire season. Easy for us to see why and we all agreed this is where we'll stay next year - can't wait! Thank You Richard, your family has quite a gem and we are very happy to have found you! See ya next winter.

Really enjoyed the cabin. Beautiful time of year w/wonderful areas to tour. Very close to Charlevoix, Boyne City, Petoskey & Harbor Springs. Plenty of sleeping for large families. Cabin is on a beautiful lake w/crystal clear water. Owners very helpful with any problems you may have. I think it is a wonderful cabin for kids to enjoy the beach and kids bunk room with lots of videos and tv's to watch. Having the internet is a great asset. As you know, Gaylord is the golf mecca with golf courses just down the road. Nice little restaurant in Gaylord for a quick sandwich/coffee is going E on Main called the BEAR ?? Spuds warehouse was nice store to explore. Enjoyed the live Elk by Elks Lodge. Thanks for the use of your home.

We had an excellent time on Otsego Lake. The water and beach was perfect for the small children! We rented a pontoon for a day and tested out the fishing. The kids loved our trips into Gaylord where they fed the elk! Plenty of sleeping room. Hoping to return next summer!

We had a wonderful time in Gaylord this past week, staying at this Otsego Lake rental with my parents and siblings. The house had lots of room for each of us to have individual space, as well as a nice family room and dining room to spend time together. The Peter's family was very accommodating in leaving the dock in past Labor Day in case we wanted to boat on the lake. The grill worked great, and when we didn't want to cook we had excellent pizza from Al's Market, which is just a moment away. The Peters were very easy to work with and answered all our questions about the house and the activities available in the area.

My family and our friends family stayed here for our summer vacation. We had a great time, the house was perfect for the size 10 group that we had.
