Wiggins cabin description

Club Red is located on a beautiful, white sandbar on Red Creek. It has sandstone-colored ceramic tile throughout the house except for the bedrooms, which have beige Berber carpet. The great room's glass wall looks out over the creek and sandbar. It is located two miles from Wiggins on a 3 acre lot which is very quiet and secluded. The cabin is raised 14 ft., and is not handicap accessible. There are chairs and tables and charcoal barbeque pit underneath the cabin.

The cabin has two levels. On the first level, there are two bedrooms. One has a king size bed and the other, a queen size bed. There is a full bath in the hallway on this level. On the second floor, there is one bedroom with two full size beds. In the loft area, there is a daybed without a trundle and a half bath. There is also an outside shower and toilet on the bottom level where picnic tables and bbq pits are located.
In the summer, the creek is normally about two- to four-feet deep and is perfect for tubing, kayaking or canoeing. It is a five-hour canoe trip from the cabin to Highway 49. It is a one-hour canoe trip from Highway 26 to the cabin.

There are lounge chairs available that are perfect for sitting in the creek and visiting with friends or building a campfire on the sandbar and watching the stars.

In the winter, the land takes on a different beauty. The leaves will begin to fall after the first frost and the woods become a great place to hike and enjoy nature. Across the sandbar, there is usually a procession of goats, donkeys, ponies, and many other animals. There is even the occasional sightings of deer and beaver. Quite an array of wildlife.
If you get enough of the peace and quiet, there are casinos on the coast - an hour away. In Wiggins -two miles away, Pine Burr Country Club offers golfing with the most reasonable green fees in the area. At Blaylock Park in Wiggins, there are tennis courts free to the public. Also in town, there are a few antique shops and some interesting eateries.
The Desoto National Forest is a controlled game reserve that provides fine hunting and numerous nature trails.

                  • Red Creek has been described in The Times Picayune as: ....a laid-back adventure. 'Paddlers exploring the gentle, caramel-colored waters of R ed Creek near Wiggins, MS, may find the most useful paddling stroke is no stroke at all. Often paddlers need only relax and drift inches from the rippled sand bottom. The contrast between the nearly white sand and the darker tannin-stained creek water gives Red Creek its name. Plan on traveling about 1 1/2 mph, not counting stops, while on the stream. Because of numerous sandbars, inviting stops for picnics, swimming, or just lounging in the sun, a shorter trip will offer the most relaxation.' The creek will flood after heavy rains, but when it recedes, this is the best time to find driftwood and petrified wood. It is perfect for kayaking and can be canoed, but blow-downs, trees, and logs in the creek, will either have to be steered around, or dragged over, depending on the water level. It's always an adventure....moreless

One of the reasons we chose Club Red was because they allowed us to bring our big dogs. We had such a good time we can't wait to go back. The house was just what we expected. There were only three of us, so we had more than enough room. The beach was even better than we expected. The dogs ran up and down the sand until they could barely get back up the stairs. In the evenings we watched movies and played games while the worn out pooches snored. We never saw the goats on the other side of the creek, but we did see deer every morning and we saw two donkeys. All of my questions were answered, and the owner was very helpful. The location is perfectly located. You are surrounded by nature, but can get to the beach in less than an hour. We had to try the friend green tomatoes at The Whistle Stop, and we also ate at The Frosty Mug. Both were great, and had patios so the dogs were able to go with us. The Armed Forces Museum at Camp Shelby was great, and my daughter was excited about our trip to The Hard Rock Cafe. We did not get to take advantage of the deck or creek, because it was very cold when we were there. We would definitely recommend Club Red to friends and relatives who want a quiet get away. Thank you for the wonderful, relaxing and much needed family time.

Owner response: Thank you for your wonderful review. Sorry you didn't get to see the goats....but that's great you saw the deer. I stayed there last March, and there was a pet beaver who decided to use the walkway to the sandbar....and would then swim back across the bank before dark, and this lasted about a month....and then there was the occasional wild turkeys. It is truly God's country. I am glad you got to enjoy it and the local eateries, as well as visiting the Coast and Hattiesburg. Again, thank you for treating my home as yours.

This vacation rental was one of the best we have ever had! Let me start by saying the home is beautiful, very large, comfortable, peaceful, fully equipped, centrally located for many attractions and very private. It was just my husband and I so needless to say we had more room than we needed but it sure was nice to have all the living space! We very much enjoyed the upper deck and would wait each day for the goats across the creek to come by herded by 2 large white dogs. The melody of their bells chiming can only be described as serene! We enjoyed lazy kayak trips on the creek and exploring all the local attractions. Gulfport and Biloxi are about 30 minutes away and have much to offer. The home was spotless, very well appointed and the antiques did not go unnoticed! We enjoyed the owners great collection of music and in the chilly evenings would watch from a great selection of DVDs. Including Deliverance! HA! The kitchen was so well stocked that we needed nothing. We would cook breakfast and then dine out for lunch and dinner. You must eat fried green tomatoes at The Whistle Stop Cafe in Wiggins! We really enjoyed the nearby Water Park. We hiked around the park area as it was November and the actual water part of the park was closed. Each evening we would build a little fire outside and wait for the appearance of Big Foot! We never saw him although there is a sign posted along the drive warning you that he has been spotted..haha! Although we had no difficulty locating the cabin I can see that if your first arrival is in the dark, it could be quite challenging! I really cannot say enough good things about our stay and working with the owner was always a pleasant experience. She was very helpful and always answered my emails promptly. If you have large group and are looking for an awesome and quiet get away, this is the place for you! I think the summer/warm months would be awesome since you are right on the creek and boating, sunbathing and swimming would be a lot of fun! Thanks for a lifetime of great memories at Club Red!

Owner response: What a wonderful review. I am so glad you enjoyed the cabin and the woods. I love watching the goats across the creek and the dogs keeping them in line. Each time, I have to stop what I'm doing and just watch the procession. ...and the fried green tomatoes in Wiggins.....always a treat. That was quite a vacation you had.... a week in New Orleans, then the vacation in Stone County. Thanks for choosing the cabin.....and thanks for your kind words.

This camp is an excellent place to stay if you wanna do some tubing during the summer. We launched from Hwy 26 and were thinking that it was going to be a short, 2 hr float. As it turned out, it was more like 3 hours which was perfect. When we finished, we had a BBQ on the beach, and it was loads of fun. Every one of my friends loved the place, and we are planning a return trip.

This location has everything you need for a relaxing weekend- a private beach, a fully stocked cabin, hiking trails, and isolation from the "real world." At first I was aggravated that my cell phone reception wouldn't work well, but then I found it to be a blessing in disguise- (as I was better off enjoying my vacation and not taking emails from work...) There are hiking trails about 10 mins from the cabin. These trails are part of the Tuxachanie National Recreation trail. The parking area and trail head can be found at these coordinates: N30 39.996 W89 08.013. Enter it into Google Maps, and it will show you where to start. The first trail is a 5.5mile walk to Airey Lake Campground. If you hike there and back, it is a total of 11 miles, and I suggest planning on spending most of the day hiking. Bring a picnic lunch to eat at the campground, and bring extra granola bars to feed the ducks. If the temperature is still 85+, make sure to bring lots of water. My girlfriend and I went through 5 bottles of drinking water, and we could've used more. DO NOT hike the 2nd leg of the Tuxachanie Trail. It takes you from Airey Campground to POW camp. It's 7 miles in length, 14 miles roundtrip. We finished this trail last year but it was miserable. We love to hike, but some parts of this trail are not easily distinguishable or accessible. If its summer time, make sure to bring lots of sunscreen and bug spray. If its winter time, bring lots of extra wood to build a fire. I haven't went kayaking or tubing down the creek. I plan on definitely tubing during my next trip. You'll need two vehicles (or a ride) to easily accomplish this. There were several kayaks and tubes already available at Club Red.

Owner response: Thank you for your review. I learned a lot about the hiking trails from the review. Being a semi-local, sometimes we forget to appreciate what is in our back yard, so to speak. It is a bit of a shock when the cell phones don't work, but usually, everybody breathes a sigh of relief....the world does carry on without them. HA. Thank you again for the information provided in your review. I just may strike out on one of those hikes one day myself.

I will admit that I panicked when we first arrived because I had no cell phone service. However, after two days of hearing my kids laugh almost constantly, seeing how excited my ten year old was to skip a rock and my six year old constantly covered in dirt and sand, I'd say Club Red is the perfect place to fall off the grid. The short weekend wasn't nearly long enough. So sad to leave.

This place is absolutely fabulous! I am so in love and my family will be visiting again soon I hope! The cabin is cozy and roomy all at the same time. There were 7 of us - 2 parents and 5 kids from 13 down to 3. Something for everyone at the creek. I enjoyed the sand that was as good as the Florida beach and the boys swam, fished and we all went tubing. Everyone wants to go back and that says a lot.Thank you Joni for a wonderful weekend that was so refreshing for our family.
