If you enjoy the thought of being surrounded by . . .
- the banks of pristine 6500 acre Lake James with 150 miles of shoreline
- a lush green forest
- the base of towering mountains
- views at the end of meandering paths through the woods that reveal the sunrise, the sunset, and the water below
. . . then our timberframe Cabin Camp Lake James is the perfect retreat for you.
NOTE: This is Lake James, not to be confused with much smaller Hidden Lake.
Our cabin is nestled in the middle of 9 private acres; has a 400 yd trail down to a quiet Lake James cove; is less than 2 miles to a public Lake James boat launch; and is surrounded by dozens of secluded forest acres of community walking trails. Kayak and canoe provided. Marina for boat and slip rental nearby.
The mountain cabin rental will make you feel as though you have stepped back in time to an age when the fishing pole, sleds, and hiking boots were always ready and waiting by the door. When afternoons were spent climbing trees, discovering a new mountain trail, or just reading a good book in the shade. When roaring fireplaces warmed your heart and handcrafted quilts warmed your toes.
The cabin offers our guests the rare opportunity to make yourselves at home on one of the cleanest mountain lakes in the southeast United States. Meander up the back path to a view of the mountains, water, sunset, and sunrise from the adjacent lot. Walk down a path through the forest to the other edge of the property and step into a quiet cove. Adjacent to the property, you will find acres and acres of hiking trails that meander through the forest and by the lake's edge.
Inside the cabin, there are 3 bedrooms (2 queen, 1 double) and 2 baths. Additionally, you will find a sleeper sofa, a daybed, and a very large window seat with a very thick cushion. The cabin is very handicap friendly ranch plan with a very gently sloping sidewalk around to the back door (on the same level as house); a wide hallway; wide doorways; hardwood floors throughout (with the exception of a washable river rock floor in one bath); and a wheelchair friendly master bathroom with open rimless (European style) shower, handicap grab bars, wall mounted sinks, lever faucet handles, and elevated toilet in master bath.
Our cabin at Lake James offers a rustic, yet luxurious, mountain getaway. Calm lake waters, scenic walking trails, and winding mountain roads. Explore. Hike. Swim. Fish. Read. Rest. Canoe. Camp. Decompress. Connect. Regroup. Gather with family and friends. Tell a story by the camp fire. Create cherished memories. Build lasting relationships. Get away from it all. Capture the feeling of summer camp . . . Lake James . . Welcome to Cabin Camp Lake James.

Needed to take a last minute 3 day getaway and found this home available. It was only about 45 minutes away from our home (foothills), but when arriving, I felt I was catapulted thousands of miles away back to the Rockies where I came from 15 years ago; and the peacefulness and privacy of this home and immense amount of detail given to it made it probably the "best overall value" of any home I ever rented through HomeAway hands down. I have rented homes on the beach, homes in the mountains, but this home, didn't break the bank for me and gave my family more than we ever anticipated coming upon it last minute as we did... Quality through & through! I cannot say enough "good" about this home, and there is not one thing I can say bad at all.Owner response: Thanks a million for choosing us and for your thoughtful review. I am always thrilled to find a little something extra to put in the cabin to make our guests' stays extra special. I am even happier when our guests notice! Please come again!

Awesome stay and exactly as described. Fire pit outside, lit hot tub, outdoor surround sound, furnished kitchen with all the condiments in the world-it was great. Lake James Realty was wonderful, and even had wood delivered when we ran out. The sauna maintenance person came to take chemical samples and even he was very personable and helpful. We were only missing a pizza cutter, can opener, and cookie sheets and got those items after a quick trip to town. We will definitely be back next year! The only thing we would suggest is updating the electronics-took 3 remotes to turn on one tv. Other than that it was perfect! Anything we may have forgotten was here, and it was a true "home away from home."Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

About the owner: We have traveled extensively around the world. There is nothing like Lake James! My family and I spend quite a bit of time on the water (boating, tubing, skiing swimming), and we love the mountains and views of western North Carolina. The sunsets, sunrises and mountain and water views are glorious.
Why the Owner Chose Morganton:
The pristine lake water of Lake James. At headwaters of two major rivers. Size of lake and activities in the area. Mountain, sunset, and sunrise views. Close proximity to major cities (Charlotte, Winston-Salem/Greensboro/High Point, and Raleigh/Durham/Chapel/Hill). Morganton is an historic and quaint town that takes you back in time. At the same time, it has everything conveniently located that you could possibly need. Shopping, movies, restaurants, golf, and a town square perfect for small festivals every season of the year!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Very Private. Very quiet . . . except for the church bells ringing softly in the distance on occasion. :-) Lake and water sports, hiking, rock waterfall, private hot tub/spa (for use by tenant only), stacked stone wood burning fireplace and fire pit, QUIET TIME, fishing, returning to simpler days. Rustic. Timberframe. Nostalgic touches in the interior design. Wonderful library of books.
