My sisters and I get away for a week each year to spend some quality time and see some areas of America we haven't been to. Pauline's "Lakeview Hideaway" provided us with just the opportunity to do so in Nova Scotia. The apartment was pretty, nicely appointed and very clean. Having a kitchen and dining area to sit and have breakfast or tea was a plus (it was even stocked with a variety of teas for our use). The laundry room was very helpful in this day of carry-on bags and limited clothes. We were able to see much of Nova Scotia in a very short time since we were so close to all the sights. We also enjoyed the beautiful natural landscaping surrounding the property. We were greeted and treated warmly, however were also given our privacy as needed. Our only disappointment was that we couldn't stay longer!

We recently stayed and Pauline and Gary's beautiful home and were not disappointed at all. I traveled from Ontario with my mom and two sons ,ages 14 and 5, and we all felt as if we were part of the family. The accommodations were exactly as pictured, immaculate, welcoming and homey with everything we needed to be comfortable. It was a 15 minute drive into the heart of Halifax and close to all major shopping. I love to BBQ, and we were welcomed to use the backyard BBQ and patio as if it were our own. You could not get the comfort and relaxation that we had at Pauline and Gary's home if you stay in a hotel or another impersonal accommodation. And my kids loved "Hamlet". My wife and I stayed at Pauline and Gary's property in April 2011 for a month. I have to say that before we rented the property we had reviewed the comments of other renters and one comment of Elderwrench was kind of disturbing, but after we have looked at the other comments, we have decided to rent the place. When we arrived, Pauline welcomed us with a huge smile and a hug and made us feel very comfortable. When ever we were on vacation in the past, we would miss our home but this time it was different because Pauline and Gary made us feel like we were at home. They thought of every little detail to make us comfortable and they paid attention to every need we had FYI, the toilet is brand new, the place is near 2 lakes, rooms are very bright and spacious. All we want to say to Pauline and Gary, thanks again for the pleasant time and for the great vacation. We can say confidently that after spending the time at Pauline and Gary's "Lakeview Hideaway" for a month, we think that Elderwrench gave the wrong impression about the warm and great place for a vacation. Owner response:We have really enjoyed having Igor and Anna stay with us.The moment they arrived, it was like as if our own kids came home.Our children are all grown and have moved away so it was nice having this young couple at our place.They came from another country and did not know anybody when they first arrived. We tried to make them as comfortable as possible. They told us that we made them feel as if they were at home and called us their Canadian mom and dad.

We had the pleasure of stopping in this lovely property with our 2 teenage boys FROM 15/10/2010 >5/11/2010, hosted by Pauline and Gerry 2 of the most helpful and kindest of people (apologies to Gerry for borrowing his newspaper) , the property is furnished in good quality furniture with decoration to match.All electrical items are full size and of modern design and is more than enough to cook a full size mealfor a family of 4 plus guests Situated in a central location for visits to all areas of NS whether by bus into Halifax or further afield by car. I personally have no problems in reccomending the apartment and the hosts to my friends and family when coming to visit us when we move to NS as permanent residents next year. The first thing I want to say is that this is a basement. The ceilings are scarcely 7 ft and the windows small. It's dark in there. Where it says view/location, well, the location is called lakeview but the lake is blocks away. There were cracking peeling tiles on the kitchen floor. The bathroom is accessible only through the owner's laundry room and the base of the commode was cracked. We travel a lot, including 4 other stops on this trip, and this one did not meet our expectations based on the description.

Owner response:We were very surprised to see a review like this. Our guests, who wrote this review were very nice. They seemed to be pleased with everything. They were a mature couple and very pleasant. We gave them a complimentary bottle of wine and allowed them to stay an extra day free so they wouldn't have to wait in the airport for half a day .I also discovered some items left behind after they left and when I contact them, they did not mention anything negative. They were just grateful. To respond to this review, I have to clarify a few issues. First of all, we never intended to mislead anybody. Anybody can see from the picture that the unit is on the lower level of our house.but you can see we have a very high raised bungalow. So the lower level is on the first floor. What can be seen from the first picture, is the entry to the apartment. A true basement is usually below the ground level. Also from the pictures can be seen that rooms are very bright and specious. The whole house is surrounded with mature tees. That gives the house natural air conditioning. We are located on Lakeview avenue and overlooking the lake. We have a beautiful panoramic view of the lake.We are only 100 meters from the lake shore. We also have public access to the beach which is supervised by a lifeguard and the beach is located 3 minutes by car or 10 minutes walk. Our apartment is very new. Last year it was first season that it was offered for rent. So it was completely renovated for this purpose.During the renovation one tile in the kitchen floor got cracked and it has been repaired. It is a very expensive flooring and there is definitely no peeling or cracking. It is true the toilet had a small superficial crack on the bottom but it was examined by a plumber and it did not presented any problems with leaking. We have since replaced it with the brand new one.The big advantage of our apartment is that we do provide the access to the laundry room and all the laundry supplies on the condition that we share the laundry room. We do not use the laundry room while our guests are at home. Yes our guests must pass through the laundry room to access the bathroom however the convenience of laundry access pleased our guests and has never been a problem. We hope before you make any decision that you will give us serious consideration and contact us with any questions. Last year we were booked from April till December and this was our only negative comment. Thank you, Pauline and Gar

Hi, everyone! We have arrived to Halifax from Israel and stayed at Pauline's apartment. It was very lovely, warm and beautiful place. All elements of apartment, even small details, like dolls and decorative plates, were done with love and you can really fill like "at home". It has really good size living room, where you can rest very comfortably. Also, there is one bedroom with big closet and large dresser with mirror.There is enough room to unpack for a big family.We really enjoyed comfortable bad and very quiet sleep. Moreover, the cozy kitchen was well equipped with plates, glasses, cooking utensills and other helpful things like a popcorn maker and popcorn as well as all the spices for a gourmet cook. Even the laundry room was included in the price. We were very impressed with all the environmentally friendly cleaning products and, of course, a lovely bathroom with plenty of hot water. The view outside was breathtaking. We spent at Pauline's apartment 2 weeks and enjoyed every minute!!!!!:) One more think we want to mention that the hosts were just superb.We felt as if we were visiting friends. All the best, M&M
