A stone-built 19th century tower-mansion renovated and extended in 2008, by architect and owner Elena Zervoudaki, preserving the building traditional elements and combining them with the minimal interiors to produce the sensation of serenity.
The mansion is 150 sq.m. and is built into the ground slope, so that it evolves over 3 levels, each with access to the garden and yards. The house has two apartments that can be separated: the katoi (sleeps 4-5) and the anoi (sleeps 4-5). It is surrounded by a garden with olive trees, rocks and a cave, 200 meters from the village parking facilities. It is an ideal place for privacy and relaxation.
Built by using local materials and techniques, rainwater harvesting and eco friendly waste disposal system for irrigation, the house is considerate to the environment.
Situated in the south of Peloponese, in eastern Mani, at Exo Nyfi, a traditional village, with stone-built towers, five minutes away from the sea, by car.

Year Purchased: 1989
I have always lived in big cities, born in Athens and studied in Paris Architecture. During my studies I often visited Mani and been attracted by its unique and harsh landscape. My profession helped me to understand the "aura" of the area and appreciate the atmosphere of the house. Seduced by these elements, decided to buy a property there and make it my "home village" in the future. Now, after fifteen years, we decided with my husband to rebuild the old house with modern facilities, respecting the traditional character of the place. i practice Architecture and have my own office in Down town Athens.
Why the Owner Chose Gythion
when i was studying architecture in Paris i visited many places in Greece and abroad. I was attracted by Mani’s unique atmosphere and spectacular landscape. I was captivated by the area’s unspoiled environment, its blue seas, endless sunshine, the quality of the light there, its romantic stone towers, and its wildness. Yet despite its romantic isolation, the house is only 330 kms from Athens, the capital of Greece and it's easy to reach. I thought it would be a "bargain" and i think it's proved to be correct.
The Unique Benefits of this House
The proximity of the property to Athens means that we can leave at any hour of the day from Athens and be in the Mani property within 3-4 hours. From the moment we step into the house we can forget the big city and relax in total peace and quiet with only birdsong for company. The village in which the house is located is very small and has few permanent inhabitants. The beaches are within easy reach and it is possible to swim in warm waters from May until October. In the evening it is wonderful to sit and relax on one of the houses terraces and enjoy the sun over crystal clear waters and the moon rising on a calm sea. The house retains its traditional character yet contains all the modern conveniences that the visitor requires.
