Start with what Frommer’s Guide says are Sapphire Beach’s “Jawdropping Views”. And you won't get closer to the water than this listing unless you rent a boat.
Add the taste of two New York designers whose clients, past and present, include Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford, Giorgio Armani. Vintage bamboo furniture with white upholstery, blue and white Chinese porcelains, white tile floors and a framed collection of 1940's black and white sailing photos. With the key component of total privacy from passersby or neighbors, and the luxury of enough space to allow you to catch some quiet moments completely to yourself.
A two level duplex with connecting mahogany staircase, each level with it's own terrace, floor to ceiling 14 foot wide walls of glass with unmatchable views and pure white curtains pulled to the sides. From inside the apartment, you will not see anything but turquoise and sapphire blue water - as if you are sailing on an ocean liner with your own balconies. The photos tell the story.
Downstairs, a comfortable living room with an optional sleeping couch and armchair, an outdoor dining table for up to 6, a desk and bureaus. Sliding mahogany doors can separate your kitchen area. A downstairs bathroom comes complete with two-sink vanity and shower. Generous baskets filled with luxurious beach towels.. Large new flatscreen cable tv with dvd, video and all channels. A Bose dock for your ipod.
Outside on the 11 X 14 foot terrace, banquettes and chaise lounges with total privacy. No one looking down from balconies above you or up from the beach below, allows morning to midday sunbathing with total privacy. The downstairs terrace has a tropical mosquito net to allow sleeping outdoors in the moonlight if you wish to really live out your island fantasy. Outdoor breakfast/lunch tables for four. Oiled louvered tropical wood side walls add the luxury of Caribbean style. Constant cooling tradewind breezes.
Upstairs, the Master Suite at the top of the mahogany stairs is crowned with a 18 foot high cathedral ceiling. Hurricane lamps, white ceiling fan, vintage bamboo furniture, tropical wood doors, blue and white Chinese porcelains and upholstery, a black and white vintage sailing image gallery, and a huge king size bed to get lost in. Second flatscreen tv, dvd, video. Another wall of floor to ceiling glass with extraordinary views of the British Virgin Islands, St. John and the Cays, not to mention the turquoise and sapphire water of your imagination and the covers of travel magazines.
Each evening, open a great bottle of wine, tax free in the USVI, go out on the upstairs terrace to watch the sunset coloring the clouds and the moonrise over British Tortola. After dark, light the candles inside and on the terraces, turn off the lights, and sit listening to the waves below. Watch the lights glittering on the islands, the ferries going to and from Cruz Bay, the glow of the restaurants at Caneel Bay, a million stars above you. Bliss.
Everything that you could wish to do will be waiting for you each morning. Swimming on your half mile sugar white beach in turquoise water. Snorkeling on the reefs directly under your terraces. Sunning on your terrace chaises or by the magnificently sited fresh water pool. Reading in the shade of the palm trees. Wandering the docks of the marina looking at yachts and talking to the fishermen back with their day’s catch. The E building is at the quiet end of the resort, with it's own beach, and perfectly oriented views. No noise from the pool, or crowds of tourists. Ever. A true escape.
FREE snorkeling and, beach chairs are all pre-paid for at the Watersports Pavilion down the beach, with rentable kayaks, windsurfing and paddling boards. Plus scuba diving classes for low fees. At Sapphire’s Marina, literally downstairs from the E Building, are everything from Jet Skis, Parasailing, Catamaran Cruises to Jost Van Dyke and legendary White Bay with The Soggy Dollar Bar, Sportfishing for marlin and whatever else you desire to fish, Powerboat day rentals, even Day Sails on Yachts if your wallet allows.
Day trips to St John to Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay, Hawks Nest Beach are minutes away at the Redhook Ferry. You have no need to rent a car the week you stay with us. Day rentals of jeeps are available for $70.00,rentable downstairs in the lobby by A building. You can visit all of St Thomas’s favorite sites. The beautiful Danish colonial town of Charlotte Amalie, with its shady Royal Palm Passage offers you hours of wonderful shopping with world famous bargains in jewelry, watches and liquor. There are fantastic restaurants within 5 to 10 minutes in Redhook, our quarter-mile-away village with shops, markets, bars, restaurants, and ferries, or on the list we provide you of our own personal picks.
You will be met at the airport by our good friend Smitty, who is an islander who knows a lot more about St Thomas than I ever will. He will take you to Sapphire and on the way show you some of the sights, including Drake's Seat with it's magnificent views of the islands, then a stop at Marina Market for supplies where he will wait for you and then bring you "home".
Your Caribbean Hideaway is for a couple who want a feeling of casual luxury at the beach with the traditional feel of the elegant easy going Old Caribbean. If you want quiet, privacy and space, with some style thrown in, if you don't want to cook, eat, and sleep, in the same room, then this beautiful two floor duplex is just the place to chill and to restore your spirit. We truly love kids, but this just is NOT the place for them. NO exceptions for anyone under 21. This is a quiet, low key, casually elegant retreat for adults to savor and to unwind in.

We have stayed in many different condos on Sapphire (the best beach in St. Thomas) because our son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren live there. We feel that we have now found a home away from home and will stay at this fabulous condo every trip. There are wonderful design details, great colors and the view is amazing!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway, age 55+.

We truly had a marvelous stay at Sapphire Beach. The condo was amazing and superseded our expectations. The owners were very helpful and thought of every comfort that we might need, right down to the amazing pillows and Redken hair products. We were picked up at the airport and taken to the grocery store to secure the items we wanted to stock our kitchen. Many condiments, spices, and all of the utensils were already at the condo awaiting our arrival. We used the kitchen regularly, and we really enjoyed the view from our balcony as we ate. The moon was gorgeous. The sunrises were unbelievable. And even the thunderstorm was full of awe. We loved everything about the condo, the beach, the pool, and the beautiful views. We hope to return soon.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

This condo is wonderfully equipped and maintained. The care that the hosts, Peter and Beverly have put into it is evident. It faces St. John’s with Tortolla in the background. There is a million dollar view from either balcony. The downstairs balcony has front to back cushioned/pillowed seating flanking both sides with a dining table and lounge chair. Upstairs has seating and a lounge chair. Both areas are great for an afternoon nap and the downstairs is terrific for a moonlit dinner. Especially nice was the breeze that allowed us to pass the night with the sliding doors open and soothing sounds of surf. The beach accommodations are great with the use of beach chairs every day and use of snorkel gear and rafts each day if wanted. Snorkeling was very good with a variety of colorful Tangs, some Jacks, etc. There are some large trees just above high water on the beach that provide nicely shaded spots for folks who tan even when hiding from the sun. The ducks on the beach make a great backdrop to the beauty of Sapphire Bay. They are non-intrusive and great to watch. Peter provided us with a detailed set of information and recommendations that made this first visit as easy as if it were our fifth or tenth. His arrangements for our pickup at the airport by our new friend and Sapphire Beach condo neighbor, Smitty went like clockwork. We were treated to a tour of some of the island’s most prominent sights on our way and he stopped by the Food Center in Red Hook for us to provision before getting us to the condo. Our host’s recommendations for dining were excellent. We enjoyed a number of good restaurants in and near Red Hook. Even during our visit our host responded to a question or two with the courtesy and promptness that made us feel like friends and not clients. Overall, we can recommend this condo with a great rating. For an early January stay, we had a great time in the sun, on the beach and in the water.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+.

We have been coming to Sapphire Beach for 6 years & have stayed in many different units. Peter & Beverly's unit is by far the best we have ever stayed in. The pictures are exactly how we found the unit & we have never felt so much at home as we did here. I think they have thought of everything to make a relaxing and comfortable stay. The views are just incredible. The snorkeling at Sapphire is awesome and again everything you need is there. The marina next door has day trips, fishing trips, parasailing & wave runners, just perfect!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

My wife and I were married on 12-1-2012. We went to St. Thomas for the honeymoon, and we stayed at Peter and Beverly's condo at Sapphire Beach. It was absolutely fabulous. Smitty picked us up from the airport, showed us around the island a bit, took us to the grocery store, and then carried our bags up to our room. The condo was very well decorated, and had an outstanding view of St. John. This was also my first visit to USVI. There were considerable mosquitoes in the islands, but we only had trouble with them in two places: Annaberg Ruins on St. John (absolutely horrible swarm, as it had just rained) and Honeymoon Beach on Water Island. The snorkeling was fantastic. I had never snorkeled. We saw numerous multi-colored fish and a sting ray in the reef at the condo. We charted a boat through Nate's Charters in Redhook on Monday. He did a fantastic job showing us Jost van Dyke BVI and parts of St. John on our private trip. Overall the whole experience was just great so much more so than stopping in on a cruise. We didn't meet a single person the entire week that said or did anything unfriendly. The Food Center grocery store was a bit pricey, but we did find a store called the Dolphin Market in Cruz Bay, St. John that was very reasonable priced. Island Time in Redhook has awesome pizza, but be careful not to drink too much across the street at Duffy's, that's easy to do. Definitely try the "Painkillers" while in the area, especially if you are able to make your way to Foxy's on Jost van Dyke. They're my new favorite drink. I really thought about calling Peter and telling him he wasn't getting his condo back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Thank you, Peter & Beverly, for allowing us to spend a week in your beautiful & well-appointed Condo. We spent every minute we could on those balconies enjoying the breathtaking view. A full moon seemed to enter the living room - we didn't need candles or even the night-setting on the camera, it was so bright and amazing! A deep sea fishing tournament started during our week & each morning we were treated to a parade of amazing fishing boats & yachts heading out from Red Hook & the next-door Marina. Your Condo is clean, beautiful & very comfortable. I cooked several meals & the kitchen had everything I could have wanted. Joe needed to work a few evenings and the WIFI connection worked well, even during a short storm. We loved having two beautiful full bathrooms, lots of towels, beach bags & hats (I added my cowboy hat to the collection; I wanted a tiny bit of me to stay there). Your recommendations & advice was so valuable & really so kind of you to provide. We were well-cared for by all the attentive Sapphire Beach-area employees. We snorkeled each day in the amazing Sapphire Beach reef and were treated to large turtles grazing on sea grass. We took the car-ferry to St John and also ferried to Tortola & Jost Van Dyke- so easy & interesting & fun. We drove all over "our" island, found your restaurant advice to be on-the-money & and just generally hated that we had to leave. We are planning our own return & recommending your Condo to our dear friends & business associates. Thank you for making sure our vacation was wonderful. We just spent 10 of the most glorious days of our lives at Peter and Beverly's beautiful villa on Sapphire Beach. This villa is everything we hoped for and so much more. It is beautifully and tastefully decorated but not in a pretentious way....a very comfortable way. From the moment we arrived we felt at home there. You will LOVE the balconies, especially the lower one. Every day when we were out on the beach I would look up at the other units and not one could come close to comparing to the comfort they have provided here for their guests. Stretch out on the super comfy, padded, pillowed benches that are 9 feet long!!! Like they say, you will live here. I know I did. Every night I fought sleep because I didn't want to leave that balcony and go to bed :) Inside, everything you could possibly hope for is provided for you to make your stay even better. The living areas are spacious and comfy, upstairs and down. The 2 full bathrooms are stocked with Redken shampoo and conditioner (full size bottles) Ivory soap (welcome back childhood :),TP, kleenex....you name it. There are more beach towels than we could possibly use in 10 days and we went to the beach every day at least once. The kitchen is small but efficient and every manner of pots, pans, dishes, glassware is provided. I was amazed at all that was stored in those cabinets and drawers. Peter and Beverly were wonderful people to work with on planning our stay. I emailed often with questions and never waited more than a few hours for an answer and usually it was within minutes. They will have their man Smitty meet you at the airport and drive you out to Sapphire and then return you to the airport at the end of your stay if you wish. You will be within a 5 minute drive to Red Hook where you can shop, dine or catch a ferry or charter boat. It is the perfect location. The resort has a guard on duty at the gate 24/7 and security around the grounds. We never felt any reason to feel unsafe though. It is a lovely place for sure. We hope to be back there sooner than later and will not hesitate to stay at Peter and Beverly's villa. It is heaven!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, age 55+.

I visited this Condo for a week in March 2012. At first I was skeptical because I only saw 5 star reviews and not a single negative comment. After staying at the place, I assure you that it merits all 5 stars and all the positive reviews. The condo is right on the beach. The view of the water and St. John and Tortola in the distance is breathtaking and I ended up spending as much time on the terrace as at the beach. The unit is very nicely decorated and also has a fully equipped kitchen. There is a marina conveniently located only footsteps from the condo with chartered boat-tours. Red-hook is an ~2 min taxi ride or a 10 min walk away and has many bars and restaurants as well as ferries to St. John and other islands.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+.

A week isn't nearly long enough. The most wonderful thing about Peter and Beverly's place (apart from the location, the fabulous beach and snorkeling a few feet from your door, the tradewinds that blow through, the two private decks, and the great support staff they have in place) is that even though the condo is every bit as beautifully decorated as an Architectural Digest spread, it is comfortable enough to put your bare feet up, light some candles, take a deep breath and just relax. All the stuff on the mainland will still be there when you return. But in the meantime, you can't find a better place to help you create your new reality and do what vacations are best for doing -- as little as possible!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, age 55+.

If you miss the la di dah stuff, get dressed and go spend a few hours with the blackberry Lexus crowd. You'll love the fact that their beach and view is no match for Sapphire's. Come home knowing you are cool and they are SOO not. Go for the GREAT massages at the spa. Get the 90 minute.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: My wife and I are both designers living in New York City. My family has had a home in St Thomas for over 50 years up on Crown Mountain in Caret Bay. Beverly and I fell in love with Sapphire during a visit to Saint Thomas, and took two years to locate and buy what we thought was the perfect condo. We have been renovating and improving it ever since. We provide our guests with Airport pickups and drop-offs which saves on time and money, 90.00 per couple. We also provide free snorkeling, kayak and windsurfing equipment at the Watersports Center and beach chair services.
Why the Owner Chose Sapphire Beach Resort & Marina:
We were stunned when we saw Sapphire Beach for the first time. Beverly and my daughter discovered that the "hotel" was in fact condominiums. The search was on. We located the 4 ideal units we wanted to buy, and then waited until E-304 became available. Why did we do it? I was so tired of staying in the "not best" rooms in hotels and resorts. I wanted to feel like I finally was staying in the Perfect Rooms with the Perfect View in the Most Beautiful Place. That is how our duplex feels to us and why we are always thrilled to return. No more envy and wishing. Just pure joy.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
The two terraces hang literally 30 feet from the waters edge, so that you feel as if you are floating on a ship in the turquoise and sapphire sea. The duplex works wonderfully with two bathrooms, no sharing or waiting to shower. With two floors, there is privacy for you whenever you want it. You can find a place to read while your partner watches tv or sleeps in...perfect to really rest and recharge. The upstairs wood ceiling is 17'-6"" high and that feels like the real Old Caribbean to us. Space, height, and privacy are the true luxuries of your Caribbean Hideaway.
