Location: Rhinebeck, Hudson Valley, New York, USA (Rhinecliff is on the Hudson River, Two Hours North of NYC)

Accommodations:  House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 8-10)

Our home is perfect for family reunions, but also for those who would like a charming retreat for quiet creativity, bird watching, or contemplation. It's large and spacious, and light-filled, though cozy in winter with a wood-burning fireplace. A couple of years ago we added a glass conservatory, and installed a heated Endless Pool which provides year-round exercise and enjoyment.

The master bedroom is secluded from the rest of the house, and has a view over the acre of woods and the pond, with its turtles and frogs. The en suite bathroom has marble tiles, underfloor heating, and a large tub, and double shower. A washer and dryer are to be found in this bathroom. The master bedroom has its own TV room adjacent.

A powder room is on the main floor, as well as an open plan kitchen, fireside room, living room and dining room. An enclosed porch with a TV is cozy as a game room and can be used for most of the year. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, and a TV room with additional kitchen equipment, - coffee maker, kettle, microwave.

We are located in a quiet village, but within walking distance to the library with its community events, Amtrak train station - less than two hours to Manhattan; the Rhinecliff Hotel with its excellent restaurant. Ten minutes away is the village of Rhinebeck, with its charming shops and restaurants. The area is known for its cultural activities (see Bard College), festivals, glorious fall colors, proximity to stately mansions like Wilderstein and Mills Mansion. Our bikes and kayaks may be used by our guests.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1992

This is a picture of me and my dear husband, Ian, who passed away in June, 2009. The photo was taken a couple of years ago in Manhattan where we had a home. Ian was a professor of finance, and I was a librarian. Our passion is for nature conservation, and we rent out our properties to fund our nature reserves in Costa Rica and South Africa.

Why the Owner Chose Rhinebeck

We loved the charm of this house built in the 1920's, but expanded and renovated in recent years. We like the woodsy character of the surroundings, the quiet cul de sac, the peek-a-boo of the Hudson River nearby. It's wonderful to be able to walk to the Library, Post Office, dinner at the local Rhinecliff Hotel or China Rose. And Amtrak is just a 15 minute walk away to take you into Manhattan for the day.

The Unique Benefits of this House

The house is perfect for family reunions, light-filled and spacious, yet cozy in the winter with a wood-burning fireplace. The indoor wave pool we put in is wonderful for year-round exercise and fun.
