Nolay apartment description

"La Maison de Susan" - This tastefully decorated manor from the 1600's was restored in 2008 to include all modern day conveniences while still maintaining the beautiful period details. Though private, the location offers the benefits of a bakery, butcher, market, florist, pharmaceutics, restaurants and bars within one block. The gite (apartment) overlooks a courtyard behind a beautiful iron gate and provides lots of sunlight. It is situated within rural French countryside surroundings, in the small, picturesque village of Nolay (2000 persons).

The countryside near Nolay offers the spectacular cliffs of Le Boute du Monde (World's End), Nolay is a small medieval town nestled in a valley where the granite outcroppings give way to limestone hillsides.... a transition from farming to woods to the ever present vineyards that Burgundy is known for. The central plaza, or heart of the village includes a XIV century market hall and beautiful church from the 15th century which has figures which strike the bell tower every hour.

The perfect retreat for lovers of superb French wine and cuisine...Imagine savoring the flavors or Burgundy. If you are looking for a more unusual holiday, then this is the choice for you. Burgundy is an area rich in history, outstanding beauty, fabulous cuisine and boasts the best wines to be found in France.

A Welcome pack will be awaiting all visitors and includes condiments, tea, coffee, fresh bread, milk and juice.

What can we add to our review that hasn't been said. Susan is the perfect host and her apartment is magic. We truly felt that we belonged in Nolay and Susan did all she could to make us welcome. Our only regret is our stay was too short. We will return! Mike and Karen, Surrey, Canada.

Although we did not meet Susan until the last night in Nolay, our stay in her apts was delightful. As others have stated, these are high ceiling, beautifully appointed and spotless apts. The antiques that welcome you in the entry way follow throughout the apts and the shoppe downstairs. A washer and dryer is located at the back of the antique shoppe that is accessible to guests. The TV with many American shows and English news is welcome as a respite from trying to communicate in a language, French, that we did not have. We loved being in Wine Country, especially during the harvest. We saw workers in the fields, talked with the locals..usually with hand language and had a wonderful time driving thru the scenic countryside. We loved coming home to our own apt and having a bottle of wine that we had just purchased with the meats, cheeses, fruits from the local outdoor market on the town square. Autun and Beune are easy to visit as are chateaus. The village of Mersault was great for a lunch stop and DON'T miss La BURGUNDE, a restaurant in Nolay. We walked there for dinner and were treated with warmth and delight. THE FOOD was BEYOND wonderful as was the presentation. Make sure you say Bon jour to the chef and remind him that we were the Americans who gave the toast in his restaurant...VIVA LA FRANCE!

My husband and I stayed here for three wonderful days, and wish we had planned for a longer visit. We enjoyed spending time in Nolay (pay attention to all the reviews recommending you reserve a table for dinner at Midupi just a few steps from this apartment) and in the lovely villages and towns nearby. Susan is just terrific. We cannot say enough about her genuine warmth and hospitality. It was an absolute delight to meet her and to make Nolay our base as we toured Burgandy. FANTASTIC!

"Are you kidding me?!" These were my words when first opening the door to this apartment. I felt like I had died and gone back to the 16th century, only with plumbing and electricity. The place is as cozy and beautiful as Susan describes it to be. What really breathes life into the apartment, though, is Susan's warm hospitality and generous spirit, which were so present, even though we never even met her. She went to great lengths to make it a comfortable stay for us including providing us with breakfast items. This was most welcome as we arrived in the evening and had nothing to eat in the morning. She even set up a Christmas tree for us! Nolay is quaint, conveniently located and had everything we needed. A long walk on the bike path is not to be missed. The town and this apartment was the perfect ending for our three week adventure around France. We are most grateful to Susan for helping us have the best vacation ever.

We stayed three nights in this beautiful unit filled with outstanding antiques. Susan the owner was out of the country yet her employees made us feel very welcome. We were treated on our arrival with a basket of goodies including a baguette, jam, coffee, milk, cereal, etc. This picturesque town is handy to wine routes and Dijon. We would definitely stay here again.

My friend and I stayed at Susan's wonderful Nolay apartment for a week in October. Susan is a warm and gracious hostess; she could not have been more accommodating. While we were there, I had some issues with my computer and Susan generously offered the use of hers. The furnishings in the apartment are mostly antiques and are lovely. The bed is very comfortable as is the sofa bed. Everything was spotless and well-maintained. The apartment is very spacious and has everything you need to make for an enjoyable stay. Although the weather was cool, my friend and I spent time in the courtyard which still had lots of flowers and was a serene setting for an aperitif. The town of Nolay is charming and everyone was very helpful when we tried to use our limited French. We went wine tasting, visited the Abbaye Fontenay and the La Rochepot Chateau (our favorite site), and drove to Beaune and Autun. Nolay is well situated to be a base for travels during your visit to Burgundy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Susan's Nolay apartment and would highly recommend it to all who plan to visit this region. As for food, be sure to go to the Restaurant Midupi which has great food at reasonable prices. It's a very small restaurant so a reservation is a must. All in all a spectacular week. Thank you, Susan, for helping make our visit to Burgundy a memorable one.

We stayed at Susan's places for a total of 19 days. We were sorry to have to leave. The first week in the advertised 'back' apartment and the rest of the time in the front apartment. Both are wonderful, each with their own charm. The 'front' apartment has a shower, plus a bathtub you can almost swim in. Susan selected this as her home, but now lives off the property. The courtyard is stunning, with lovely flowers. One visitor to the shop exclaimed, as she stepped into the courtyard, just how lovely it is. We spent lots of evening hours just hanging around before stepping around the corner to the exquisite 14th covered market. It's an amazing place. Don't miss it!

Susan is a star! It's not only about where you stay, but who you have contact with. Susan and her lovely apartment are 5+ stars all around. What a delightful atmosphere! And to meet up with Susan each day for a chat made it even better. Beautiful things all around you and this magnificent small town with everything you need just a short stroll away. Paths to wander on, biking trails, so much to see and do nearby. We have driven through Nolay many, many times over the years we have traveled in France without every discovering what a wonderful place this is. Don't miss Le The dans la Vigne, just around the corner. By the way, this apartment is more lovely than the photos.

My husband and I spent 5 wonderful weeks at this apartment. Nolay is a charming medieval village perfectly situated for seeing all the sights in Burgundy including the wineries, the surrounding beautiful little villages, and is a 15 drive to Beaune. Parking in the village is very convenient to the apartment. The apartment overlooks a beautiful courtyard and is furnished with antiques, provided by Susan's lovely antique store located below the apartment. The kitchen is well-equipped making it very easy to prepare meals, and both the kitchen and bathroom have modern fixtures. The bed linens are lovely, the bath towels are plush. The TV has many English speaking channels plus there is a DVD player and some DVDs available. Though Nolay is a small village it has several bakeries, a butcher shop, grocery store, pharmacy, church and cafes and restaurants. There is also a picturesque 14th century market hall. Susan is a fantastic hostess and is absolutely the best owner/hostess we have ever come across in all of our travels. She goes well above and beyond to make your stay pleasant, comfortable and memorable. She is energetic, warm, humorous and kind. We highly recommend her apartment and definitely look forward to a return visit someday.

This apartment is in the heart of a lovely village in Burgundy. All of the major sites are easily accessible by car. There are several good places to eat in town, from a kebab take-out to fine dining. The boulangerie across the street is very good and convenient. The kitchen is large by European standards and very well equipped. The shower has a good supply of hot water and the towels are soft and plush. The sitting room/dining area and the bedroom are large and beautifully appointed. The king size bed with wonderful linens is an unexpected treat. However, the best feature of this apartment is the owner, Susan. She is thoughtful, funny, and full of energy. From the "welcome basket" of food to answering questions, giving recommendations, and fixing the t.v. immediately when it went out, she could not have been more helpful and considerate. I would definitely stay here again and hope to do so in the future. I have already recommended it to a friend!

              Why the Owner Chose Nolay:
This location seemed like the perfect blend for me, and perspective guests, to enjoy the tranquility of the countryside while still having the amenities of modern day life and the quintessential small specialty shops that France is often known for (bakeries, butchers, flower shops, etc). Here you can get away from the hustle and bustle while still being close to all the amenities of larger cities.
