Wonderful Mountain Chalet Apartment
Year Purchased: 2007
Why the Owner Chose Wengen
On one of our many travels around the world, we found ourselves in the small mountain village of Wengen, high in the Swiss Alps. We were looking out over the village and surrounding mountains from our hotel balcony and we both agreed it was one of the most beautiful sights we had ever seen. I looked over to Joyce and said, one day we will live here, 3 years later our dream came true.
The Unique Benefits at this Chalet
Wengen lies on a wind protected terrace at the foot of the Jungfrau, 400 metres above the Lauterbrunnen valley at an altitude of 1274 M. The tradition-imbued, car free holiday resort offers a family friendly ski and rambling area around the Mannlichen and the Kleine Scheidegg. With its nostalgic timber houses, the many dispersed holiday chalets and hotels dating from the "belle-epoque" period, this Bernese Oberland holiday resort has retained all the character of a picture postcard mountain village. Opening widely to the south west, the terrace guarantees above-average hours of sunshine. In the summer you can explore over 500 KM of marked walking trails and 15 mountain cableways that lead to the most beautiful vantage points of the Jungfrau region - take, for example, the classic panorama route between Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg, which offers a particularly impressive view of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Those who like things a bit more spirited might like to try their skill at paragliding, river rafting or canyoning. But for eye-popping amazement, you should walk the Eiger trail at the foot of the Eiger north face, a medium-difficulty mountain walking tour. Take a trip to the highest railway station in Europe, the Jungfrau railway-the most famous mountain railway in the world. Opened in 1912, this cog wheel railway leads to the highest railway station in Europe at 3454M above sea level. It stops at viewing platforms allowing fascinating views over the famous north wall of the Eiger and the glaciers of Eismeer. In Winter, Wengen is ideal with 110 KM of easy to medium-difficulty pistes, and the renowned World Cup piste on the Lauberhorn as its crowning glory. The neighbouring ski areas of the Jungfrau region, Grindelwald-First and Murren-Schilthorn are also readily accessible. The clean air, the long hours of sunshine-especially in winter-the toboggan runs and around 50 KM of winter hiking trails also serve to attract non-skiers to the sunny resort.

We have just arrived home from wonderful Wengen and we want to return NOW.Nestled high in the Swiss Alps its like a picture you would expect to see on a box of christmas chocolates.Surrounded by mountains with views down into the valley, no cars, pretty village houses and the pretty mountain village with its quaint shops and restaurants just a short walk away. The small mountain railway takes you up to the fabulous Eiger and if you want to keep going, up to the highest railway station in Europe, and the views are just incredible. The chalet itself was wonderful, spotless, fabulously equipped and very comfortable,we sat in out T shirts inside whilst the snow fell outside. Its very modern so the kitchen and bathrooms are top knotch, couldnt fault anything and its very well furnished. If you are skiing its right on the slopes, plus we will definately return one summer as its in just the right place to expore all the mountain walks, infact your right on them. Wengen is one of the places in the world you must visit and I promise you you will not be dissapointed and Chalet Brunner is the place to stay to enjoy all it has to offer.Dear owners, thank you again and thank you for all your assistance leading up to our visit it was most helpful. We will return.

The flat itself was clean and well-maintained. My only comment is that we arrived in Wengen at 6:40 p.m. We were staying at an off-peak time, mind you, but the village is a bit of a ghost town. The grocery store was closed for the evening, and it was difficult to find a place to eat. There were no taxis in sight, and this flat is up a steep mountain and a good 10-15 minute walk from the train. When we arrived at the flat, we were dismayed that there was absolutely no soap available, and there was nowhere to buy the soap until the next morning. I don't recommend visiting Wengen at an off-peak time, as all the warm weather paths were all closed, but the cold weather paths aren't open yet for the season [despite inches of snow]! In an off-peak time, you would be much better off staying in Lauterbrunnen or Interlaken or someplace bigger, that has more to do.
Owner response:Dear Nola, Thank you kindly for taking the time to submit a review, a 4/5 is a good score, however we do take on board your comments and intend to introduce the following procedures. For visitors that intend to arrive late we will discuss leaving a welcome pack for them to include essentials to see them through to the next day.The local shop closes at 6.30 every day including high season, so we understand the problem.Soap was in the chalet, unfortunately in glass mirror cabinets in the bathrooms, that dont look like cabinets, we will leave it out in future. There is a free telephone link directly to the taxi at the station which you must have missed, in future we will make sure visitors have the number before they arrive. We do really appreciate your comments, thank you.

Traveling with my mother and 2 sisters, Chalet Brunner was the absolute perfect accomodation for us. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful location with the Jungfrau off the back terrace, and the quaint village of Wengen with restaurants and grocery shopping just a few minutes down the hill. The property is spacious for 6, immaculately maintained, and of course the owner Paul was extremely accomodating in making our plans. We hope to return soon! I highly recommend a visit to the Schilthorn, then hike from Murren to Gimmelwald and tram down to the valley for a stop at Trummelbach Falls...a great day of activities.
Owner response:Dear Nancy, Thank you kindly for your comments, we hope you return soon, you still have in excess of 100 hiking trails to explore. Kindest regards Paul

We loved the unit in CHALET Brunner.... beautiful apartment, contemporary furniture, stunning views from the walk-out living room, quiet location ( a bit up the hill, 5 min walk from "center"/ train station etc). We heard the cow bells and looked up the mountain at the glaciers (once the clouds allowed it) Our stay could not have been more relaxing (just wished there would have been less rain, but that's out of everybody's control, right?). The owner did an excellent job in replying to my numerous emails before our arrival - it was great - definitely want to be back for a longer stay than the 4 nights we had this time. Thank you, Paul!

Chalet Brunner.....Heaven on earth...a gem tucked away in the Swiss Alps that literally, takes your breath away. Sitting in the living room, watching skiers whizz past you, not something you see on a normal day in your living room at home! The rooms are very spacious with impressive separate bathrooms and storage. The village has everything you could need, even for a family with kids. We did not want to leave Chalet Brunner!

There's one word to describe Wengen - perfect! We've been here three times and had a great time, every time. The apartment was spacious, comfortable and homely, with all the mod cons and what a perfect position! You're a walk or ski from the station, right at the end of a ski run and right next to a friendly, fun snow bar, a great place to end the day and watch the sun go down. The scenery, the village, the people and the food are all good. We've had a great time with lovely people and can't wait until next time.

We just wanted to say thank you for the lovely holiday we have just had in your beautiful apartment. We found it very comfortable and spacious and perfect for our needs. It is very well equipped. There can't be many apartments with a choice of champagne glasses! The weather could have been kinder but we were still able to do everything we wanted. We really love Wengen and are sure that we will want to book your lovely apartment again in the future. Once again thank you

chalet brunner is fantastically located just a couple of minutes walk from the centre of Wengen and yet literally at the end of the slopes so you can truly ski back to the front door. the chalet itself is bright , airy spacious and modern with all furnishings and finishes to a superb standard. I have stopped in many ski chalets and this is definitely the best both for location and standard of accomodation - could not recommend it more strongly cheers
