Isle La Motte house description
Beautiful, new home (2007) on the east side of historic Isle La Motte looking at Vermont's Green Mountains. 100 feet of lake front beach on Holcomb Bay with a state boat access nearby. This house is on a dead end road with only 2 houses past ours. There are 2 kayaks (one 1-person, 1-2 person), a dock off the beach and a floating dock further out in the deeper part of the bay. Come spend a peaceful vacation biking and walking around the historic island, learning about the historical reefs and St Anne's Shrine, relax in Adirondack chairs overlooking the lake and enjoy a night-time campfire.
Isle La Motte: Situated on the shores of Lake Champlain on historic Isle La Motte, this house has a beautiful view looking east over of the Green Mountains of Vermont.
The island is approximately 7 miles long and 2 miles wide. Of all the Lake Champlain islands it is the most remote, least commercialized and most peaceful. It has great walking and biking as well as some spots to visit including St Anne's Shrine, and apple orchards
Nearby is the the oldest reef in the world, Chazy Reef, where the dark Chazy limestone of southern Isle La Motte is from --480 million years ago--and it's teaming with fossils. Several island quarries provided this famous decorative black marble used for major projects, such as the Brooklyn Bridge, and several local buildings. Fisk Quarry, also here on Isle La Motte, is an outdoor museum containing world renowned, 480,000,000 year-old fossils. The Goodsell Ridge Fossil Preserve is within walking distance and the Fisk Quarry is an easy bike ride.
Montreal and Burlington: The exciting cities of Montreal and Burlington are one hour away.
In Montreal, one hour north, enjoy exciting night life and special events such as the international Jazz Festival, comedy festival, and the Montreal Grand Prix. You need a passport to cross over into Canada and to return.
Burlington is one hour drive south through the Lake Champlain Islands. Burlington is a great little city with a museum and waterfront park, nice shopping and great dining.
