Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2004

I first came to the Virgin Islands in the early 80's and worked as a chef on charter-boats out of St. Thomas. Tortola appealed to me with its unique charm of wandering cows, pigs & chickens and tranquil beaches. My mother also followed me down here & met my step father, the late Tortola born Jazz musician Jon Lucien. When I first saw this property I knew it was the one. It has all the quite charm you could wish for in West Indian tradition with exterior stone details and high tongue and grooved ceiling. Little did I know when I first saw the property that is was located close to Jon's birth place & a first cousin to Jon had helped to build it. The Islands have always called me back for yearly visits and Lime Leaf has been the perfect retreat for me to paint, write, swim & snorkel, boggy board, kite board, lay on the beach & dance to reggae music. I am an Interior Decorator, Professional & Instructional Artist. I totally refurbished this cottage with lots of artistic touches like custom hand tooled tin work cabinets and tile work.

Why the Owner Chose Josiah's Bay

This was the quiet retreat I was looking for. A quiet place on a country lane where cows meander by and chickens crow. A short walk to the almost private beach where buggy boarding & surfing dominate Nov thru April and flat waters in the summer. Several beach side bars & restaurants for food or refreshment. A quiet place for reflection to paint or write and a cool retreat from the sun after a day at any of the convenient beaches or mingling with tourists at the nearby large hotel pool (that I didn't have to maintain but could enjoy). It had the old West Indian charm with the high ceilings, stone work enclosed patio seating and beautiful mature flowering foliage. I enjoy the private driveway and you don't have to go a great distance up & down hilltops to get to the grocery store, there's one 3 minutes away on the East End.

The Unique Benefits of this Cottage

One of the most enjoyable things about staying at Lime Leaf is that you have your privacy. You can come & go as you please without walking into a public place. You can sit on the front porch to drink your morning coffee, read undisturbed or just walk to the beach. A perfect place to write with a desktop or paint a painting. You have everything you need to relax. Chickens, pigs and cows often walk by the paved quite country like lane. You can see and watch exotic birds coming in from the near-by salt pond. But, if you want to be around people or be entertained the night life and pool side bars are near too.

my husband and I really enjoyed our 10 days at LimeLeaf. With a beautiful beach 5 mins walk in one direction, and the very fun and welcoming Tamarind Club 5 mins walk in the other direction, the cottage is perfectly located. Being away from town and commotion is what we were looking for and Lime Leaf provided us lots of rest and relaxation. we were there over Christmas and many days had the beach to ourselves. Breakfast on the patio with a few geckos was a great way to start the day! Owner and Property Mgr (on Island contact) were very friendly and easy to work with. Certainly hope to get the chance to come back again!
