Built in the year 2000 as a private tropical retreat by the owners of a famed Resort and Spa, Sea View Play is the gem of St. Croix Rainbow Coast. The Beach house has the most amazing sunrises and sunsets over the ocean plus fabulous rainbows.
This five bedroom, five bath villa plus cottage boasts three complete kitchens, two master bedrooms and three living rooms - all situated within a walled compound. All rooms face the Caribbean. A separate and private cottage with a master bedroom, living room, bath and full kitchen complete the beautifully landscaped grounds.
Unique among all properties on the island, the beach house includes St. Croix’s only natural coral pool. Every seventh wave delivers fresh seawater to the pool - as well as the occasional tropical fish. At times, snorkelers have counted as many as twenty different species living among the coral rocks.
Around the perimeter of the beach house is a balcony accessible from every room. Whether a venue for outdoor dining or simply a place to gather at dusk to watch the sun sink spectacularly into the sea beyond Hamm’s Bluff, the balcony is the perfect spot for “ limein’ ”, the Crucian word for not doing much of anything at all.
Situated on the northernmost spot on Cane Bay, Sea View Play enjoys a panoramic view of St. Thomas, St. John, and the British Virgin Islands. On a clear day, off to the northwest, a rare glimpse of Vieques and Puerto Rico may be just off the Beach house.
Not five hundred feet from the balcony, lies one of the Caribbean’s unique wonders: Cane Bay Wall, the famed destination of divers from all over the world. Geologists tell us that, unlike other nearby islands, St. Croix is not the product of volcanic action. The island, in fact, broke off from the South American plate millions of years ago and settled in the spot it now occupies. The result is that less than a quarter of a mile from shore, the sea plunges to a depth of a thousand feet or more. The Wall offers novice and professional scuba divers one of the world’s most thrilling experiences.
St. Croix is the queen of the U.S. Virgin Islands: far less congested and mercenary than St. Thomas, far less austere than St. John, St. Croix boasts the perfect combination of rural beauty and, with its twin city centers of Christiansted and Fredericksted, municipal bustle. St. Croix is often singled out as having the world’s most ideal climate – an average mean temperature of between 78 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Even in the summertime, the temperature remains in the eighties.
Sea View Play is offered on a weekly vacation basis. It can accommodate up to twelve adults – and a gaggle of children on pull-out couches and sleeping bags.
The Great Room is the pride of the house: high vaulted ceilings in the old plantation tradition cover the huge common space. The Great Room is fully equipped with broadband access. The bookcases are fully stocked with volumes which run the gamut from serious biography to the latest schlock crime novels. The room is also stocked with a large selection of jigsaw puzzles and family games. Expanded cable television service is built in as well as a DVD player and iPod Dock.
Activities easily available within a mile or so of Sea View Play Beach house include:
• the Cane Bay Dive Shop, offering complete equipment rental as well as supervised transportation to The Wall.
• Kayak Rental at the nearby Salt River takes you around the anchorage of Columbus’s visit to St. Croix.
• Horseback Riding along the Cane Bay beach is readily available.
• The Carambola Beach Resort, a four-star facility open to Sea View Play Beach house guests and offering long sandy beaches and notable Pina Coladas.
• Carambola Golf Club boasts a Robert Trent Jones 18 hole championship course, open to the public.
