Becky, Amy and Megan originally from Arlington VA

Date of Stay: 04/11/12 Review Submitted: 04/27/12

We three girls were there for Amy's 50th. The three of us have never been on vacation together yet we grew up in the same neighborhood and have been friends since we were three. Amy chose this charming "unit," I don't know what else to call it-- it is wonderfully unusual. The abode sits on a dock in the middle of the Safe Harbor Marina and is adjacent to and connected to the original Hogfish restaurant-- a lovely, casual restaurant and bar that has been around forever. The experience staying there is so much more enticing to me than staying in a hotel near Duval. A scooter got us everywhere we needed to go and the unit provided us a slip out the front door for our boat. Out the back door was more dock. In my regard one couldn't ask for more. However, if you want white carpet and an elevator to your room you will be out of luck with this rental!!! We enjoyed this place so much that my husband and I came back the next month. Becky

Nice Condo, Eclectic Area

Guest: Amy G. (Covington, Georgia)
Date of Stay: 03/31/12 Review Submitted: 04/09/12

Overall the condo fit our needs perfectly. THE BAD: The mattresses were poor and the bedding could have used some updating, but overall the place was to our liking. There isn't much storage space for clothing. There wasn't any storage space in the room with the bunk beds, and a very small amount of drawer space in the 2nd bedroom. The master bedroom had a small wardrobe storage area that could hold a small amount of hanging clothes and there was open shelving on either side of the murphy bed. The a/c leaked in the master bedroom when we had it as low as it could go. When we raised the temperature a bit, it was fine. It took awhile for the condo to cool down after we first got there and the main room would get a little too warm during the day, but overall was fine. The fridge took a while to cool down when we first got there too. THE GOOD: There was plenty of room for our group to spread out and relax in the condo while we were there (4 adults and 2 kids(14 & 9)). The kitchen is small, but well stocked with utensils, dishes, etc. There is an outside sitting area and a grill. We loved being right next door to Hogfish and across the marina from Fishbusterz. We were able to pick up fresh caught fish from Fishbusterz and grill out at the condo. We also had a couple of meals at Hogfish, which were really good. The area seems a little sketchy, but it was absolutely fine. Everyone we came across was very friendly. We had our jetski trailer parked outside for the entire week and no one bothered it at all. We had our jetski docked right outside our door, which was awesome. We rented a boat for a day while we were there and had it delivered right to our door, again, awesome. Everyone we met or talked to said that the area the condo is in, is what Key West used to be like. We liked not being in the middle of the craziness that is downtown Key West, but could easily get down there in 5 - 10 minutes. We really enjoyed our time here. I spent several hours sitting on the dock watching the marine life and saw an assortment of tarpon, baracuda, shark, a spotted eagle ray and I even saw a manatee! The manatee swam right under our dock. That was a highlight for me. The pool at the Yacht Club was great too! Both the kids and adults loved it. Overall the place is nice and I would recommend it to anyone, noting that you should be very clear that you are not staying at a resort or a luxury hotel, but an average condo in a very eclectic area.

Owner response:I'm sorry that you found our condo lacking in any respect. We pride ourselves as taking care of any issue that may arise during a stay. Unfortunately, the air conditioning issue was not called to our attention as it would have been immediately fixed. We take all comments to heart and strive to only make it better. Thank you for your stay.

Interesting location minutes away from all the bustle

We were only at this property for a short stay, but really enjoyed the location. It's walkable to a popular local restaurant, but you'll want to have a car. The place was clean, well maintained, and well decorated with a lot of nice touches that captured the feel of the area. It was also unusual to walk out the front door and be surrounded by boats! A unique location for sure...we were very pleased.

Our birthday getaway

Guest: Tiff and Dave (Tampa, Fl)
Date of Stay: 03/13/12 Review Submitted: 04/09/12

A few friends and I stayed in this condo in celebration of our birthdays. We had a wonderful time! We brought our boat and enjoyed the easy access to it as the condo is located right on the marina! We were within a short walking distance to a local bar which was a plus. The locals were very friendly as well. Also, Duval street was just a short safe cab ride away. We had an amazing time and will definitely return!

A slice of Key West without Key West Prices

Guest: Amy (Clearwater)
Date of Stay: 02/24/12 Review Submitted: 03/07/12

We could not have been more pleased with this rental. If you like to truly enjoy the local flavor of Key West without paying the high prices, this is for you. This was a trip for me and my two best childhood friends to celebrate my 50th birthday. I was hoping to find a three-bedroom, but could find nothing as reasonable and perfect as this. It's hard to picture, but think of sitting outside, meeting local folks that live there and having a true Key West experience, without paying the high prices, then this place is for you. The unit was exactly as pictured, very clean, had parking, and it was an easy 10 minute drive to Key West. If you don't want to drive into town, taking a cab was inexpensive and easy. It is ultimate paradise if you have a boat, with the slip right our front! If you more into the pristine condo scene, this isn't for you.

GEM TUCKED AWAY ON STOCK ISLAND ! THE BEST WE COULD HAVE ASKED FOR!

Guest: NY'ers in Paradise (Stillwater NY )
Date of Stay: 01/25/12 Review Submitted: 02/06/12

Tucked away right off the shrimp docks an amazing modern little condo. CLEAN Exactly as described but yet so much more. It was an added extra to be able to walk to the fresh fish market and bring it home and cook in the kitchen, for the at home feeling. Also right behind the best food in town, if you don't feel like cooking.(stumbling distance (lol) The HOG FISH was by far one of the best restaurants (in key west)with the best food. (and we heard its a secret to travelers unless you hear it from the locals) The condo was more than cozy and decorated with style. LOVED IT ...Clean and complete with every thing you need to feel at home, while enjoying key west.. Location was great! We look forward to hopefully staying here again! FORSURE! Thanks again for sharing your place !

By far the best vacation rental we've found!!

Guest: Filomena R.
Date of Stay: 01/06/12 Review Submitted: 02/09/12

Let me start by saying this rates #1 of many vacation rentals around the country we've experienced. Do not let the run down trailers you need to drive by to get there discourage you. The location is perfect, off the main street, but a bike ride away from all the activities Key West has to offer. Mike, the owner, met us there when we arrived & was very helpful. Docks right at your front & back door with your own slip available. This place is literally built right on the dock. Lots of friendly neighbors with their dogs (living on their houseboats) that were more than happy to stop & chat. Hogfish restaurant/bar with amazing food & live entertainment basically next door. We awoke daily to lots of sun and roosters cackling. We didn't have a boat, but took advantage of the fishing night & day a few steps out the door. Our first day we saw a barracuda & tarpon at our dock! This was our first trip to Key West. Our son & daughter in law had planned their intimate wedding there, with only 8 of us attending. There was plenty of room for all 8 of us. The condo was immaculate upon our arrival. The interior is basically brand new & very tastefully done. Granite countertops, tile & lots of natural wood make this place a warm & cozy spot to hang out. Picnic table with gas grill on the patio. Perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee in the sun. The unit has a lock out option, with a kitcheonette & 2nd bath in the second section. Both units have direct access to the patio area. We will definately be staying there again in the future...we are already in the talks of going down this year!!

Perfect Getaway

Guest: keywestbound (Austin, Texas)
Date of Stay: 12/17/11 Review Submitted: 02/05/12

This was my first time renting off of VRBO. My wife and I decided to take a chance and see about taking a vacation trip to Key West. At first I was slightly nervous driving to the rental property as it was an industrial/fishing part of town. Once we got to the property though everything had changed. The apartment looked as good as the pictures and then some. The surrounding area was also just what we where looking for. It was an eclectic mix of Key West castaways and fisherman. I loved walking about the marina property and looking at all of the wood-workers and art that is scattered about the property. We towed down our 26ft worldcat and had plenty of room at the provided slip (just remember to bring a trailer lock). The amenities and service turned out to be better than I could have ever imagined. The owners where attentive, and quick to offer advice on where to visit while on vacation. We will definitely be back!!

A home in Key West

Guest: Claude (Geneva, SWitzerland)
Date of Stay: 04/21/11 Review Submitted: 05/02/11

We had a very nice stay in Key West. It was nice to feel at home and to be able to welcome our cousins for dinner. The information on the website proved entirely accurate. The place was clean and well maintained. The owner was very helpful and provided us with extra help and services we had not anticipated: free access to swimming pool and beach. Having a fish market at your door is certainly a real plus which should be better advertised.

We were delighted with the location of this property and were happy that although our main attraction was Key West itself that we had decided to stay on Stock Island. Key West was accessible in minutes by car or taxi and 20 - 30 minuted by bus but coming back on the days we did go there was a relief. The Hogfish at the end of the harbour was a real bonus and we had some excellent meals there and evening entertainment with live music from the bar could be enjoyed from our terrace and dock. I think music is at weekends only and finished at a reasonable hour. Fishbusterz opposite was an excellent place to pick up fresh seafood and even "eat with the fleet" as they advertised. The community at Safe Harbour is extremely friendly and welcoming. We would have no hesitation in recommending this well appointed and pretty place and hope to be able to come back someday. Thanks

I have been going down to the florida keys and Key West since 1972, I would have to say this was by far the best accomodations for the money and quick access to our many dive sites on both the Atlantic and gulf side. The Hofish Grill and bar were right there for a quick drink or bite to eat. The big tarpon eating almost out of our hands while cleaning our just caught Mahi was a huge hit with everyone. We also went over to the Oceanside Marina pool. Beautiful A+++. I will definetly be booking again for next year

If you want to stay in a clean, well maintained, well equipped place and also enjoy a private dock right outside your front door and private parking, then come on. If you have never experienced Stock Island before, be prepared that you will be entering what used to be the commercial fishing hub of Key West and the lower Keys as well as other marine related commercial activities. There is still commercial activity in the immediate area and a lot of local characters, but to a much lesser degree than years past. Bring your boat. The slip has a floating dock, deep water and will easily take at least a 46' boat with a 16' beam. (or maybe a little larger) There is shore power and fresh water dockside. I launched at nearby Oceanside Marina, stored my trailer in their locked compound and didn't worry about it for a week. We used the boat every day. Oceanside Marina, Yacht Clubs of America and Murray Marine are minutes away with fuel, bait, ice, tackle, etc. If you don't have towing membership, I recommend you get it before you go. ( Mike happens to own the Sea Tow service in Key West. He DID NOT ask me to put this in here, it is just good judgement on your part.) There are a lot of beautiful areas to experience and one incident or break down can cost you a bundle! Go prepared. You will also have access to the Yacht Clubs of America facilities and a pass to the Fort Taylor State Park near the southern most point. After a couple of days of diving and fishing, we had all of our family and friends who live in Key West over for a lobster and fish cookout and had no problem seating 14 folks inside and outside the place. Everyone complimented the condition and the added "Keys flavor" extras. The afternoon before the cookout, I realized the gas was low on the grill. One quick call to Mike and he was there in minutes to hook up another propane tank. My 82 year old mother stayed with us and loved the whole set up. She had lived in Key West in the 60's and early 70's and my wife and I lived and worked in Key West for almost 40 years, so we knew what to expect. If you are looking for a laid back, pet friendly, Keys experience, this is a great place. If you want valet parking, someone to turn down your sheets and leave a chocolate on your pillow, well................. I'm now trying to figure out how to get my cousin and other friends down from Ohio for a week long fishing / diving marathon. In summary, we had a great time and would do it again.

Loved the place, loved the dockage

Date of Stay: 07/15/10 Review Submitted: 08/05/10

When you first walk in, you do get the impression that it is small, but at no point in time did we feel crowded. The décor is soothing, and the place is very clean. The octagonal picnic table, wicker chair & loveseat and BBQ grill on the front patio were a great place to sip a drink, talk to everyone as they walked by, and cook your dinner all at the same time. Having the outside deep freezer was wonderful for storing extra ice and keeping bait and fish. Everyone on the pier was very nice and very helpful. Unfortunately, the wind blew 20-30 kts the entire time we were there, and each day people would come by to see if we were able to get out to fish, where we went, and to give suggestions of where we might want to try to go the next day. One day, one of the fishing boat captains even brought us a bag full of mangrove snapper because all we had caught that day was one fish! The dockage for the boat and the parking of the trailer were perfect. The dock is across the “driveway” from the front door. The floating dock is great. There’s a bench to sit at the end of the dock, and a fish-cleaning table at the other end. Water, electric and even a pump-out are right there too! Oceanside Marina is right around the peninsula, and you can use their boat ramp for a $10 fee. The trailer parking is about 500 ft away from the condo on the other side of the street, so bring a lock. Parking for one vehicle is also across the driveway, just in front of the boat dock (there is ample parking in an adjacent parking lot for other vehicles). It was great for loading and unloading coolers. We also found the STOCK ISLAND LOBSTER CO. 6639 Maloney Avenue, which would allow you to fill a marine cooler (they considered this a medium cooler) with ice for $6.00. We left one cooler in the truck, filled it with ice each day and then transferred the ice with a 5-gallon bucket. Definitely saved a lot of money on ice. The only "downfall" we could say would be the lack of a pool at the marina, but we did use the dipping pool one day. It was wonderful to get in that fresh water after spending the day getting soaked with salt water. The pool looks like it is one of those endless lap pools, so it is very small, but if no one else is in it, it is very comfortable. And you do have access to the Yacht Club of America (YCOA) and they have a beautiful pool. You can either take your boat around or just drive over. We absolutely loved the location. If you like the feel of being with the locals,

We rented this condo for our honeymoon. We brought our 24' sailboat (probably the smallest boat there!) so we could sail, but come home to a relaxing and comfy home since I rarely want to sail for more than 4 or 5 hours. The condo is really lovely - everything was perfect! The neighborhood was awesome and we spent a lot of time with the locals, everyone was very friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be back! I recommend going over to Fishbusterz Market for fresh seafood, we wished we had done that more than once - best scallops I've ever eaten. Also, though the Hogfish is good and convenient, the Rusty Anchor around the corner is great and much less expensive.

Great price on a nice and spacious for Key West place. Access to the marina was awesome. My family and I loved it, and will be trying to stay here again, the next time we visit the area. Very clean, very new inside. Lots of Key West feel to the place. We didn't use the slip, but looked like it would be easy to get in and out of. Hogfish restaurant is right next door, very convenient. We were very comfortable. I would highly recommend staying here when visiting Key West. This is a lot better of a place, and much better price than other places I've stay in and around Key West. The place is well represented in the ad, the pictures don't convey how nice the place is, the owner was very easy to work with and friendly. Right next door to Hogfish, great place to eat and relax, try the lobster bites! We went diving with Dive Key West, they operate out of the same marina you have access to, and it’s right down the street, very convenient. Short drive to Duval St. and everything it has to offer.

It was very clean with everything you needed for relaxing ,showers, and cooking. Excellent Key West like restaurant only 30 yards away and no noise to bother you when you retired. Enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and will deffinately come back. There was entertainment at the bar/restaurant on Friday and Saturday night. The freezer came in handy for our bait and fish. Thanks for making our trip a success.

Mike has done a great job with this condo! If you are a boater or love boats and the water, you will not be dissappointed. This place is very convenient to travel by boat into Key West and the neighboring islands as well as the fishing grounds either inshore or offshore. The Hogfish being in the marina is a definite plus, it has great food and some colorful characters. The condo interior and furnishings are first class and very comfortable. Access to the yacht club was also a definite plus as it gave us a pool to lounge by and drink service. I would highly recommend this rental and we will be back.

This condo was perfect!! Myself and three other friends traveled by boat 130 miles from Fort Myers Florida to fish the tropical waters of Key West. The owner Mike couldn't be a nicer guy. He knew we were arriving by boat so he was constantly checking in on us to make sure we arrived safely. We had our own boat slip 30 feet from the front door of the condo. The place was immaculate and unbelievably decorated. After a long day of fishing it was great to be able to dock the boat right in front of the condo and walk over to the Hog Fish bar for a few drinks and discuss the days catch.

We live in Miami and wanted a close, affordable, get-a-way. This is the cutest, CLEANEST place and owners Sandy & Mike could not have been nicer. We are not boaters but staying in this little area was a really cool change of pace watching the fishing boats come in. Don't let the neighborhood on the way in fool you - it's in a working class neighborhood and tucked back into the marina area - it is safe, everyone is so nice and it's quiet. It was great to wake up from a nap in the afternoon and stroll over to Hogfish for a snack and some drinks before heading down to Duvall Street. It's about a 10 minute car ride from downtown Key West so it's an easy cab ride if you don't want to drive. The condo is nicely decorated, super clean and really comfortable - perfect if you had kids but still wanted some privacy for mom and dad. I would highly recommend this to any one. You must get the pink shrimp & fish dip at hogfish next door and If you like sushi you MUST go to Ambrosia in Key West - just ask Sandy & Mike and they will point you in the right direction! AWESOME TRIP!

We planned a last-minute trip to Key West to escape the winter blues in Alabama! We stayed in this wonderful condo for our entire stay. We have 3 children, so it was great to be able to unpack and spread out. The kids loved watching the boats coming into and out of the 2 ports on each side of the condo. We were a bit concerned about the neighborhood when we first arrived, but our concerns were unfounded. The nights were quiet and peaceful, and the people around the docks were very pleasant and fun to talk to. Also, it was nice to be away from some of the noise of a very crowded Key West that was full of other excited spring-breakers! It was a short 5 minute drive from the condo into Key West and we were able to quickly learn our way around and back to the condo. We planned to do some cooking in the condo to save money, and the owner was quick to respond to some kitchen supplies we needed. This is a great place to stay, and we hope to return soon!

Staying here is such a great time. With water out your front door and water out your back door, how can you go wrong? Out boat was docked right out the front door and you are minutes from the ocean. In fact on our last trip here (yes, we are the first renters to be repeats and another trip is being planned) we only travelled by boat. Although its only a couple minutes drive to all the hot spots of Key West. And there is also a grocery store a couple minutes drive away. We visited the Yacht Club by boat and car, had lunch there and used the large swimming pool, I believe its heated because we were there when the weather was a little cooler and the pool was very warm. My 5 year old really enjoyed the beach area here. The kitchen had everything we could have needed, from blender to toaster to wine glasses. But if you don't want to cook on vacation, the condo is not even a minute walk to the Hogfish Restaurant, which is a local favorite, and mine as well. We ate out most every night and I had the best meal and service there. Also within walking distance is the Shrimp Shack. We stayed here with 5 adults and one child each time we were there and its very spacious for all of us. We fished off the docks and really enjoyed walking around the marina looking at the houseboats and fishing/shrimp boats. A couple times, we caught the fishing boats at the right time as they were unloading the day's catch. There is outdoor seating in the front and back, along with a grill out front. Do not hesitate to come here, it is a true Key West experience.

What a great condo! My daughter LOVED her room with all the colorful fish and bird decorations and the two other bedrooms were beautifully furnished and very comfortable. It is just a short drive down to Key West and we really enjoyed our stay. Because it was unseasonably cold while we visited we didn't use the pool at the Yacht club but it looked very nice. Overall a great place to stay!

We traveled to Key West for our oldest daughter’s wedding over Valentine’s Day. We stayed here with two of our other adult children. Mike and Sandy made us feel at home. The condo was quite roomy for the four of us and nicely equipped. The location provided us with easy access to downtown and the local sites. Enjoyed watching the boats roll in and out over the week. If you are looking at hotels you should reconsider and take advantage of the privacy and freedom (like being at home).

Shared this condo with a group of adults for New Year's. We were a little hesitant about the size and about the location, but trust me...it is worth it! The condo is beautifully decorated and well-equiped. The location is very cool: in the marina amongst fishermen and artsy folk. Just a short drive from Key West. And the access to the Yacht Club is a definite plus. The fitness room is a tad on the small side, but the locker room with showers, the heated pool and the fabulous Yacht Club restaurant more than made up for that. Although a large group of adults managed to share this space for 5 days, I would recommend it more for a family with children.

We live in south Florida are avid boaters and were looking for a place in Key West to spend 7 days with our boat and our 12lb. dog Buddy. "WE FOUND PARADISE" in this unique and beautiful place in Stock Island's Safe Harbor. The owners Michael and Sandy were most accommodating; they even had a beautiful bottle of wine on the kitchen counter for us, nice touch! The "House" (to us it was more like a house and not a condo) had beautiful decor, lighting and it was obvious allot of work and love went into putting this place together. What we loved about the place is how unique it was and the free access to the ocean in seconds from our dock right in front of our door and a great local inexpensive and rustic restaurant & bar called the Hogfish. Order the hogfish sandwich with everything, ITS SPECTACULAR! On our second day after coming home from a long day of boating and fishing we decided to go check out the private Yacht club of Americas (YCOA) that is included with renting the place. We enjoyed there huge pool, the food was great, the service was great and we had the place all to ourselves (very private and secluded). We have been boating in the Keys for many years and have stayed in many great places throughout the years and we agree, this place in safe harbor is up their with the best of them. Michael and Sandy my hats off to you, we really enjoyed our vacation immensely and you can be sure WE WILL BE BACK!!! Capt.Lui Lui,First Mate Jennifer and our mascot Buddy.
